Communications Director Chuck White Well it is that time of year again when we say "Let us not forget". Not for the sake of the holidays although that is a great concern for most folks. It is for "The day that will live in infamy". Over Thanksgiving weekend, my wife and I spent five days in Honolulu/Waikiki, seeing a little of Waikiki's Rodeo Drive, visiting the USS Missouri and the USS Arizona Memorial. It was our 44th Anniversary and the timing seemed to be right to get away by ourselves from our grand-parenting duties. I hadn't seen Pearl Harbor for forty six years, for my wife it was her first time, my how things change. Fort DeRussey is a museum now, Waikiki is, well, how can I say this, 'alarming' could be a descriptor. You have to go to the beach to see the sun. Every hotel is huge. The Arizona Memorial is a moving experience, especially learning that of the 1500 plus sailors that were stationed on that ship and the 1100 plus thatperished on December 7th only 12 are known to be still alive and have the option to be interred in the Number 1 turret. What impacted me was in thinking about our own crew and shipmates. Many have passed away and are on "Eternal Patrol". We have shared experiences on board the "King of the Fleet", whether DLG 10 or DDG 41, my question and challenge to all of you reading this, are you in contact with at least two other shipmates on a regular basis? Are you contributing to the camaraderie of the Association? In some small way would you be missed? I would hope the answer to these questions would be a resounding YES! We have served our country and continue to serve each other in small ways. May the hopes of this Holiday Season be with you and your families. God Bless America 3
