Amen We welcome Marcus and Grace who are being baptised here today and their parents, godparents, family and friends. Parents and carers please make sure children are supervised in church, especially around potential hazards such as candles in the lady chapel. Gluten Free communion wafers are available from the Altar in the Lady Chapel.

Processional Hymn 1. Our Father God in heaven On whom our world depends, To you let praise be given For families and friends; For parents, sisters, brothers, A home where love belongs, But on this day for mothers We bring our thankful songs. 2. What wealth of God s bestowing For all the world to share! What strength of heart outgoing To children everywhere! Our deepest joys and sorrows A mother s path must trace, And earth s unknown tomorrows Are held in her embrace. 3. How well we know the story That tells of Jesus birth, The Lord of heaven s glory become a child of earth; A helpless infant sleeping, yet King of realms above, who finds in Mary s keeping the warmth of human love. 4. Our Father God in heaven, To you we lift our prayer, That every child be given Such tenderness and care, Where life is all for others, Where love your love displays: For God s good gift of mothers Let earth unite in praise! GIFT AID YOUR DONATIONS: if you are a UK taxpayer why not donate using a yellow Gift Aid envelope so we can reclaim 25p for every 1 you give. Thank you. 2

A reading from the first book of Samuel (1.20 - end) In due time Hannah conceived and bore a son. She named him Samuel, for she said, I have asked him of the Lord. The man Elkanah and all his household went up to offer to the Lord the yearly sacrifice, and to pay his vow. But Hannah did not go up, for she said to her husband, As soon as the child is weaned, I will bring him, that he may appear in the presence of the Lord, and remain there for ever; I will offer him as a nazirite for all time. Her husband Elkanah said to her, Do what seems best to you, wait until you have weaned him; only may the Lord establish his word. So the woman remained and nursed her son, until she weaned him. When she had weaned him, she took him up with her, along with a three-year-old bull, an ephah of flour, and a skin of wine. She brought him to the house of the Lord at Shiloh; and the child was young. Then they slaughtered the bull, and they brought the child to Eli. And she said, Oh, my lord! As you live, my lord, I am the woman who was standing here in your presence, praying to the Lord. For this child I prayed; and the Lord has granted me the petition that I made to him. Therefore I have lent him to the Lord; as long as he lives, he is given to the Lord. She left him there for the Lord. This is the Word of the Lord. 8am only - Responsorial Psalm 127 R\: It is the Lord who builds the house. Hear the Gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ according to John (19.25b-27) Meanwhile, standing near the cross of Jesus were his mother, and his mother s sister, Mary the wife of Clopas, and Mary Magdalene. 26When Jesus saw his mother and the disciple whom he loved standing beside her, he said to his mother, Woman, here is your son. 27Then he said to the disciple, Here is your mother. And from that hour the disciple took her into his own home. This is the Gospel of the Lord. 3

The Angelus We turn to the Lady Chapel and sing together the words in bold. The angel of the Lord brought tidings to Mary: And she conceived by the Holy Ghost. Hail Mary, full of grace, the Lord is with thee; blessed art thou among women, and blessed is the fruit of thy womb Jesus. Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us sinners, now and at the hour of our death. Amen. Behold the handmaid of the Lord: Be it unto me according to thy word. Hail Mary, full of grace... And the Word was made flesh: And dwelt among us. Hail Mary, full of grace... Pray for us, holy Mother of God: That we may be made worthy of the promises of Christ. Pour forth, we beseech thee, O Lord, thy grace into our hearts; that as we have known the incarnation of thy Son Jesus Christ by the message of an angel, so by his cross and passion we may be brought to the glory of his resurrection. Through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen. 4

The Electoral Roll provides an accurate record of all those who worship here, enabling those on the list to vote at the forthcoming Annual Parochial Church Meeting and to hold office. If, therefore, you are not on the current Electoral Roll and are baptised and aged 16 years or over, have recently moved into the parish or joined the church, please complete one of the application forms that can be found at the back of the church. If your sixteenth birthday falls after the revision period but before or on the day of the Annual Parochial Church Meeting, Sunday, 22 April, you may complete an enrolment form and shall be enrolled from the date of your birthday. Once completed please hand your form to a member of Clergy, one of the Churchwardens or Gareth Mills, the Church Electoral Roll Officer. For those whose names already appear on the Roll, please note that you do not have to re-apply until 2019 when a new Roll will be prepared. WEEKLY GIVING ENVELOPES If you give by the envelope scheme there are new sets of envelopes for collection at the back of the church. If you would like to join the envelope scheme or have any questions about planned giving, please speak to Martin Howell our Stewardship Secretary. 5

EASTER FLOWERS If you would like to make a donation towards the cost of extra flowers in church on Maundy Thursday and Easter Sunday, please use one of the yellow envelopes pre-marked Easter Flowers available at the back of the church. If you are a UK taxpayer please sign the envelope in order to Gift Aid your donation. You may also like to use a Thanksgiving Card in dedication of a person or an event. Please put your donation and card in the envelope and place in the collection bag. Thanksgiving Cards will be offered at the altar at the Easter Day Mass. Thank you. COFFEE MORNING Do come along on Wednesdays from 10 to 11.30am for a tea or coffee, cake and a friendly chat. If you would be willing to help out and be included on the rota to host the coffee morning, please contact Sue O'Neill (sue.oneill@virgin.net). Any suggestions for speakers or activities you'd like to see would also be very welcome. FABRIC FOR BUNTING Do you have any spare fabric that we could use to make bunting to decorate the church at our special events? If yes, please speak to Sue O Neill or drop it into the Parish Office. MUSIC BY THE GREEN - SUNDAY 13 MAY We need volunteers to join in with this event so please offer your help to the Music by the Green team if you haven't already. It was good fun last year! Help is needed giving out flyers, selling drinks, children's activities etc and of course setting up and clearing away. The more the merrier as we will be making our café-style space in church again and need lots of help moving chairs and tables around. An easy way to support Music by the Green and raise funds for the church is to have an Estate Agent's board outside your home to advertise the event. To volunteer and/ or have an advertising board outside your house please see one of the Music by the Green team at the back of church or email sue.oneill@virgin.net ST JOHN S PARISH OFFICE & GOOSE GREEN CENTRE Usual office hours are 10am - 2pm on Monday, Wednesday and Thursday. A piece full of drama and powerful emotion, it remains one of the towering achievements of Bach s work.
