Sunday, April 29, 6:30 p.m. A Time to Mourn, A Time to Dance
About tonight s program We are honored tonight to be the recipients of this beautiful benefit concert gifted to us by the fabulous Wilshire Baptist Church Sanctuary Choir. Thank you for partnering with us to offer hope to those who have experienced the death of a loved one. The Grief and Loss Center of North Texas was established January 2011 to offer no-cost emotional support to preschoolers, children, teens and adults as they process the loss of someone special in their lives. Over the past seven years, we have seen more than 2,500 clients through individual sessions, groups, bereavement events and working with company employees who experience the death of a coworker. Our SAM s (Same As Me) program for 4-yearolds through high school seniors is offered at our own facility and on school campuses to help children and their families as they adjust to life without a loved one. More than 800 children and family members have been served thus far. We offer year-round monthly groups for those who have lost loved ones to suicide or homicide, young adults (19-35) who have experienced the death of a parent or sibling, others whose spouses/partners have died, and parents who have experienced the death of a child. Our clients become family as we offer unconditional acceptance, confidentiality, understanding, compassion and hope. Almost 80 percent of our clients are underserved and would not have access to grief support without the center. We rely on your monetary gifts to continue our work. At the end of tonight s concert, our board members will be at each door to receive your gifts. We are a formal 501(c)(3) organization, so every contribution is tax-exempt. Checks may be made payable to Grief and Loss Center of North Texas. Some of the music you ll hear tonight expresses deep sorrow followed by songs of great hope. The Grief and Loss Center is founded on hope. Our clients are not alone. They will come through the other side of their grief with newfound hope. We invite you to attend the reception in the James Gallery immediately following tonight s program. Thank you for your support. And thank you to Doug Haney and the Sanctuary Choir for your beautiful gift of hope. A Time to Mourn, A Time to Dance Sunday, April 29, 2018 6:30 p.m. Welcome Laurie Taylor, Executive director Grief and Loss Center of North Texas REQUIEM by John Rutter 1. Requiem aeternam Requiem aeternam dona eis Domine: et lux perpetua luceat eis. Te decet hymnus, Deus in Sion: et tibi reddetur votum in Jerusalem. Exaudi orationem meam, ad te omnis caro veniet. Kyrie eleison. Christe eleison. Kyrie eleison. Grant them rest eternal, Lord our God, we pray to thee: And light perpetual shine on them forever. Thou, Lord, art worshipped in Zion; thy praises shall ever be sung in all Jerusalem. O hear us; O Lord, hear thy faithful servants prayer; to thee shall all mortal flesh return. Lord, have mercy. Christ, have mercy. Lord, have mercy. 2. Out of the Deep (Psalm 130) Out of the deep have I called unto thee, O Lord: Lord, hear my voice. O let thine ears consider well: the voice of my complaint. If thou, Lord, wilt be extreme to mark what is done amiss: O Lord, who may abide it? For there is mercy with thee: therefore shalt thou be feared. I look for the Lord; my soul doth wait for him: in his word is my trust. My soul fleeth unto the Lord; before the morning watch, I say, before the morning watch. O Israel, trust in the Lord, for with the Lord there is mercy: And with him is plenteous redemption. And he shall redeem Israel: from all his sins. 3. Pie Jesu Grace Jennings, soprano Pie Jesu Domine, dona eis requem. Pie Jesu Domine, dona eis sempiternam requiem. Blessed Jesus, Lord I pray in thy mercy grant them rest. Lord our God, we pray thee, grant them everlasting rest. 3
4. Sanctus Sanctus, Sanctus, Sanctus, Dominus Deus Sabaoth. Pleni sunt caeli et terra Gloria tua. Hosanna in excelsis. Benedictus qui venit in nomine Domini. Hosanna in excelsis. Holy, Holy, Holy, Lord, God of power and majesty. Heaven and earth are full of thy glory. Hosanna in the highest. Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord our God; Hosanna in the highest. 5. Agnus Dei Agnus Dei, qui tollis peccata mundi, dona eis requiem. (Lamb of God, that takest away the sins of the world: in thy mercy, grant them rest.) Man that is born of a woman hath but a short time to live, and is full of misery. He cometh up, and is cut down like a flower; he fleeth as it were a shadow. Agnus Dei, qui tollis peccata mundi, dona eis requiem. In the midst of life we are in death: of whom may we seek for succor? Agnus Dei, qui tollis peccata, mundi, dona eis requiem. I am the resurrection and the life, saith the Lord: He that believeth in me, though he were dead, Yet shall he live: and whosoever liveth and believeth in me shall never die. 6. The Lord is my Shepherd (Psalm 23) The Lord is my shepherd; therefore can I lack nothing. He shall feed me in a green pasture, And lead me forth beside the waters of comfort. He shall convert my soul, And bring me forth in the paths of righteousness, for his name s sake. Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, for thou art with me; thy rod and thy staff comfort me. Thou shalt prepare a table before me against them that trouble me; Thou hast anointed my head with oil, and my cup shall be full. But thy loving-kindness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life; And I will dwell in the house of the Lord for ever. 4
7. Lux aeterna I heard a voice from heaven saying unto me, blessed are the dead who die in the Lord, For they rest from their labours: even so saith the Spirit. Lux aeterna luceat eis, Domine: cum sanctis tues in aeternum, quia pius es. Requiem aeternam dona eis Domine: et lux perpetua luceat eis. (Light eternal shine upon them, Lord, we pray: With saints and angels ever dwelling, for thy mercy s sake, may they rest in peace. Grant them rest eternal, Lord our God, We pray to thee: and light perpetual shine on them for ever.) Remarks Look to the Day Finally fall. At last the mist, heat s haze, we woke these past weeks with has lifted. We find ourselves chill, a briskness we hug ourselves in. Frost greying the ground. Grief might be easy if there wasn t still such beauty would be far simpler if the silver maple didn t thrust its leaves into flame, trusting that spring will find it again. Kevin Young Look to the day when the world seems new again: Morning so fresh you could touch the sky; The earth smells sweet and ev ry flower looks bright, Shining in a dewy light as you wander by. Taking the time to enjoy each moment; Tasting the fruits spread along your way, Knowing there s time to spare, Dreams you can dream and share: look to the day. 5 Doug Haney Rutter
Look to the day when the earth is green again: Promise of spring after winter s sleep. The sounds of life returning fill the air, Music that s forever there for your heart to keep. Deep in the earth lay the seed of life renewed, Quiet and strong till the time of spring: Life in each bud and shoot, life in each flower and fruit, Look to that day when earth shall sing. Look to the light that will drive out darkness; Look to the hope that will conquer fear. God s strength upholds us till the fight is won, Till we see our task is done when the day is here. Look for that day when there shall be no more pain; Sorrow and sighing shall pass away. Pray for the day to come, trust that the day will come, Look to that day, look to the day. Lord, we give thanks for the gifts of life and health; Plant a new seed in our hearts, we pray: Help us to see, O Lord, how it could be, O Lord; look to the day. To Every Thing There is a Season Rutter To ev ry thing there is a season, and a time to ev ry purpose under the heaven: A time to be born, and a time to die; a time to plant, And a time to pluck up that which is planted; To ev ry thing there is a season, and a time to ev ry purpose under the heaven: A time to kill, and a time to heal; a time to break down, and a time to build up; A time to weep, and a time to laugh; a time to mourn, and a time to dance; A time to cast away stones, and a time to gather stones together; A time to embrace, and a time to refrain from embracing; A time to get, and a time to lose; a time to keep, and a time to cast away; To ev ry thing there is a season, and a time to ev ry purpose under the heaven: A time to love, and a time to hate; a time of war, and a time of peace. 6
