Clearly this is a celebration which brings our focus on True Presence of Christ in the Eucharist, which is at the absolute center of our liturgy and at the core of our Catholic Faith. According to thecatechism of the Catholic Church(#1324), The Eucharist is the source and summit of the Christian life. The other sacraments, and indeed all ecclesiastical ministries and works of the apostolate, are bound up with the Eucharist and are oriented toward it. For in the blessed Eucharist is contained the whole spiritual good of the Church, namely Christ himself. The Eucharist should be the high point of our week, or even of our day. The author J.R.R. Tolkien (author ofthe HobbitandThe Lord of the Rings), who was a devout Catholic, once stated, The only cure for sagging or fainting faith is Communion. Though always Itself, perfect and complete and inviolate, the Blessed Sacrament does not operate completely and once for all in any of us. Like the act of Faith it must be continuous and grow by exercise. Frequency is of the highest effect. Seven times a week is more nourishing than seven times at intervals. SACRAMENT INFORMATION Anointing of the Sick By appointment. The Eucharist can also be brought to homebound parishioners by an Extraordinary Minister of Holy Communion. This past Pentecost weekend, we sang a sequence: Veni Sancte Spiritus (Come O Holy Spirit Come) before the Gospel Acclamation, a.k.a the Alleluia. On Easter Sunday there was a sequence chanted before the Alleluia, Victimae paschali (Christians to the Paschal Victim / Offer your thankful praises). There will be another opportunity to hear a sequence on Corpus Christi. A shorter form of the sequence begins on page 176 of the Breaking Bread book,: Lo! The angel s food is given In the Tridentine missal, sequences were considered to be meditative hymns to which the assembly listened while seated, rather than as a preparation for the Gospel to be sung by all while standing. Historically, the sequence had always followed the Alleluia, [a.k.a. Gospel Acclamation]. This is even suggested by the name "sequence" which derives from the Latin word sequere, meaning, "to follow." In this position, the sequence served as an introduction to the Gospel. After Vatican II, the sequence was placed before the Alleluia: the very part of Mass from which the sequence irst drew its life. Vatican II further reduced the number of sequences in the missal. Presently, in the Ordinary Form, sequences are only appointed for two Feasts (Easter and Pentecost) and recommended for one (Corpus Christi). It has its challenges to liturgy planners to ensure that the sequence is a joyful expression of the feast in which all can participate. On Pentecost Sunday the whole assembly is invited to sing Come, O Holy Spirit to a familiar tune: Ode to Joy. Unfortunately not all the texts of the sequences can it or be altered to a hymn tune.

Lord Jesus Christ, eternal High Priest, you offered yourself to the Father on the altar of the cross and through the outpouring of the Holy Spirit gave your priestly people a share in your redeeming sacriice. Hear our prayer for the sanctiication of our priests. Grant that all who are ordained to the ministerial priesthood may be ever more conformed to you, the Divine Master. May they preach the Gospel with pure heart and clear conscience. Let them be shepherds according to your own heart, single minded in service to you and to the Church, and shining examples of a holy, simple, and joyful life. Through the prayers of the Blessed Virgin Mary, your Mother and ours, draw all priests and the locks entrusted to their care to the fullness of eternal life where you live and reign with the Father and the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. Amen.
