December 12, 2014 Why Should We Give Very Generously through the Lottie Moon Offering? The Lottie Moon Offering is our major annual giving effort for the work of International Missions. It s named for a missionary who began proclaiming Christ in China in the 1870s. Lottie Moon gave her life to the sacred effort of reaching the Chinese people with the gospel. She challenged Southern Baptists to give funds generously so that others could join the work overseas. Our church s Lottie Moon goal this year is $30,000. Why should we each give the most generous gift possible through the Lottie Moon offering? I ll give you three reasons. First, obedience to Christ demands it. Jesus said, All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Go therefore and make disciples of all nations. For others to go, we must give the money to support them. Second, love for the lost demands it. Jesus said, Do unto others as you would have them do unto you. If you were without the gospel, would you want goers and senders to work together to get the gospel to you? Love for the lost cannot do less. Third, desire for Christ s glory demands it. As 18 th century Moravian missionaries sailed away from their families who waved goodbye from shore, the missionaries called out: May the Lamb that was slain have the reward of His suffering! They wanted Jesus to receive glory for the salvation of those who would be saved by their witness. Do we desire to obey Christ? Do we love the lost? Do we desire for the Lord Jesus to receive glory for the salvation of many who have not yet received the gospel? Make the largest gift that you possibly can through the Lottie Moon offering in the coming weeks! Pastor Coye Still

UHBC Library News New DVDs are available in the University Hills Library. Please take a look! 1. Why Do We Call It Christmas? You know the Christmas story, but do you know the story of Christmas? Produced by Phil Vischer (of Veggie Tales), this animated film answers many questions, such as: Why is Christmas on December 25? Who was Saint Nicholas? Why do we put oranges and gold coins in stockings? Why do we have stockings as part of our Christmas observance? Who or what is "Emmanuel" and why do we want him to come? 2. Torchlighters Heroes of the Faith This is a set of 12 animated DVDs telling the stories of famous missionaries such as Jim Elliott, Corrie ten Boom, John Bunyan, Amy Carmichael, and Augustine among others. In addition to the animated portion, each DVD also includes a documentary on the life of the individual. Although the target audience is tweens and teens, I learned a lot by watching these videos.
