Irving & Minerva Sweet Memorial Lecture Rabbi Malcolm Stern will be our speaker for the First Annual Irving & Minerva Sweet Memorial Lecture to be held during our Sabbath evening service on Friday, November 30. Since retiring in 1980 as Director of Rabbinic Placement for Reform Judaism, Rabbi Stern has pursued his work in genealogy, history and Jewish music. He has also been on the faculty of the Hebrew Union College, where he has served most recently as Adjunct Professor of History. Rabbi Stern has been called "the father of Jewish genealogy in America." One of his books on Jewish genealogy served as the basis for Stephen Birmingham's best-selling The Grandees. Rabbi Stern has also traced the family trees of every Jewish family in North America by 1840, to the present. Rabbi Stern has published many articles on American Jewish History and is a popular lecture. We hope you will join us as we welcome Rabbi Stern to Temple Beth-EI, as our first speaker for this lectureship which has been established by the Sweet Family in memory of Irving and Minerva Sweet.
