And taking the twelve, he said to them, See, we are going up to Jerusalem, and everything that is written about the Son of Man by the prophets will be accomplished. For he will be delivered over to the Gentiles and will be mocked and shamefully treated and spit upon. And after flogging him, they will kill him, and on the third day he will rise. But they understood none of these things. This saying was hidden from them, and they did not grasp what was said. Luke 18:31-34
Jesus Last Week: The Triumphal Entry The Week That Changed the World Now when they drew near to Jerusalem, to Bethphage and Bethany, at the Mount of Olives, Jesus sent two of his disciples and said to them, Go into the village in front of you, and immediately as you enter it you will find a colt tied, on which no one has ever sat. Untie it and bring it. If anyone says to you, Why are you doing this? say, The Lord has need of it and will send it back here immediately. And they went away and found a colt tied at a door outside in the street, and they untied it. And some of those standing there said to them, What are you doing, untying the colt? And they told them what Jesus had said, and they let them go. And they brought the colt to Jesus and threw their cloaks on it, and he sat on it.
Jesus Last Week: The Triumphal Entry And many spread their cloaks on the road, and others spread leafy branches that they had cut from the fields. And those who went before and those who followed were shouting, Hosanna! Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord! Blessed is the coming kingdom of our father David! Hosanna in the highest! Mark 11: 1-10
Jesus Last Week: The Triumphal Entry Rejoice greatly, O daughter of Zion! Shout aloud, O daughter of Jerusalem! Behold, your king is coming to you; righteous and having salvation is he, humble and mounted on a donkey, on a colt, the foal of a donkey. Zechariah 9:9 Jesus immediately went to the temple and drove out the money changers He said to them, It is written, My house shall be called a house of prayer, but you make it a den of robbers. Matthew 21:13
Jesus Last Week Several other events are tied to the week: Cursed a fig tree power over creation Jesus authority challenged by Pharisees Shared several parables Answered questions about the resurrection Was asked whose son the Christ would be Seven woes to the scribes and Pharisees Wept over Jerusalem Foretold of the destruction of the temple Spoke of final judgment Judas bargained to betray Jesus

King Jesus: Jesus was hailed as the Messiah The next day the large crowd that had come to the feast heard that Jesus was coming to Jerusalem. So they took branches of palm trees and went out to meet him, crying out, Hosanna! Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord, even the King of Israel! John 12:12-13 Jesus was hailed as the king he is. But there were misconceptions about King Jesus. Many sought him for the wrong reasons - more evident in the last week. The crowd shouts Hallelujah, a few days later it s Crucify him!
King Jesus: Many came for the show Jesus answered them, Truly, truly, I say to you, you are seeking me, not because you saw signs, but because you ate your fill of the loaves. Do not work for the food that perishes, but for the food that endures to eternal life, which the Son of Man will give to you. For on him God the Father has set his seal. John 6:26-27 Many Jews Expected Jesus to deliver them from the Romans. Even Jesus chosen group didn t get it. Simon was a zealot. Judas had his own plans. James and John... Peter... Then Simon Peter, having a sword, drew it and struck the high priest s servant and cut off his right ear. (The servant s name was Malchus.) John 18:10
King Jesus: Jesus Came to Establish a Spiritual Kingdom True deliverance is in the Spiritual Realm. The Jews wanted out from under Rome so badly, they made Jesus out to be something he never intended to be. Israel had a history of expecting God s deliverance it had happened time and time again.
Jesus Made It Personal He had already told the Pharisee Nicodemus we must be born again a personal relationship brought about by our personal rebirth. For you did not receive the spirit of slavery to fall back into fear, but you have received the Spirit of adoption as sons, by whom we cry, Abba! Father! The Spirit himself bears witness with our spirit that we are children of God. Romans 8:15-16 See what kind of love the Father has given to us, that we should be called children of God; and so we are. The reason why the world does not know us is that it did not know him. 1 John 3:1
Jesus Made It Personal That relationship is already there and waiting for us we just have to accept it. Jesus told us how to get to the Father through a personal relationship with Him. Jesus said to him, I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me. John 14:6 Do you know Jesus personally?
Jesus Got Tough The final teachings of Jesus were not easy for most Jews to hear, especially the Pharisees and the chief priests. Most of the final week parables were tough, but reflective of what was getting ready to take place. He spoke of the temple being torn down not what Jews wanted to hear. Jesus was looking for a few good men (and women), those who would believe true disciples He is still seeking.
Jesus Did What Only He Could The week that changed the world saw Jesus do what only he was capable of. The sacrificial system of the Law required sacrifice blood must be shed. Foreshadowed by John the Baptist. The next day he saw Jesus coming toward him, and said, Behold, the Lamb of God, who takes away the sin of the world! John 1:29 Jesus was that spotless lamb for all mankind. Only Jesus as the Son of God had that kind of power. He took on sin once and for all.
Jesus Did What Only He Could Glorious Day. Jesus got up and walked out of the tomb. He has power over death and the grave. Death is swallowed up in victory. O death, where is your victory? O death, where is your sting? 1 Corinthians 15:55 We have the same promise in the resurrection through Christ, we are made alive!
