Meanwhile the queen had ordered that preparation of Roth should be made as early as possible so that King could leave for journey after having Prashaad. All preparations were made, as the preparation for Pravpin was going on the King entered into the palace with his fellow men. The Queen humbly requested the King to wait for few minutes and leave for journey after having Prashaad. The king got angry and lost his wits and entered into the Kitchen without opening the shoes and washing hands. He scattered all the Roths with his hands. The King left for journey, leaving the queen very upset and depressed. After few months the king was returning from the journey and a rumor spread in the kingdom that King along with his cargo had drowned 8

in the sea. This hue and cry in the Kingdom made the rivals conscious and they attacked the kingdom. The Queen and the Princess were left with no option but to leave the palace for their survival. They could not bear the abuses of the public and left the kingdom. They reached to a nearby village where a rich man of the village offered a job of husking paddy to the Queen and cleanness of stable to the Princess. There were no machines those days the husking was done in a traditional manner by putting the paddy in a home made carved stone Kanz and the same was hammered by a log of wood Muhul. The rich man used to offer the residue of the cleaned rice to them as wages and they made their both ends meat out of it. After some time they made a small thashed hut near the village and started living there. One Fine morning the queen told her daughter to take this earthen fire pot and get some fire from the neighbours for litting the chullaha. As she reached their, they stopped her and asked her to wait till the Puja/Prapuin is over and take Prashad with you for your mother. She waited there till Prapuin was over and took the fire pot along with Prashad Roth with her. When her mother saw a Tilak of Sandier, Narvan on wrist and Roth in Hand she recollected that it is Badrapada, it must be Pun Naveed. The Daughter asked about the Roth and mother narrated all the story of Veer Bhadrun Roth, How and when it is made. The Queen told her the procedure and main thrust is to be given to devotion Sharda and cleanliness of body and soul. The daughter left as usual to the stable to collect the horse dung. She being conscious about the ingredients of the Roth saw some corn and wheat grains in the dung. She collected all this in a basket Kranjul and went to a nearby river, washed it and separated all the corn and wheat grains from the dung. She grinded them with the help of stones lying nearby. After taking bath she mixed water to it and shaped it as a bread Dhrumb. She put it in the fire (Oven) for some time and took the Roth out and give that to her mother. Mother wondered to see that the Roth was made of Gold. The mother enquired about it, and the daughter narrated all the story. They decided to prepare Roth on the same day of Vinayak Charum (Sunday). Mother with clean body mind and soul broke one piece out of the Golden Roth and asked her daughter to buy all the ingredients required for making this Roth. The preparations were complete and the Roths were decorated on Chinar leaves (Also known as PUN(iUu)for Prapuin. 10 9 Meantime they heard some noise as King is alive King is alive and the king reached there healthy and wealthy. Both of them were very happy. The queen enquired about the well being of King, the King told when the ship started drowning in the sea I felt unconscious but as soon as I regained my consciousness I found myself on the shore with all the goods safe and sound except the people who were accompanying me. I waited for some time on the ship and sought help from the sailors of the other passing by ships. Then I reached to the Kingdom to enquire about you and the princess and some how came to know that you are living a miserable life along with the princess. The King after bowing in front of the Gadwa (dqehk) Symbol of Beeb Dharam Mouj apologized for his misconduct and started the Prapuin. The prashad was distributed among all the people and strangers were also offered the Naveed. Then King Queen and The Princess left for the Kingdom, where people were anxiously waiting for them to Rule the Kingdom. May God overcome our miseries and sorrows in the same manner as that of King and his family. (English Translation rendered by: Sh. That is why Shree Ganesh is worshipped as child of mother Parvati and he eats the most relished food i.e. Ladoo, Sweet Ladoos (Lot of sweetness) Lord Ganpati says before the creation of this world. I filled everything with Somya (lkse;k) purity (only the seed has the total purity). I protect all energies & where ever any one seeking the blessings need to worship me first. In your bodies I am innocence wisdom and sponta- Somya also means compatability 28

neity when centres are awakened, you regain your absolute mental powers & innocence. Only pure mind leads to wisdom and wisdom( Budhi) leads to realization (Siddhi) attainments) So, Shree Ganesh Ji is lord of Budhi & Siddi. The snake worn as an ornament by lord indicates the activation of dormant energy which like a serpent (dq.myuh) in an ordinary human being remains inactive. The Ganesh Puja is as old There are Ganesh Mandris in every village in Kashmir known as Ganesh Bal and the main Ganesh Temple in the Srinagar city known as Ganpatyaar temple. The Ganesh here is in Sidhi Vinayak Pose i.e. his trunk is in the right direction. It is said that is very difficult to please Sidhi Vinayak because if you are able to please him then sidhi will follow you everywhere. This type of Ganpati is being worshipped in the famous temple of Sidhi Vinayak (Mumbay) Maharastra. At the beginning of Rig Veda itself, the name is taken in a Mantra, Gananam tva ganapatim havamahe... You may know the interesting story as to how Panini, the originator of Sanskrit grammar, received knowledge from Lord Siva. He was supposed to be the dullest of the students in a group that was studying from a Guru in Taxila (Taksh Shila). The other boys were very intelligent. Panni was the most stupid, the least intelligent and made fun of all the students in the class. He was deeply hurt 29 31 as any other Puja & its mention is given in texts which follow the Krishna Yajur Veda order. Kashmiri Pandits too follow the Krishna Yajurved order of rituals. 30 that he was being cowed down by other students and that he could not understand anything that the teacher said. Almost in a desperate mood of disgust with everything he went to the forest and deeply contemplated on Lord Shiva. He prayed, O Lord! Bless me with knowledge. It is said that Lord Siva appeared before him, danced and revolved His Dakka or Damaru fourteen times, and the following sounds were made: 1. Aiun, 2. Rlrk, 3. Aowng, 4. Ai ouch,5. Ha ya va rat, 6. Lan, 7. Na ma nga na nam, 8. jha bhanj, 9. Gha dha dhash, 10. ja ba ga da das, 11. Kha pha chha tha tha cha ta tav, 12. Ka pay, 13. Sa sha sar, and 14. Hal. All this constitutes the very essence of Sanskrit grammar. These sounds, meaningless as they may appear to us, became the foundation of Sanskrit grammar literature. Mother Girja (Parvati) manifested Shree Vinayak by these 14 sounds. So, upto 14th of this month the Ganesh Puja is held. So, God can teach us without the usual medium. 32
