May 27, 2018 A FEW WORDS FROM OUR PASTOR I would like to begin by thanking everyone who came out and joined us last Sunday to honor and celebrate our very own Father Kevin on the occasion of his 25th Anniversary of his Ordination to Priesthood. Father Kevin has served the people of our diocese most faithfully these past 25 years as a parish priest, a pastor, and college chaplain. We are truly blessed to have him here with us at Saint Saviour Parish. The crowds of people who came out to join us for Eucharist at 11:30 a.m. and the luncheon that followed in our high school gymnasium was most impressive. Even more impressive was the fact that there were people there last Sunday from every parish and ministry Father Kevin served in for these last 25 years, including Father Kevin s first pastor, Msgr. John H. O Brien, a great man who mentored and guided Father Kevin in his first 6 years as a young priest. We wish him 25 more very happy years in ministry serving the people of God here in the Diocese of Brooklyn. A special word of thanks goes out to all the people who worked so hard in coordinating and following through on all the details involved to make last Sunday the beautiful celebration it was both for Father Kevin and our parish family as well. I would also like to thank all the members of our parish family who have already made a pledge in the 2018 Annual Catholic Appeal. We are off to a pretty good start and there is still plenty of time to make a pledge if you haven t done so already. It was most impressive that on the weekend I preached on the Appeal, 217 parishioners took pledge forms home with them from church, and what s even better is that many of those have already been returned to us. Remember, once we reach our goal, ALL the monies collected over our goal will be returned directly here to us at the parish. It doesn t matter how much you give, what does matter is that ALL the members of our parish participate, even if your pledge is a one-time gift. Each week here in the parish bulletin we will keep you all updated on our progress toward reaching (and hopefully exceeding) our parish goal. NEXT SUNDAY, June 3rd, we will be recognizing and honoring ALL the young people of our parish family who received their first sacraments this year this includes all the children who received their First Penance and First Holy Communion, as well as all our teens who received the Sacrament of Confirmation. We encourage our children and teens to wear their First Holy Communion suites and dresses, as well as their confirmation robes to our 9:30 a.m. Family Mass NEXT SUNDAY. At the conclusion of Mass, we will call all these young people up to the front of church for a special blessing, and they will also receive their sacramental certificates. ALL THE CHILDREN OF OUR PARISH FAMILY WHO RECEIVED SACRAMENTS THIS YEAR ARE STRONGLY ENCOURAGED TO ATTEND! Remember what Father Kevin, Father Frank and Bishop Cabezas each said at the celebrations of these sacraments they must continue to be celebrated EVERY WEEK - they are NOT just a one time deal. Finally, I am happy to share with you that Father Hyacinth Njoku will once again be returning to our parish this summer. He will be with us for the months of July, August and September. He has been with us here at Saint Saviour for the last three summers and he was with Father Kevin and I at Saint Brendon Parish for a few years before that. He s a good man and a great priest. I spoke with him last week and he is very excited about coming back home to Saint Saviour for the summer. Have a great week everyone. Father Frank Stewardship May 20 Offertory $6,64500 Attendance
Father s Day Mass Remembrance Just a reminder for you to return your Father s Day Mass Remembrance Envelopes as soon as possible so that your Dad (living or deceased) can be remembered at each of our celebrations of Eucharist on Father s Day weekend (June 16th & June 17th). Envelopes are available at each of the front doors to the church, as well as in the Sacristy. We ll also have a few in the Rectory as well. There is no better way to remember our Dads than by remembering them in prayer at each of our celebrations of Eucharist on Father s Day weekend. In recognition of Memorial Day, our Rectory Office will be closed on Monday, May 28th. Our Rectory will re-open on Tuesday morning, May 29, at 9:00 a.m. We also want to take this opportunity to say a great big THANK YOU to all those men and women who have served our country proudly and faithfully throughout the years we are so grateful for all that you have done to keep us safe and for enabling us to live in freedom. We remember in a special way this weekend all those persons who are currently serving our country and all those persons who have lost their lives in this ongoing war against terror. May God continue to bless this great country of ours and may God shield our troops from all danger, bringing them home safely to our shores. Congratulations to parishioner Mr. James Wilson who won our 50/50 drawing. A total of $170.00 was collected for the May 50/50 so both our parish and the winner will each receive $85.00. We are now collecting envelopes for the June 50/50. Remember, the donation for each chance is just $10.00. The more you complain the longer God lets you live.
