April 2017 STAFF Rev Franklin Ruff, Lead Pastor Rev Jennifer Schneider Administrative Pastor 913-488-1313. flyfree1@me.com Donna Rains Caring Ministry 913-449-6601 CaringMinistry@aol.com Church Office 913-897-2261 secretary@fbcstilwell.org Scan this with your smart phone OUR PURPOSE Know, Grow, and G0 A Model for Christian Discipleship As a disciple of Jesus, I will seek daily to personally know Jesus as Savior and Lord of my life, To intentionally grow in a relationship of love with God and with others, To willingly go in service for Jesus, thus exhibiting God s love in all aspects of my life. The last month has been a very busy month. Praise God for all of his blessings! Pastor Ruff and his family have arrived and even though all the boxes are not unpacked, Pastor is settled in his office, the boys are in school, and ministry is happening. Of course, there have been some unforeseen glitches (internet and phone issues,) and there are still lots of things to learn and do. Yet, God is good and with lots of support and assistance, things are starting to calm down. Pastor Ruff and I have talked a lot. He has asked questions and I have answered those I can. We have shared our thoughts, dreams, hopes, and concerns with one another. We have talked about giftedness and responsibilities. During the next few months things will be changing. We can t grow without change. C.S Lewis has a quote I love. It may be hard for an egg to turn into a bird: it would be a jolly sight harder for it to learn to fly while remaining an egg you cannot go on indefinitely being just an ordinary, decent egg. We must be hatched or go bad. God calls us to follow Christ and we can t do that sitting still. When I look at the calendar for April I see an even crazier month coming up! Praise God for all of his blessings! April 1st will be my official first day as Administrative Pastor. Even though I have been ministering with you all since August, I will now have more time to be present with you and I am very grateful! In April we will be celebrating Holy Week and Easter. We will be having a Maundy Thursday service at 7:00, April 13 th ; we are hosting the Stilwell Community Easter Egg Hunt Saturday, April 15 th at 10 am; and will have three services, breakfast and Sunday School on Easter Sunday. I hope you will invite friends and family to celebrate with us this Easter season. Blessings, First Bapst Church of Slwell

From the Kid s Ministry Kid s Ministry at First Baptist Church Thoughts and Ideas: It seems spring has finally arrived! The trees and flowers have started to bloom. With spring comes the Easter season. I think sometimes we get caught up in the commercialization of Easter. We focus on bunnies and candy rather than the real reason we celebrate. This month we will be having special worship services on Palm Sunday, Maundy Thursday, and Easter. Hope to see your family at all or any of these services. Upcoming activities and events for children: During Children s Church in April we will be talking about Holy week and Easter. We will be learning through art, games, science and story- telling. Keep your eye out for flyers going home with children letting parents know what they will be learning. This gives parents an opportunity to reinforce the lessons at home and share their thoughts and ideas about the learnings with their children. The community Easter Egg hunt will be Saturday, April 15th at 10:00 am at our church. We encourage you to bring neighbors and friends! * Our next Kid s Night will be Friday May 5th. More details coming soon. Peace,

From the Youth Ministry On Wednesday nights during Lent we have been talking about ways we can prepare for Easter. We have talked about what it means to give something up or take something up as a sacrifice. We have read passages from both the Old and New Testament about what it means to be in the wilderness and we have looked at passages in the Gospel of Luke and talked about what it means to be a disciple of Christ. I am amazed every week at how thoughtful, kind and committed our youth are to each other and to serving Christ! We will be having an IMPORTANT PARENT MEETING during youth group on Wednesday, March 29th. We will be talking about our trip to Quest this summer and about upcoming Fundraisers. Fundraisers for our summer trip to Quest at Green Lake Conference Center: - We are selling Price Chopper coupon books for $5.00 each. -The first Saturday in April we will be having a talent show with dessert. We will need people to donate dessert for the event. - The Handcraft fair the last Saturday in April. Youth will be selling baked goods, lunch and babysitting workers children. We will need donated baked goods, canned soda, and will need lots of helping hands that day. If you would like to help please let me know.
