THANK YOU MR. LEONARD GRAMAROSSA Today is a special day in the history of Divine Infant Jesus. It is a day we thank and honor a great principal: Mr. Leonard Gramarossa. For 19 years he has served as principal of our fine school. He will be retiring at the end of the academic year. Our school families have been invited to 11:30 Mass this Sunday as we thank God for a wonderful principal. After Mass there will be luncheon in his honor in Langan Hall. If you get a chance, say hello to Mr. G as he is affectionately known, or drop him a Thank You note. In my 49 years as a priest I have worked with nine principals in as many schools. He is right up there at the top. I know him to be a true gentleman. He has a paternal affection for our children and takes a personal interest in them. He is also a true professional in every sense of that term. His faculty respect him. Our parents are very appreciative of all he has done. I have enjoyed our school board meetings. I especially have appreciated his efforts to address the prospect of lower enrollment and increased deficit in our budget. Working in collaboration with neighboring St. Louise de Marillac he has sought a way to ensure and preserve our Catholic school education. There were many meetings to explore what could be done. More recently we have worked hard through Renew My Church to assure we continue to offer a quality Catholic School education to all who desire this. Soon you will hear how we are moving forward with this effort. May God bless Mr. G in his retirement years. He has been so good to us. May God be good to him! May he have good health and an abundance of peace! Catholic Charities Next weekend is Mother s Day when we have the annual Catholic Charities collection. For a number of years, I have served on the Parish Outreach Committee of Catholic Charities. This year they celebrate their 100 th anniversary of serving the poor in our archdiocese. I have seen firsthand how much good they do. This is one second collection I can say deserves your willingness to make a sacrificial donation to help the poor. Jesus taught us that Whatsoever you do to the least on my people, you do to me. Let us honor Jesus by giving to his poor. We will have that collection next weekend. Please be extraordinarily generous. Thank you in the name of Jesus and his poor! Peace and love always, Father Mike Ahlstrom

ARCHDIOCESE OF CHICAGO OFFICE OF THE ARCHBISHOP Spring, 2018 Dear Sisters and Brothers in Christ, Mother s Day is a day we honor and remember the special women in our lives who have nurtured, loved and shaped us into the people we are today. It is through their unconditional love that we begin to understand the depth of Christ s love for us, and his command to share that love with one another. On Mother s Day, each of us will have an opportunity to share Christ s unconditional love with the poor and vulnerable through our gift to the Catholic Charities Mother s Day Collection. For Catholic Charities, charity is not just about providing material assistance, but acting with the same love and mercy that Jesus showed to restore people s dignity and give them the hope of a brighter future. Catholic Charities counts on our volunteer and financial support to offer comprehensive programs that get to the root cause of suffering, address multiple needs, and help people rebuild their lives for the better. Pope Francis has used a powerful image of the Church as field hospitals. During war, field hospitals are situated right on battlegrounds close to the wounded who need help. Similarly, as part of the Church in the Archdiocese of Chicago, Catholic Charities 150 service locations are very much like field hospitals, helping those who are suffering, and located in neighborhoods that have sadly become like real battlegrounds, plagued with violence and despair. Catholic Charities program site are safe havens in desperate areas and their staff and volunteers are truly ministers of mercy, providing help through a hot meal, a bag of food, a place to live, the care of a child or elderly relative, counseling, job training, job placement, or all of these things. Serving nearly one million people each year, Catholic Charities brings Christ s love and mercy to the people and the places that need it most. Please accept my sincere gratitude for your past support of the Catholic Charities Mother s Day Collection, and please consider being as generous as you can again this year. Contributions can be made during the second collection of Mother s Day, anytime at www.catholiccharities.net/donate, or mail your gift to Catholic Charities, 721 N. LaSalle St., Chicago, Il 60654. May God bless you and those you love this Mother s Day and always. With every good wish, I remain. Sincerely yours in Christ, Cardinal Blase J. Cupich Archbishop of Chicago

WEDDINGS Christopher Wallace & Carly Barry HELP! My daughter made her First Communion last Saturday. After the Communion Mass, she misplaced a clear, crystal rosary that was a family heirloom. The last place it was seen was near the Divine Infant statue outside of church. If anyone found it, please either contact me, Kathy at 708-562-8981 or drop it off at the rectory. Thank you. INTERFAITH CAREER NETWORK CHURCH CLEANING VOLUNTEERS NEEDED We are in need of volunteers to help clean the church (dry mop, dusting, etc.) on Friday mornings. It usually takes 1/2 hour to 45 minutes. You can just show up in church on Friday mornings at 8:30. THANKS TO BLOOD DONORS, VOLUNTEERS The Westchester Blood Program extends its thanks to the many members of the Divine Infant Church family who took part in the WBP's April 14 blood drive at the Community Center. Despite of a day that was chilly and rainy, 80 donors signed in and the WBP collected 78 units (pints) for Chicago area hospitals via LifeSource Blood Services. That's more than enough of the life-saving fluid to treat 200 patients. The WBP has garnered 172 units so far this year and 26,130 units since its founding in 1974. The next community blood drive will be held at Divine Providence School from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday, July 14. Get Ready to Interview Congrats! The letter from John echoes this command. Of course, we are to love those in our family, those we work with, those we like. But the scriptures make clear that we are also to love those we never notice, those we purposely avoid, and even those we are tempted to despise. In this Sunday's selection from the Acts of the Apostles Peter shows us how far God's love extends, and how far our love should extend in response. Peter realizes that God no longer "shows partiality" to the Jews, sharing divine love exclusively with them. Christ has revealed that God's love extends to all people, and so should ours.
