UPCOMING EVENTS NOVEMBER Thursday November 19 th, 2015 November 20 th Friday 8.30am 8.00am Whole School Mass led by Rooms 20, 21 & 22 Year 3/4 excursion to Royal Botanic Gardens Prep Breakfast November 27 th Friday 8.30am Whole School Mass led by Rooms 12 & 17 Year 1 & 2 excursion to Fairy Park November 28 th Saturday 8.30am Working Bee November 30 th Monday 5.30pm Christmas Carols Dear Families, This week we were confronted with terrible news and images of people falling victims to the atrocities of terrorism. Throughout the world, especially in Paris there have been horrifying attacks on innocent people. What do we tell our children? We don t want them to live in fear. We came across the internet sight listed below, which provides some tips on how to talk to children about distressing news. http://www.abc.net.au/news/2015-05-04/helping-kids-cope-with-confronting-news/6435352 As difficult as it sometimes is, we need to remember to take up the words of Jesus and do good when evil happens. Let s be inspired by the strength of the survivors of the terrorist attacks. When we hear of a terrorist attack, let us do some kind deed that connects us positively with other people, a chat with a lonely neighbour, a visit to a grandparent, a gift to charity. The aim of terrorists is to make us feel frightened and alienated, but if inspired by the spirit we can display one kind action at a time. Through acts of kindness we can teach our children one of the most important life lessons, God s love can shine through us, overcoming the darkness of hate.

RECONCILIATION By his death on the cross, Jesus Christ redeemed man from sin. The Sacrament of Reconciliation restores life to the soul through forgiveness of our sins after baptism. Through Reconciliation, we come to God to receive healing in our lives and in our relationships. On Tuesday night the children from Year 3 celebrated the Sacrament of Reconciliation in our parish church. Through the sacrament the children had the opportunity to reflect on their own family and friendship experiences, the happy and the hurtful times. The children and their families were able to reflect on the scripture story of The Forgiving Father, before celebrating the Rite of Reconciliation. A special thank you is extended to Fr Noel and the visiting priests, Mrs Frances Barone and the Year 3 teachers who prepared the children so beautifully. Thank you. Cyber Issues.what you should know! At Resurrection we are committed to providing a safe online experience for our children. We are regularly working with and for our students to develop ICT skills. The latest of these initiatives are the two websites below, please take the time to check them..your child will need to help you with the username and password for the Student Portal, but the Earth is a wonderland does not need a username or password. Student Portal Address ~ www.resokids.com.au The Earth is a Wonderland website. www.earthisawonderland.com. Students in Year 5/6 have been using their creative juices to build their own website, designing their own banners, info-graphs, collating videos and writing up information based on their selected natural phenomena. Our website is named after our inquiry unit The Earth is a Wonderland, and aims to provide information about natural phenomena and disasters to children between Years 3 to 7. During the website s construction, students were separated into six different groups. These groups formed the website s subheadings. Groups researched and presented information based on the subheadings of: bushfires, drought, earthquakes, floods, volcanoes, and natural phenomena (general). To support the creation of The Earth is a Wonderland, Year 5/6 students participated in workshops with Tser Lin Heatherton (an ICT Consultant and Google Educator), the Senior School staff and assisted by Mrs. Duyndam. They learned more about Google Sites, widgets, layouts/wireframes and web design. We d like to thank all the senior students for their efforts and the staff who supported this, our first venture into web design and presentation. Senior School Teachers ~ Sabrina D Costa, Erica Carreon, Vanessa Shaw, John Hein, Sara Tsesmetzis, Christina Krajinovic.

PARISH NEWS Christmas Break-Up The first Wednesday of each month is usually our Parish Meeting Night; however the first Wednesday of December (2 December this year) is our Christmas break-up. It is for all parishioners who have helped in some way or other during the year. That would include being in a parish group, ministry, delivering Christmas or Easter brochures, helping at a working bee etc. Parishioners who come are requested to bring a salad or dessert to share. We commence at 7pm. Parish Ministries Our parish Big Bulletin is due out next weekend. Among other informative and interesting things parishioners will find a description of all parish ministries. The following weekend 5-6 December will be our annual sign up for ministries. Every parishioner is asked to prayerfully come to a decision as to where and how they will serve the Lord through our parish. The commitment is for one year. Please fill out the form in the Big Bulletin and bring it with you to Mass on 5-6 December, alternately you can fill it out and return to the parish office prior to that weekend. If not you who? Returning Pilgrims After walking as pilgrims into St Patrick s Cathedral we will come home by train. We will have MYKI group tickets. Can You Help? If you are not able to make the pilgrim walk to the cathedral on December 13; are you prepared to be on standby in case any of the pilgrims need assistance? What is required is that you would make your telephone number available and be prepared to come in your car to pick up any parishioner in difficulty. Most pilgrims will make their own arrangements, however we need a few people on standby - just in case. If you are able to help would you kindly leave your contact details at the Welcome Desk or the Parish Office 93678177 email kingspark@cam.org.au Also if you are able to be at one of the churches we will visit just to check up on everybody please contact as above. We can give you a list of the churches and expected times of arrival. Chairs for Sale Our plastic chairs have served us well since Archbishop Little consecrated our church on 4 June 1993. However new chairs have been ordered and will be in place by Christmas. Should any parishioner be interested in purchasing any of the old chairs they are on sale for $20 each or $150 for 10. Expressions of interest are invited by contacting our parish office on 93678177 or email kingspark@cam.org.au Liturgical Space With new carpet and new chairs to be installed in our church before Christmas, might this be a good time to evaluate our liturgical behaviour? For instance let us agree on the following: Make every effort to arrive before Mass commences; Not engage in needless conversation during Mass; Join in the Mass responses and singing; Not to bring chewing gum into the church; Not to leave tissues on the floor; Not to bring food and drink into the church except for small children and for anybody who is sick. The expectation is that in those cases any mess will be cleaned up by the people creating it; To wait in our seats at the end of Mass until the priest has reached the narthex (about 10 seconds from when the priest bows before the altar); To have a more reverential disposition before Mass (keeping talking to a minimum); Not to engage in conversation during collections or announcements Are You Coming? Don t forget that our pilgrim walk into St Patrick s Cathedral is just 4 weeks away! December 13 after our 10.30am Mass we will set out as pilgrims to walk to and through the Holy Door specially designated by the Archbishop for the Year of Mercy. The Year of Mercy has been declared by Pope Francis as a time of grace when we are asked to focus on God s mercy. There will be opportunities over the next twelve months for us to deepen our understanding of this misunderstood and understated aspect of God. Our pilgrim walk to the cathedral is a way to express symbolically our willingness to open our hearts and minds to God s great love for us and encounter as never before the God of Mercy. Pilgrim Talk Fr Noel will give a talk on Monday 7 December in the Community Centre at 7pm on the part pilgrimage has played in church history. He will focus on the Camino Santiago and offer advice and encouragement to anyone who is thinking about making a pilgrimage; including all those contemplating walking as pilgrims next Sunday.
