Today s The Day--You re Invited! Today at noon (after the 11:00 Mass ) we are all invited to come down to the parish hall for a great pot luck brunch and some equally outstanding conversation. Many of us felt is it fair to say- marginalized-after the elections were over. We are thinking that we need to start talking and listening to each other a bit more intentionally. So, please join us in the hall for what we hope will be a spirit filled (yes, pun intended) afternoon. Our thanks to the LGBTQS group for sponsoring this event. A Second Christmas Reminder or Two Many of you will be traveling over the Christmas holidays: The Caribbean or Europe (nah, I m not jealous much!!) If you read the article Easter Gifts to Parish you ll understand why we are asking you to think and pray ahead of time and remember St Francis de Sales with a special Christmas gift before you take off for your awesome trips! To make this easier for you, there are special envelopes in church that are specifically for YOUR CHRISTMAS GIFT to your parish. Of course you can always make this donation on Parish Pay as well. Please don t confuse this with the other envelopes that are to be used to make your donation for CHRISTMAS FLOWERS (those poinsettias didn t grow on trees you know oh wait, they did well, more like shrubs anyway, we digress!!) All these distinct collections are so important to the financial well being of the parish and we appreciate your constant generosity. OK, back to celebrating Advent. Lectio Divina We continue with our new hour of prayer on Thursday mornings at 10:00 am. Please feel free to join us if your schedule permits. We read together the scripture for the upcoming Sunday and share our thoughts and reflections with one another. It is truly becoming a treasured opportunity for prayer and community building. All are welcome to join us, come once or come often. We will do this again on Monday, December 19 from 4-8 pm. In addition, we are planning a Prayer Service at 6:30 that night to give those of us who can be here at that time, a chance to pray together before receiving the sacrament. Please join us if your schedule allows. Jesse Tree We hope you have taken a moment to learn a bit more about Jesus family tree this Advent. Today we add our last ornaments to the Jesse tree: Mary, Joseph and Jesus. We think you know who they are. Take a minute today to admire the artwork of our young parishioners. Happy Fourth Week of Advent. Follow St. Francis on Twitter & Instagram! St. Francis is now on Twitter and Instagram @SFDS_NYC (in addition to the Facebook page) - follow to keep up with everything going on at the Parish and see what's in Fr. Kelly, Jayne, and Mary's minds.

Gracias. Fr. Neil Connolly For those of you who have inquired, Fr Neil is doing well at the Archdiocesan retirement center for priests. His address is: John J. O Connor Residence, 5655 Arlington Avenue, Bronx, NY 10471. We re sure he d love to hear from you! Social Justice Ministry How does our Catholic faith inform the ways we act in the world? If that question resonates stay tuned for our upcoming inaugural Social Justice Ministry meeting in January. Email Mary to jump in with questions, comments, ideas at maryewalle@sfdsnyc.org. 20/30s Ministry We're planning out events for 2017 - have an idea? or want to see how you might connect with the Ministry or Parish community? Email Mary at maryewalle@sfdsnyc.org! Everyone is welcome at the Manger! When we think about the image of Jesus in the manger, traditionally we see the ox and donkey, the shepherds and kings, the drummer boy and Mary and Joseph. If you re a parent, a grandparent, or a beloved aunt, uncle or godparent what else does a baby need in his or her crib? We would like to make our Christmas crèche a bit more inclusive this year at our Christmas Eve Family Mass. We are encouraging your little ones to bring a stuffed animal or special toy to bring to Jesus at the manger. (nothing valuable please, and just for decorative purposes! We would want you to take it home with you that night, or the following week) We think it would be fun to see what treasured items we want to share with the baby Jesus. Every baby needs a teddy bear right? So, if you are coming to 5pm Christmas Eve Mass, feel free to bring something to leave at the crèche. And make sure to stop and take a look at the crèche before you leave church! SAINTS AND SPECIAL OBSERVANCES Sunday: Fourth Sunday of Advent Wednesday: St. Peter Canisius; Winter Solstice Friday: St. John of Kanty Saturday: The Vigil of Christmas Thinking About Your Easter Gift to the Parish Dear Friends, You thought the there was a misprint above didn t you? Please read on! It has been my absolute delight to be in ministry and service to the parish of St Francis de Sales these last two and a half years. Now as I type this I realize it sounds like I m about to say I m leaving.i m not going anywhere -- I just wanted to take a minute to share with you something I ve been thinking about as we get ready to celebrate Christmas. My experience of being part of the pastoral staff here has already taught me so much more than I could have imagined. With the universal church growing and changing the way it is under the guidance of Pope Francis I find myself challenged every day to be the best leader I can be. Being a pastoral leader means thinking about the awesome, powerful things like: liturgy and service and music and people s faith and relationship to God. It is also being aware of the really mundane stuff like why is there a puddle next to that radiator after we just had the plumber in? It also means being aware of parish finances Did you know that in a parish budget there are line items for Sunday Collections AND CHRISTMAS AND EASTER COLLECTIONS?? So, this year when we only have one mass for Christmas/Sunday we are, in truth, losing a collection.! In other years there would be a Sunday collection and a special Christmas collection that we could count on in our budget. Take a moment to think about your own finances how would you feel if you suddenly realized you would be short one pay check this month? How would your bills get paid? Scary, right? So, here s our point, we need two envelopes: one for Sunday, One Christmas. May we simply ask, when you make out your checks or fill your envelopes or, even better, make that Parish Pay contribution for Christmas that you prayerfully consider what your Sunday and Christmas gifts to your parish will be. We trust you will be as generous as you always are OUR PARISH is counting on your support this year in a very real way. Thank you. Pray For Our Sick and Departed Sisters and Brothers: Sick: Fr. Peter Smith, Daniel Lynch, Annalise McKnight, John Keck, Patricia Laney, Tom Chestaro, Katie Cummings, Deceased: Miguelina Medina, Maria Bruno, Vincent Fico, Vladimir Brezina (Please call the office to remove or add names to this list.)
