Descendants of Thomas Weathersbee Generation No. 1 1. THOMAS 1 WEATHERSBEE died Bet. 17 August - October 1774 in Martin County, NC. He married JOICE. She died Aft. October 1774. Notes for THOMAS WEATHERSBEE: All of the following information is provided from "The Weathersbee Family of Halifax and Martin Counties, NC and Barnwell County, SC" compiled by Elizabeth Willis DeHuff between the years 1920-1965: Thomas originally lived in Edgecombe County. He will, dated 17 August, 1774, states "I Thomas Weathersbee of Halifax County...". The section of Edgecombe that he lived in became Halifax in 1758. This same section formed Martin County in 1774. Therefore, Thomas technically died in Martin County where his will was probated in October Court, 1774. ------------------------------------------------------- Will of Thomas Weathersbee, Sr. In the name of God Amen I Thomas Weathersbee Senr of the County of Halifax in the province of North Carolina being in good health and of perfect mind and sound memory thanks be to God but calling to mind the mortality of mankind and knowing it is appointed for all men once to die do make odain constitute and appoint this my last will and testament in manner and form following first I give and bequesth to my 3 grandchildren Mary Weathersbee, William Weathersbee, and Thomas Weathersbee children of my son Wyat Weathersbee deceased 30 shillings prov. money to be equally divided between them and their heirs or assigns after the death of my wife Joice Weathersbee to be paid by my executors two well beloved sons Weathersbee and Thomas Weathersbee all the remainder of my whole estate personal and real after our decease to them and their heirs and assigns forever. Lastly, I constitue nominate and appoint my son Thomas Weathersbee and Joice Weathersby my wife executors to this my last will and testament hereby revoking and disannuling all others heretofore by me made in witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and seal this 17th day of August 1771. Signed sealed published and declared by this Thomas Weathersbee to be his last will and testament in the presence of us: Jonathan Cain Henry Medford his Thomas x Weathersbee mark Martin County October Court 1774 then the within writing was proved by the oath of Jonathan Cain according to law to be the last will and testament of Thomas Weathersbee deceased and ordered to be recorded. T. Stuart, Clerk Recorded in will book 1, pages 447 and 448 ------------------------------------------------------------------------- deed records of Thomas Weathersbee: 23 July, 1769 - Thomas Weathersbee Sr. of Halifax County, NC, planter, for 60 pounds proclamation money gave bill of sales to Patience Turner of same place for one mulatto man named John. Witnesses: Jonathan Cain, Jesse Bryan, and Henry Medford. Book 11, page 44. 12 February, 1772 - from Thomas Weathersbee Sr. to Thomas Weathersbee Jr. for 100 pounds - 2 negroes: Sarah, aged 24 yrs, and Jesse, aged 2 yrs. Book 4, page 47. 1 24 September 2008 11:40 AM

27 July, 1774 - deed from Thomas Weathersbee Sr. for 5 shillings sterling, "for the affection which I do owe and bear to my two sons Thomas and Cade Weathersbee...all my negroes young and old, male and female to be divided between my two sons, reserving the use of the negroes to myself for and during my natural life." Book A, page 48 and 49. ----------------------------------------------------------------------- The author of the aforesaid book suggests that the direct line leading to Thomas Weathersbee is as follows: Bartholomew Weathersbee, married a daughter of Thomas Godby Thomas Weathersbee, married Bridgett Bartholomew Weathersbee Thomas Weathersbee, married Joice Thus, Thomas would have been the son of Bartholomew, grandson of Thomas, and great-grandson of Bartholomew who was born in 1586 and immigrated to Virginia. However, this lineage is arrived at through deduction and cannot be directly proven. It is a certainty that Thomas Weathersbee of Halifax/Martin Counties descends from the original immigrant Bartholomew. Children of THOMAS WEATHERSBEE and JOICE are: 2. i. CADE 2 WEATHERSBEE, b. 21 July 1723, NC; d. 23 July 1794, Bladen County, NC. ii. WYATT WEATHERSBEE, b. Bet. 1720-1730. iii. THOMAS WEATHERSBEE, b. Bet. 1720-1730. Generation No. 2 2. CADE 2 WEATHERSBEE (THOMAS 1 ) was born 21 July 1723 in NC, and died 23 July 1794 in Bladen County, NC. Notes for CADE WEATHERSBEE: From "The Weathersbee Family of Halifax and Martin Counties, NC and Barnwell County, SC" compiled by Elizabeth Willis DeHuff between the years 1920-1965: Cade Weathersbee was granted a large acreage of land in Bladen and Duplin Counties, North Carolina, from first grant in March, 1759 to the last in March, 1775. The bible of his son Isham is extant and in the possession of a descendant in Mississippi. It gives the birth of Cade Weathersbee as 21 July, 1723, died 23 July 1794 in Bladen County, NC. It also states that Cade's second son, Isom was born 12 March, 1780, died 11 November, 1846, married 7 September, 1797 Sarah Thomas. And that Absolom Weathersbee died 10 February, 1846 living in Fairfield County, SC. Cade Weathersbee's will was recorded in will book 1, page 592, Bladen County, NC dated 23 May, 1793 and proved at June Court 1793. In it, he names children: Martha Hollingsworth, Mary Sikes, Lucy McLean, Elizabeth Weathersbee, Asolum Weathersbee, Olive Weathersbee, Jane Weathersbee, Isom Weathersbee, Owen Weathersbee, and Shadrach Weathersbee. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- The name of Cade Weathersbee's wife remains unknown. ELIZABETH 4 MCLAIN (LUCY 3 WEATHERSBEE, CADE 2, THOMAS 1 ) was born 1788 in Bladen County, NC, and died 18 December 1856 in Turnbull Creek, Bladen County, NC. She married GEORGE CAIN, son of RACHEL. He was born 10 July 1787 in Bladen County, NC, and died 21 November 1880 in Turnbull Township, Bladen County, NC. Notes for ELIZABETH MCLAIN: The maiden name of Elizabeth is known from the death certificate of her son Robert Cain. She is also proven to be the daughter of Peter McLain from the following deed. 25 December, 1824 - George Cain and Elizabeth his wife to James McLain $129.50... being a distributive share of land drawn by Elizabeth McLain now Elizabeth Cain of the estate of Peter McLain, deceased, known by No. 2 North East of Little Turnbull Creek... patented by Cade Weathersby and 1/4 part of the grist mill... and one other piece being part of said No. 2 drawn by Elizabeth McLain now the wife of George Cain in the division of the lands of Peter McLain deceased the 19 October 1818 lying South of the Mill Bay... joining Margaret McLain's lot No. 1 part of 446 acre grant patented by James L. Purdie and Peter McLain and a tract of 19 acres being part of 191 acres of land of the estate of Samuel McLain, deceased drawn by Samuel McLain of the estae of Peter McLain deceased 19 October, 1818... only Lucy McLain's right of Dower excepted for her life time. Witness: Robert Melvin. August term 1829. Examination of Elizabeth's tombstone shows that her death date was December 18, 1856. Her age was 68 years. More About ELIZABETH MCLAIN: Notes for GEORGE CAIN: George's middle initial is known from the death certificate of his son Robert Cain. He was probably born in Bladen County. He was not born in 1798 as some records contend. Close examination of his actual tombstone shows his age as 93 years, 4 months, and 11 days at the time of death. The 3 on his tombstone was laid in backwards and for that reason many people think his age was 98. George appears to have been the son of Rachel Cain, based on census data. More About GEORGE CAIN: Cause of Death: dropsy Children of ELIZABETH MCLAIN and GEORGE CAIN are: i. CALVIN 5 CAIN, b. Bet. 1820-1825, Turnbull Creek, Bladen County, NC; d. August 1838. 4 24 September 2008 11:40 AM

Notes for CALVIN CAIN: Was Calvin Cain the son of George Cain? There is a Calvin Cain buried in the George Cain family cemetery. He stone only reads died August, 1838. Since there are no known elder Cains who carried the name Calvin and since Calvin is buried in a cemetery dedicated to the family of George Cain, the only reasonable assumption that I can make is that Calvin was the son of George Cain and that he died at a very young age. ii. BELINDA CAIN, b. 1821, Turnbull Creek, Bladen County, NC; d. 18 September 1885, Turnbull Township, Bladen County, NC. Notes for BELINDA CAIN: It appears from census records and from her tombstone that she remained single. More About BELINDA CAIN: iii. LORENZO DOW CAIN, b.
