The Albanac 8 Billie s Corner How goes your Lent thus far? Sometimes the Lenten season can seem to stretch endlessly into the future. Sometimes we can get derailed and lose our Lenten momentum. Occasionally we can lose sight of the coming of the high, holy feast day of Easter a time when we will joyfully celebrate the Resurrection of Jesus Christ. The church thought of that and included Laetare Sunday in the Lenten liturgical calendar as a midway point to Easter. Sunday, March 11 is Laetare Sunday. Laetare is Latin and means to rejoice. We will pause in the middle of the Lenten season to rejoice in anticipation of the approaching of Easter. On Ash Wednesday, we were invited to the observance of a holy Lent. The Book of Common Prayer offers a list of Lenten disciplines: self-examination and repentance; prayer, fasting, and self-denial; reading and meditating on God s holy Word. If your Ash Wednesday intentions seem to be unrealistic questioning your ability to maintain your Lenten disciplines you can rejoice on Laetare Sunday then live into the anticipation of the resurrection and splendor of Easter day. On Laetare Sunday, be intentional about rejoicing. Give yourself time to ponder on the amazing resurrection of Jesus Christ when he reversed the order of things when he took death and made it into life. Think about the times in your life that you have already experienced resurrection the times that you somehow regained a sense of peace after a devastating event in your life the times you forgave the unforgivable the times you have been forgiven the unforgivable. Think about the times when your spirit somehow miraculously rose out the ashes to discover a new way of being. We do not have to literally die to experience Jesus resurrection; Jesus resurrection is ours now. Remember his words. The Kingdom of God is within you. (Luke 17:21). Resurrection is within you NOW! Rejoice in the Lord always, again I say rejoice. Philippians 4:4 In Peace, Billie

The Albanac 9 Josie s Journal Notes of Love, Cheer and Encouragement See what kind of love the Father has given us, that we should be called children of God. 1 John 3:1 A picture is worth a thousand words. These are cards being sent to the sick, lonely and elderly who are unable to worship with us as frequently as they would like. I am being intentional in letting them know that they are loved and missed by the St. Alban s community. Prayerfully, Josie
