Jesus Fulfilled 24 Prophecies In 24 Hours

ABSTRACT These prophecies along with the prophetic utterances Christ fulfilled by His birth, His Ministry and His Nature and Titles demonstrate clearly that the Old Testament is Divinely Inspired and New Testament is an Inspired Record of that fulfillment. OLD TESTAMENT Kevin Lucas Supplement to From the Mind of God to the Hands of Man PROPHECIES Concerning the Death and Resurrection of the Lord Jesus Christ!

Prophecy Old Testament References New Testament Fulfillment Commentary OT Prophecies concerning the Death and Resurrection the Passover Sacrifice Not a Bone of Christ would be broken Not a Bone of Christ would be broken Christ would hanged on a tree and made a curse for us Christ would suffer from extreme thirst during His execution accused by false witnesses Exodus 12; Numbers 9:12 Exodus 12:46 Numbers 9:12 I Corinthians 5:6-7 John 19:31-36 Paul clearly maintains that the Passover in all its aspects are fulfilled in the atoning death of the Lord Jesus Christ. In spite of the great violence done to the Lord, not one of His bones were broken. However, the Bible maintains in Psalm 22:14 probably from the upright of the cross being dropped in the hole! Psalm 34:20 John 19:31-36 The same prophecy as above echoed by the Psalmist. Note we break the bread in communion which is typical of His flesh but not His bones. Deuteronomy 21:23 Galatians 3:13 The fate of those who were under God s curse was to be executed and hanged on a tree but only until Sundown because they were rejected of God. God made Christ a curse for us so that we might have His richest blessing. Psalm 22:15; 69:20-22 John 19:28 One of the pangs of the damned in hell is eternal and unquenchable thirst. Christ bore our hell on the cross. Psalm 27:12; 35:11 Matthew 26:60 Mark 14:55-61 Lies were the chief weapons of Satan against Him and us. BIOMA Kevin S. Lucas, Bible Teacher P a g e 1

struck on the head by His tormentors Christ would have His hands pierced and wounded Christ would have His feet pierced and wounded Christ s executioners would gamble for His coat offered gall and vinegar (sour wine) Micah 5:1 Matthew 27:30 The Roman soldiers played a game called hot hand with Christ. They would beat Him with rods and their fist while He was blindfolded and they would sadistically ask Him to guess who struck Him. They also scourged Him within a hairsbreadth of death and pulled out the beard from His face. Isaiah 50:6 Psalm 22:16 Matthew 27:35; John 19:18,34-37; John 20:25-29 Zechariah 12:10 Matthew 27:35; John 19:18,34-37; John 20:25-29 Psalm 22:10 John 19:23-24; Matthew 27:35; Mark 15:24; Luke 23:34 Psalm 69:20-22 Matthew 27:34; 48; Mark 15:23,36; Luke 23:36; John 19:29 This prophecy was amazing because it accurately depicted crucifixion which was invented by the Phoenicians and adopted by the Romans yet many years in the future at this point This prophecy is an echo of Psalm 22:16 Jesus seamless under robe was a garment probably woven by the mother and was His only material procession at the time of His crucifixion. He who was rich became poor that we poor sinners might be rich. A group of kindhearted women were permitted by the Roman authorities to offer a sour wine mixed with mild narcotic to ease the suffering of the condemned. Jesus refused it after tasting. BIOMA Kevin S. Lucas, Bible Teacher P a g e 2

beaten Isaiah 50:6 Matthew 26:67; 27:26-30; Mark 14:65; 15:15-19; Luke 22:63-65; John 19:1 spat upon betrayed by a friend despised and rejected of men oppressed and afflicted, but would not open His mouth in His own defense Christ would commit His spirit into the hands of the Father Isaiah 50:6 Matthew 26:67; 27:26-30; Mark 14:65; 15:15-19; Luke 22:63-65; John 19:1 Psalm 41:9; 55:12-14 Matthew 26:14-16, 23; 47-50; Luke 22:19-23, 48; John 13:18-30; 18:2-5 Isaiah 53:2-3 Isaiah 53:7 Matthew 27:12; Luke 23:9; Matthew 26:67; John 1:11 Matthew 27:12; Luke 23:19; Matthew 26:62-63; 27:14; Mark 14:61; 15:5; John 19:9 The Roman soldiers played a game called hot hand with Christ. They would beat Him with rods and their fist while He was blindfolded and they would sadistically ask Him to guess who struck Him. They also scourged Him within a hairsbreadth of death and pulled out the beard from His face. Isaiah 50:6 See above The sad case of Judas illustrates the love of God that pursues the sinner even unto death and the stubbornness of the human heart Judas simply refused to accept the love of the Lord Jesus Christ. Nothing can be more painful than rejected love Christ came freely offering God s great gift of salvation and as a nation Israel completely rejected Him. Christ s majestic silence is in accord with the prophecy but also in contrast with almost frantic hatred of His foes. Psalm 31:5 Luke 23:46 Christ made it clear no one took His life He gave it freely. BIOMA Kevin S. Lucas, Bible Teacher P a g e 3

buried with the rich in His death numbered with the transgressors sold for the price of a slave, 30 pieces of silver The Blood Money of Christ would purchase a potter s field our Passover Lamb without spot or blemish Isaiah 53:9 Matthew 27:57-60 Christ entered the world through a borrowed womb of a virgin and left through the borrowed tomb of a rich man. A remarkable prophecy that guaranteed the veracity of the death and Resurrection of Christ forcing Pilate to set a guard and making it impossible for the Resurrection to be a hoax. And it all hinged on man who was too timid to speak for Christ during His life, but was emboldened by His death. It also revealed the effectiveness of the interview with Nicodemus by night! Isaiah 53:9,12 Matthew 27:38; Mark 15:27-28; Luke 22:37; 23:32-33 Another very remarkable prophecy literally fulfilled the transgressors were two thieves one of which was the first soul saved under the New Testament economy for he died after the death of His Lord. Zechariah 11:12 Matthew 26:14-15 Remarkable fulfillment down to the very last silver coin Zechariah 11:12-13 Matthew 27:3, 6-10 Amazing ignorance of the religious rulers blindly they fulfill the Scripture they would have denied Exodus 12:1-11 John 1:29-36, I Corinthians 5:7-8, I Peter 1:18-19 Revelation 5:6-13; 7:14; 21:22-27; 22:1-4 Once again the whole subject of the Passover and all of its details are rich prophetic pictures. BIOMA Kevin S. Lucas, Bible Teacher P a g e 4

the slain Passover Lamb Christ s blood is the ultimate protection against the judgment of God just as the Passover blood saved the first born when properly applied Christ must be lifted up as Moses lifted up the serpent in the wilderness Christ will be raised from the dead Christ will conquer death through His resurrection Christ will be forsaken of God Isaiah 53:7 John 1:29-36, I Corinthians 5:7-8, I Peter 1:18-19 Revelation 5:6-13; 7:14; 21:22-27; 22:1-4 Exodus 12 John 1:29-36, I Corinthians 5:7-8, I Peter 1:18-19 Revelation 5:6-13; 7:14; 21:22-27; 22:1-4 Once again the whole subject of the Passover and all of its details are rich prophetic pictures More than simply His death, the Blood of Jesus Christ as God s divine Sacrifice is Scripturally emphasized. Man may shy away from it but God is not at all bothered by the blood on the contrary He takes delight in it. Numbers 21:8-9 John 3:14-15 Our Lord s own teaching to the ruler of the Jews, Nicodemus, who became His secret disciple and undertaker. Psalm 16:8-11 Luke 24:6-8; John 20; Acts 1:3, 2:32; 13:34-37; 2 Timothy 2:8 Psalm 16:8-11; 49:15;; 86:13 Acts 2:24-36; 13:30-39; I Corinthians 15:3-4 Psalm 22:1 Matthew 27:46; Mark 15:34 According to Romans 1 the Resurrection was proof that God accepted the finished work of Christ and I Corinthians 15 reminds us that His Resurrection was according to the Scriptures and unusually well documented. While only a few of the verses about this are referenced here, this was the theme of most of the preaching of the Early Church and in fact the very message of the Gospel we still preach to this day. God turned His back on His Son as He became sin for us that we might be accepted. BIOMA Kevin S. Lucas, Bible Teacher P a g e 5

Christ will be mocked and insulted by many Christ s friends will stand afar off at His death Christ will ascend on high The reproaches of others will fall on Christ As a result of Judas betrayal of Christ another will be called upon the take Judas place Christ will swallow up death in victory Christ will be so mistreated that He will hardly be recognized as a human being Psalms 22:7-8,17 Matthew 27:31, 39-43; Mark 15:29-32; Luke 23:35-39 Psalm 38:11; 88:18 Matthew 26:56-58; 27:55; Mark 15:40; Luke 23:49 Psalm 66:18 Luke 24:51; Acts 1:9; Ephesians 4:8 Christ bore the mocking and hatred of those He was dying for The weakness of the love of His friends is contrasted with their strength AFTER His Resurrection! Christ s triumphant return to Heaven will be mirrored by the Rapture He went away seen by the eyes of His beloved ones when He comes again in the Clouds He will receive us as believers 7 years later He will return with us to Rule and Reign. Psalm 69:9 Romans 15:3 Christ bore our reproach and we bear His righteousness! Psalm 109:7-8 Acts 1:16-20 A Good case might be made that the Apostles tried to take God s work in their own hands with the election of the replacement for Judas. It appears God had another choice in Saul of Tarsus Isaiah 25:8 I Corinthians 15:54-57 Both those who sleep in Jesus and those who are alive and remain unto the coming of the Lord are in mind here. The Living O death where is thy sting? The raised O grave where is thy victory? Isaiah 52:14 Matthew 26:67,68; 27:27-30; Hebrews 5:8; I Peter 2:21 The Lovely Lord Jesus became marred and ruined by His treatment at the hands of Sinners. BIOMA Kevin S. Lucas, Bible Teacher P a g e 6

Christ will fully carried our griefs and sorrows Christ will be wounded for our transgressions Christ will be led as a lamb to the slaughter Christ will be sinless and without guile Christ will make intercession for the transgressors Christ will be made an offering for sin Isaiah 53:4-5 Matthew 8:17; Romans 5:6-8 Isaiah 53:5 I Corinthians 15:3; 2 Corinthians 5:21; I Peter 3:18 Isaiah 53:7 John 1:29, 36; Acts 8:28-35; I Peter 1:29 Christ s healing ministry was but a mere preview of the substitutionary death Christ died for us carrying the real sickness of humanity sin! The Vicarious, The Vicarious, Revelation 5:6 Isaiah 53:9 I Peter 1:22 The Vicarious, Isaiah 53:12 Luke 23:34 The Vicarious, And praying for those who nailed Him to the Cross Isaiah 53:10-11 Acts 10:43, 13:38-39; Romans 3:21-26; 4:5-8; Ephesians 1:7; I Peter 2:21-25; I John 2:2 The Vicarious, Christ will be cut off according to the prophecy of the 70 weeks of Daniel after the rebuilding of the Wall of the City and before the City is destroyed again. Daniel 9:24-26 Zechariah 9:9 Matthew 21:1-5; 1:15; 24:1-2; Luke 19:37-38; John 12:13-15 An incredibly detailed prophecy that spells out the very timeframe for the first coming of Christ. This same Jesus is coming again to fulfill the latter half of the prophecy with equal precision! Christ will be pierced Zechariah 12:10 John 19:34-37 Clear marks of Christ the Shepherd will be smitten and the Sheep will be scattered Color Key Zechariah 13:6-7 Matthew 26:31; 56; Mark 14:27; John 16:32 Crucifixion The events in the Garden of Gethsemane Prophecies more than 1,200 years before Christ s Birth in Green Prophecies more than 800 years before Christ s Birth in Yellow Prophecies more than 500 years before Christ s Birth in Blue BIOMA Kevin S.
