Chapter President s Message At our November meeting we recognized the chaplains, associate chaplains and spiritual directors of the councils, assemblies, chapter and board of district deputies. I want to thank George Raplee, PGK, FDD, PFN, PNCC for coordinating this event. Due to an illness, George was not able to attend, but the evening was a huge success. I would like to thank Grand Knight, Charles DiPrima, and the members of Hartigan Council in Bethpage for hosting the meeting. Our annual Memorial Mass was held on November 23 rd at St. Raymond s Church in East Rockaway. Bishop Walsh was the principle celebrant, assisted by our chaplain, Fr. Innocent, and Deacon Thomas Connolly, western Nassau s general agent. The installation of Chapter Officers followed. I would like to thank Frank Stallone PGK, PFN for chairing the Mass, his assistant Steve Higgins PGK, DD, host GK Ed Corrado. The Nassau Chapter Fraternal Assistance raffle tickets should have arrived in the mail before Thanksgiving. We are asking $10.00 per three tickets that appear at the bottom of the letter. Please be as generous as you can. The proceeds of this raffle fund our Fraternal Assistance program which provides assistance to brother knights, sister Columbiettes and their families when in need. Due to the difficult financial times many in our area are experiencing, your support is needed. Please think of your brothers and sisters in Columbianism this Christmas season. Prior to our December 19 th Chapter meeting, the choir from Sacred Heart Academy will present a program of Christmas carols. The young ladies will perform between 8:00 and 8:30 so plan to arrive early. This is the same group that performed for us last year. I received many compliments about the performance. Here s your chance to get the Christmas season off to a joyous start. Mike Murtha has resigned his position of Ball Journal Chairman. We are in critical need of brothers to assist us in soliciting advertisers and boosters and compiling the book for the printer. The revenue from the journal funds our scholarship program and makes up any shortfall in the revenue from the Ball. Please contact me if you can contribute some time to this most important fund raiser for the Chapter. Chapter Calendar Friday, December 19th Chapter meeting, Fr. Why not use the Nassau Chapter to get you more business? We d like to start a directory of businesses by Brother Knights, and we ll put them both here in the Chapter News and on the Chapter s website, www.nassauchapterkofc.org. Feel free to bring your business cards to our next meeting, or send one to us. (continued from left column) I want to thank Grand Knight, Ken Lyons, and the members of Corpus Christi Council for volunteering to host our January 16 th meeting. This is a change from what was listed in the directory (orange book). Our Chapter meeting on December 19th will be hosted by Fr. Joseph O Connell Council in Oceanside. May all of you and your families have a happy and blessed Christmas season. Vivat Jesus, Jim Bellotti PGK, FDD

In support of our retired priests: can you help? Worthy Chapter President, Worthy District Deputies, Worthy Grand Knights, Fellow Officers, Brother Knights, A Committee has been formed regarding the retired Priests of Rockville Centre who need our help. Fourteen of our Priests are in the process of relocating from St. Pius X Residence in Uniondale (our former minor seminary) to the Dominican Assisted Living Residence in Amityville by Thanksgiving. Msgr. Tom Mulvanerty is in charge of the care of the retired Priests. Msgr. Tom is looking for volunteers to help drive the Priests to their medical appointments after the move to Amityville. As Msgr. Tom explains it, their current medical care is at Mercy Hospital in Rockville Centre at least for the next few months until such time as Msgr. Tom can relocate their medical care to Good Samaritan Hospital in Islip. Initially, he needs our help driving the Priests between Amityville and Mercy Hospital and then more permanently between Amityville and Islip. WE NEED YOUR HELP IN SPREADING THE WORD THAT WE NEED RELIABLE DRIVERS TO VOLUNTEER AND/ OR ADOPT A PRIEST. The Priests are: FR. FRANK CASEY FR. SERAFINO CORALI FR. WILLIAM DAILEY FR. JAMES DOLAN FR. CHARLES GARTNER FR. FRANK HOURIHANE FR. JOHN MCCABE FR. FRANK NUSS FR. DENIS SHERIDAN FR. EDWARD SULLIVAN FR. JOHN WILUTIS MSGR. THAD ROONEY MSGR. JOHN SKELLY MSGR. ANTHONY SAVASTANO VOLUNTEERS NAME TEL # EMAIL COUNCIL YOU CAN RETURN THIS BY FAX OR MAIL TO: Carey Reynolds 3 Harvard Dr. Woodbury, NY 11797 (FAX) 516 663-4101 in care of Wachovia Securities or email me at reynjcr@aol.com Planning ahead If the weather s bad at 7 pm on a Chapter meeting night, the meeting s cancelled!

Nassau Chapter Bulletin Contest is underway It s our latest way to reward our councils for all the good works they do. You know what Supreme says, brag a little, brag a lot, and now your council just might get an award for it! And now we have guidelines: 1) Newsletters must be written, edited, and published by council members. 2) Interested councils must submit a minimum of three between the Summer of 2008 and May 1st, 2009. That s our deadline. If you haven t already done so, add us to your council s mailing list! 3) Please list on each issue, the Council s name and number, the Editor s name, and the District number (this is what New York State uses in their bulletin contests. They judge it by districts) 4) All entries must be in no later than May 1st, 2009. We ll start judging them in April and May, and award the winners at the June Chapter meeting. 5) Send them in as printed. It s much easier to judge. 6) There will be plaques for First, Second, and Third Place. We ll also give certificates to every council which participates. 7) As recommended by the committee, we ll grade newsletters on a 100 point system: Editing 20 points Format 10 points State News 10 points Supreme News 5 points Insurance News 5 points Membership (this may include drives, member profiles, members name in local news, prayer requests, etc) 15 points Chapter/Conference news 5 points Council News and Committee Reports 15 points Fourth Degree 10 points Fr. McGivney 5 points Council bulletins (and websites) are invaluable in getting the word out about your councils, especially to members who can t make meetings, but want to know what s going on. What better way to keep members interest in their council? And in addition to our Chapter, the State and Supreme Councils have many programs that can put your council over the top in their member s eyes. And it goes without saying that Father McGivney founded the Knights of Columbus, and now it s our turn to say thanks by helping publicize his canonization efforts. And as bulletin editor for my own council and assembly, I can tell you first hand that every member reads every word, and members love to see their brother s names in print. Of course not every issue may feature something about the 4th degree, your chapter, or KofC insurance. That s why we ask for a minimum of three issues per council. This should ensure the variety of news that your council bulletin presents. Most of these guidelines are already in place for the State Council Bulletin contests, so don t forget to submit to them as well. You may send issues to me, Mike Dragonetti 496 Greengrove Avenue, Uniondale NY, 11553-2131 towncrier@mindspring.com In addition to thanking you in advance for taking part, I d also like to thank my Committee members: Ed Willie, PGK, DD 12th District George Raplee, PGK, PFN, FDD, PNCC, PCC, Lecturer to the Chapter President Paul Doyle, PGK, PFN, FDD Larry Lombardo, PGK, Warden to the Nassau Board of District Deputies Bill Mitchell, GK

In solidarity with our priests-the November Nassau Chapter meeting at Hartigan Council. Thanks to PGK PFN FDD PNCC PCC George Raplee for a great job in putting it all together. And thanks, as always, to Paul Doyle PGK, FDD, PFN for the photos.

Chapter Publicity We d like to get out the word about all the good works the Chapter has done, and will do in the year to come, so if you re a Committee Chair, please send me news on what you re committee s doing. We also invite all of Nassau s councils to add us to their mailing list. If your council has a major event, send it along to us!
