Pastor s Pen THERE WILL BE A SECOND COL- LECTION THIS WEEKEND FOR FR. AL S HOME FOR DISABLES CHILDREN IN SRI LANKA There will be a second collection this weekend to help Fr. Al care for disabled children in Sri Lanka. Since there would be no care for these children. Fr. Al has taken in 27 handicapped children, Your help is needed to continue their care AND Fr. Al and the children are grateful for your help. This weekend, we are taking up the collection for the Catholic Communication Campaign (CCC). Family Fun Day Our first St Anthony Family Fun Night was held on Friday April 20 th. About 90 people joined us for a great night including face painting, bingo, relay races, bean bag toss and karaoke. There was good food, happy smiles, and a lot of fun! We all had a great time! The Celebration of the Sacraments Baptism Baptisms are normally celebrated at 2:00PM on scheduled Sundays in a month. Please call the Parish office to arrange for a meeting with a Parish Priest and to register for the baptismal class which is normally held on the 4 th Monday of each month at 7:30PM. Marriage Couples should make an appointment with a Priest at least eight months prior to the wedding. A Marriage Preparation Program is required. Anointing of the Sick Anyone seriously ill, elderly, or prior to an operation should be anointed with the Sacrament of the Anointing of the Sick. Please speak with one of the Priests to make the arrangements. Communion for the Homebound Anyone who cannot attend Mass due to illness or age may receive Communion at home. Please call the Rectory office to make arrangements. Reconciliation (Confession) Every Saturday and Eve of Holy Days from 4:00PM to 4:45PM in the Church and on the Thursday before the First Friday of every month after the 9:00AM Mass. Fitzpatrick Anthony M. Lo Guerico Sunday Scripture Reflection May 13, 2018 7 th Sunday of Easter This Sunday s Gospel is known as the priestly prayer of Jesus. The entire passage is Jesus entrusting us to the Father. When I was with them I protected them I guarded them, Jesus says. He asks His Father, Keep them in your name. In this prayer of Jesus, we see the paradoxical tension of our life as Christians in the world. He anticipates struggle for the believer. He describes it in strong words, words that could even appear frightening to the believer. I gave them your word, and the world hated them. Not only that, but with our eyes on eternal life, we do not belong to the world. And yet in the midst of those realities, Jesus doesn t take us out of the world. On the contrary, as you sent Me into the world, so I sent them into the world. Christians live in this tension daily. The call of Jesus often defies nice, neat categories. We uphold justice as virtue yet are invited to love our enemies. We offer gifts and generous hospitality to others while being reminded of the value of temperance. We are called to teach the truth of right and wrong without losing sight of the beam in our own eye. It can be difficult to find the balance in our own lives, and a Church that preaches moral perfection can easily fall under scrutiny when it falls short. In the midst of these complications, Jesus offers a message of hope. He is well aware of the contradictions into which He sends us, and His Father will equip us accordingly. Consecrate them in truth. Keep them from the evil one. Jesus does not abandon us to the tensions of our time but remains near at hand by the grace alive in His Church. -6-

Amen St. Anthony s Holy Hour is held from 1pm until 2pm on Wednesdays on a regular weekly basis. It begins with Exposition of the monstrance at 1pm & concludes at 2pm following Benediction. The service includes hymns (O Salutaris, Tantum Ergo), Scripture reading, preaching, and silent prayer. AED/CPR TRAINING As you may know the Church has an AED located in the Priest s sacristy hallway. On Mother s Day weekend, May 12 th & 13 th, St. Anthony of Padua parish will be hosting a Baby Bottle Fundraiser to benefit The Life Center of Long Island. The Life Center is a crisis pregnancy center that counsels women and men who are experiencing an unplanned pregnancy.did you know that they provide:free pregnancy tests, maternity housing with eligibility requirements, medical care, referrals, cribscar seats, diapers and all other baby items that may be needed. We are asking that you pick up a baby bottle and fill it with your donation.(make checks out to the Life Center of L.I.) PLEASE RETURN THE BOTTLES ON June 16 th & 17 th Father s Day weekend Most importantly, we are asking you to recite the prayer on the bottle. The prayer attached to the bottle will enable the counselors at The Life Center to say just the right words a mother or father may need to hear. It especially opens a mother s heart to accept the truth. We believe these prayers lead abortion-minded women to call The Life Center in the first place. Miscellaneous Bridget DePasquale Scholarship A $500 Scholarship is being offered to a High School senior who has served St. Anthony of Padua Parish in any capacity during their teen years. The Scholarship is being offered by Drs. Raymond and Thomas Mascolo, of Mascolo Dental in East Northport, in memory of Bridget DePasquale, former Director of Parish Outreach. To apply for the Scholarship, the senior must present an essay entitled: What Serving My Parish Meant to Me. Essays will be read anonymously, and a check will be awarded in June, 2018. You may drop off the completed essay at the rectory office. Be sure to include your name and contact phone number on the outside of the envelope. To help offset the cost for renovation of St. Anthony s Food Pantry & Parish Outreach facility, the Fr. Judge K of C council is running a raffle in conjunction with the 2018 St. Anthony s Family Feast and Festival. All net proceeds will go toward this project.
