Thank You to Priests Saint John s is most appreciative to the priests who have been covering Masses, Funerals, and other services during Father Jim s recuperation. Their services will be needed for a little while longer as Father Jim s schedule, by doctor s orders, needs to remain light. So we extend thanks to Father Ron Simboli, Monsignor Roger Statnick, Monsignor Michael Matusak, Father Jim Clark, and Father Bonaventure, OSB (from Saint Vincent). 2018 Church Calendars We express our gratitude as a parish to the Donald Crawford Funeral Home of Hopwood and the Stephen Haky Funeral Home of Uniontown for providing us with the Church Calendars for 2018. They are available at the entrances of the church. Please take one home with you. If you would like to help, we ask you to meet at the home of Donna Bryant on Thursday, December 13 at noon. Donna has offered to provide a light lunch. Her address is 506 Paul Court located in Craig Meadows. Please call Donna if you are able to come and help. Her phone number is 723 322 8987. This is a special project of the Christian Mothers which we are proud to provide for our Parish.

REFLECTION 2nd Sunday of Advent "People of the whole Judean countryside and all the inhabitants of Jerusalem were going out to him." John the Baptist commanded quite a crowd. What was the attraction? Was it his unusual appearance-clothed in camel's hair? Perhaps it was his bizarre eating habits-feeding on locusts and wild honey. Or maybe people were captivated by the Baptist's remarkable humility in the face of such huge popularity-"i am not worthy." Unlike our modern fascination with standing in the presence of superstars, the crowds who flocked to John weren't looking for a thrill. They weren't lining up for autographs. They were lining up for baptism. And they were acknowledging their sins at the same time. John was proclaiming "a baptism of repentance for the forgiveness of sins." And people came because they were longing to experience the freedom of that forgiveness. John called them to conversion. To convert means to turn, in this case to turn away from sin. And the crowds were anxious to do so in order to "prepare the way of the Lord." For these first-century Jews, the imminent approach of the Messiah came with a call for conversion and they took this call very seriously. Now, for us, as twenty-first century Christians, the Church, like John the Baptist, calls us to prepare and repent during this season of Advent. Will we take the call seriously? Will we examine the areas of our lives that need to change? Will we pray for God's help to overcome our habitual sin and to make choices based on generosity instead of selfishness? Now is the time to heed the message. Now is the time to "prepare the way of the Lord, make straight his paths." Sanctuary Candle In acknowledging the Real Presence of Christ, the Tabernacle Candle will burn in loving memory of Birthday Blessings & Health of Peggie Rider requested by Dave & Mary Ann Rider

Christmas Concert Broadcast Through the generosity of an anonymous donor, the Christmas Cantata preformed by our Choir, prior to the Midnight Mass will be broadcast on WMBS 590 AM and 101.1 FM radio at 2:25 PM on Christmas Day. Please inform family, friends and especially the homebound about this broadcast. May God bless this generous donor. PLEASE JOIN US! MT. MACRINA MANOR S LIVE NATIVITY Mt. Macrina Manor s Annual drive-through Live Nativity will be held on the grounds of Mt. St. Macrina on Sunday, December 10, from 5-7 p.m. The Nativity will be set up along the Friendship Circle, adjacent to the facility. Mary and Joseph, shepherds tending to their flock, the Three Kings, the Little Drummer Boy, and angels will be portrayed. In addition, there will also be live animals, including a donkey, goat, sheep, calf, and an alpaca. The Sisters of St. Basil the Great, the Church of God Choir, and St. George Youth Group will sing Christmas carols. Angels will be passing out candy canes to visitors. Five hundred luminaries will line the driveway that leads to the Nativity. The event is free of charge and everyone is welcome. For information phone Mary at 724-430-1021.
