Lumen Christi CATHOLIC COMMUNITY 2055 Bohland Avenue Saint Paul, MN 55116 Phone 651-698-5581 www.lumenchristicc.org We are called to be the Light of Christ in the world. Mission Statement July 31, 2016 Eighteenth Sunday in Ordinary Time, Year C Teach us to number our days aright, that we may gain wisdom of heart. Psalm 90:12 July / August Discipleship Theme: Discipleship of Creation A Prayer for Our Earth All-powerful God, you are present in the whole universe and in the smallest of your creatures. You embrace with your tenderness all that exists. Pour out upon us the power of your love, that we may protect life and beauty. Fill us with peace, that we may live as brothers and sisters, harming no one. O God of the poor, Help us to rescue the abandoned and forgotten of this earth, so precious in your eyes. Bring healing to our lives, that we may protect the world and not prey on it, that we may sow beauty, not pollution and destruction. Touch the hearts of those who look only for gain at the expense of the poor and the earth. Teach us to discover the worth of each thing, to be filled with awe and contemplation, to recognize that we are profoundly united with every creature as we journey towards your infinite light. We thank you for being with us each day. Encourage us, we pray, in our struggle for justice, love and peace. A Quote from Pope Francis: Africa Offers a Natural Richness Africa offers the world a beauty and natural richness which inspire praise of the Creator. This patrimony of Africa and of all mankind is constantly exposed to the risk of destruction caused by human selfishness of every type and by the abuse of situations of poverty and exclusion. In the context of economic relationships between States and between peoples, we cannot be silent about forms of illegal trafficking which arise in situations of poverty and in turn lead to greater poverty and exclusion. Illegal trade in diamonds and precious stones, rare metals or those of great strategic value, wood, biological material and animal products, such as ivory trafficking and the relative killing of elephants, fuels political instability, and fuels organized crime and terrorism. This situation too is a cry rising up from humanity and the earth itself, one which needs to be heard by the international community. -- Address to United Nations Office at Nairobi, Kenya, Nov. 27, 2015

The Parish Leadership Structure hopes for broad community participation, strong cross-ministry communication and resource sharing, and a long term view for guiding the parish in its mission. Our mission statement is We are Called to be the Light of Christ in the World. Could parish leadership be the place your gifts will bear the most fruit? You are encouraged to take the summer to prayerfully discern this. Information is available on the website: lumenchristicc.org/parish community/parish leadership. Talk to any of the members listed on the parish leadership page for more information. Watch the bulletin later this summer for more information on the Discernment Night process.

All ages welcome! Yummy treats! Good company! FREE! Presented by the Adult Faith Formation Committee.
