Tillich pointed out that these three forms of anxiety are not caused by an abnormal state of mind. Rather, they simply arise from human existence. All three are present at any given time, but one tends to dominate. For many, the dominant anxiety is meaninglessness. Put simply: Does my life have a purpose? Dr. Jones is wrestling with this subject in four sermons. A written copy of each sermon may be downloaded from the church website or picked up from the literature tables a few days after it is preached. WORSHIP NOTES The flowers in the Sanctuary today are given to the glory of God and in memory of Tom Daughtry, Jose Varela, Chad Miller, and Mary Colbourn whose lives continue to inspire and challenge us to lavish God's grace on our broken world. Sanctuary Flowers - Consider giving the flowers for Sunday worship to remember or honor loved ones or to celebrate an event, while expressing praise and thanksgiving to God. Please contact Linda Watson during business hours at 302-571-6719 or lwatson@ycst.com. An available date is June 30. Join us each Sunday after TIME WITH OUR CHILDREN for Sunday School for the Young ages 2-2nd grade in Preschool Suite D. Children leaving during the service need to have a completed yellow security label on their back. This policy is for your child s protection. Thank you for your help. We have seen the devastation from the Oklahoma tornados, heard the stories and our hearts break. What can we do? Keep the communities in your prayers and make a contribution to help with the recovery. Westminster is collecting financial donations for PC(USA) disaster assistance to support communities in Oklahoma that are recovering from the devastation from the tornados. Please write "Disaster Assistance" on the memo line of your check and mail to the church at 1502 W. 13th Street, Wilmington, DE 19810 or place your check in the offering plate on Sunday. CONGREGATIONAL CARE AND PRAYER Please remember in your prayers: Those recently hospitalized: Don Furry, Jerald Lee, Kathryn van Amerongen. Afghanistan often seems far away, and we may neglect to realize that Americans, as well as Afghans and members of coalition forces, continue to die. As Christians, we are called to pray for the spreading of peace and justice and an end to violence. If someone in your family is serving in the military, please let us know, so that we may include that person on our prayer list. Contact Colleen Falasco: 302-654-5214 ext. 131, or cfalasco@wpc.org. ORDER OF WORSHIP PREPARATION FOR WORSHIP As swimmers dare to lie face to the sky and water bears them, as hawks rest upon air and air sustains them, so would I learn to attain freefall, and float into Creator Spirit's deep embrace, knowing no effort earns that all-surrounding grace. Denise Levertov, The Avowal *WELCOME AND ANNOUNCEMENTS PASSING OF THE PEACE CALL TO WORSHIP Lift your hearts! Lift your eyes! Lift your voices! The living, moving Spirit of God calls us together. What will happen to us if we open our lives to God s Spirit? We will be alert for the surprises of God. *HYMN NO. 482 Praise Ye the Lord, the Almighty LOBE DEN HERREN OPENING PRAYER As the light of dawn awakens earth s creatures and stirs into song the birds of the morning so may we be brought to life this day. Rising to see the light, to hear the wind, to smell the fragrance of what grows from the ground, to taste its fruit and touch its textures so may our inner senses be awakened to you, so may all our senses be awakened to you, O God. In your holy name, we pray. Amen. J. OFFERING Remember the words of the Lord Jesus, for he himself said, It is more blessed to give than to receive. (Acts 20:35) CELEBRATION OF THE LORD S SUPPER INVITATION TO THE TABLE According to the standards of our culture, this is not an elaborate feast. It is not how the world teaches us to eat, drink and be merry. Yet this meal is the ultimate celebration because at this table we receive food for our souls. Let us feast on the food of heaven that unites us with God and one another. THE GREAT PRAYER OF THANKSGIVING The Lord be with you. And also with you. Lift up your hearts. We lift them to the Lord. Eternal God... LORD S PRAYER (page 16 in The Presbyterian Hymnal, using debts and debtors ) WORDS OF INSTITUTION COMMUNION OF THE PEOPLE For those who have wheat allergies, we provide gluten-free rice crackers with the communion bread. PRAYER FOLLOWING COMMUNION God of grace and mercy, you renew us at your table with the bread of life. May this food strengthen us in love and may it help us serve you through our service to others. We ask this in the name of Christ. Amen. *HYMN NO. 264 When in Our Music God Is Glorified ENGELBERG *BENEDICTION If you are visiting with us and wish to learn more about our church, we invite you to meet today s ambassador, Robin Rosser, following the service. Our ambassadors enjoy sharing information about our many programs for children, youth and adults. 5
