Welcome into our Catholic family by the Sacrament of Baptism: Lola Ann Veillon, daughter of Eric & Lainey Veillon Amelie Hope & Emmett James Payne, daughter & son of Andrew & Natalie Payne PRAYER PARTNER NEEDED: There are many Holy Hours with only 1 adorer. A prayer partner for these adorers would enable them to depend on each other and allow more flexibility with their schedule. *ATTENTION PARENTS* Registration forms for 1st Communion & Confirmation for Sacred Heart Students have been sent out. They are due by Monday, September 19th. Forms are also available in the church office. Knights of Columbus Meeting Tuesday, September 27th at 7:00pm At the KC Hall Please contact Butch Buller at 831-2228 if you re interested in joining. FROM THE PASTOR Dear Parishioners, Today our readings are about stewardship. A steward is somebody in charge of someone else s property or belongings. We are stewards of God s gifts and He expects us to use them wisely and with profit for the Kingdom of God. We all have our own gifts and talents. There are no exceptions. So let us all be good stewards and build up the Kingdom of God. Bishop Deshotel has started to make some changes in the diocese now that he has been here for a while. He has decided that we will no longer have Regions in the diocese but rather Deaneries with a Dean for each one. We have 4 Deaneries in the Diocese of Lafayette: North, South, Central, and West. The North Deanery comprises Evangeline and St. Landry civil parishes. The Bishop has appointed me as the Dean of the North Deanery, so please keep me in your prayers. The Dean is a Vicar Forane. From Forane we get the word foreigner or from outside. So the Vicar Forane is the Bishop s representative in a certain geographical area. So if you see VF after my name that s what it stands for. Basically it means being the Bishop s coordinator in this Deanery. We have some 34 Church parishes and 10 missions in the Northern Deanery. This is all in addition to my duties as your pastor. With the grace of God and your prayers I hope to fulfill them well and be a good steward. Please keep the other Deans in your prayers too: Rev. Chester Arceneaux (Central Deanery), Rev. William Blanda (South Deanery), and Rev. Louis Richard (West Deanery). RCIA starts this Tuesday at 7:00pm in the Meeting Room. This is for anyone that is not Catholic and is interested in becoming Catholic possibly. This is also for Catholics who need First Communion and/or Confirmation. This is also for confirmed Catholics who just want to learn more about your faith. Please spread the word to all of the above and have them call Fr. Tom for an interview. On Thursday at 5:30pm we will have an altar server training for new altar servers. Please call in advance if your child is interested in serving the Lord at the altar on Sundays. We are in need of new readers and extraordinary lay ministers of Holy Communion. Please call Fr. Tom to sign up. We will have training for all of the above. Thanks to Fr. Richard Vidrine for the new flags in the Sanctuary which he donated. They add a special touch to our Church. Thank you very much! Thanks also to those who donated towards the rectory office decorations: Dr. Jake & Ashley Lafleur, Eva Guillory, Theresa Attales, Barbara Vidrine, Ethel Fontenot, and Leonard & Mary Alice Fontenot. There is still room to finish paying for the other art work if you would like to donate. Check out Catholic Radio at 1230AM. It has some local programming and the rest is EWTN radio. If you want to listen on Tuesday, September 20th to the morning show Arise & Shine Acadiana, I have an interview about St. Teresa of Calcutta. Sincerely in Christ, Fr. Thomas Voorhies

Tom s Joke of the Week There was a barber who paid close attention at his parish whenever the topic of evangelization was discussed. He thought he should be doing more to share his faith with his customers. The next morning the barber told the Lord in prayer, Today I m going to witness to the first customer who walks through my door. A man came in as he opened his shop and said, I need a shave. The barber said, Yes sir! Just have a seat and I ll be right with you. The barber went in the back and prayed a quick prayer saying, Lord, the first customer just came in and I m going to witness to him. Give me the wisdom to know just the right thing to say. Amen. Then the barber came out with his straight razor in one hand and a Bible in the other and told his customer: I have a question for you: Are you ready to meet your Maker? Adopt-A-Baby 5th Month Update I am 5 months old now. I m about 12 inches long and I weigh about 1 pound. I m really getting big and mommy can now feel me moving around. Maybe I ll play Trojan football some day! Please keep praying for me! Your spiritually adopted baby weighs over one pound now. His mother can feel his movement; before he was too small for her to feel. Although he swam with ease in his watery world, he needed to be big and strong enough to kick hard against the outside wall and dent it the inside wall of the uterus has no feeling. We are mid-way through the pregnancy now. Your prayers have helped your baby s mother continue with her pregnancy and seek the help she needs. Parishioners For Life Bishop Vasa on Abortion: There are just choices and there are unjust choices. Choices would be the preference for chocolate ice cream over vanilla ice cream or sherbet instead of ice cream. That is just a choice. A just choice would be to choose to pay a fair and living wage to employees as opposed to simply meeting the mandatory standard of minimum wage laws. An unjust choice would be to choose to terminate the life of another human being. This is not just a choice and it is not a just choice; it is an unjust choice. Furthermore it is an unjust choice which is diametrically opposed to the clear and consistent teaching of the Catholic Church as well as to the clear and consistent teaching of God Himself in the Ten Commandments. The direct, intentional taking of the life of an innocent human being is inhumane and unjust. It is not just a choice! Bishop Robert Vasa, March 1, 2007 33 Days to Morning Glory Join us for 33 Days to Morning Glory, a 6-week program & learn the quickest, surest, easiest way to sainthood. With the book 33 Days to Morning Glory and the accompanying groupretreat materials, consisting of large & small group sessions and DVD lessons by Fr. Michael Gaitley, MIC, and a Retreat Companion for each participant, this program leads us to formally entrust ourselves to Mary, the way Christ did at the Annunciation and as He willed for us at the foot of the cross. We will meet for six weeks to learn about consecration to Jesus through Mary from four of the Marian greats: St. Louis de Montfort, St. Maximilian Kolbe, Blessed Mother Teresa, and Blessed John Paul II. This is a great opportunity during the Year of Mercy! Deadline to register: September 30th Location: TBA October 20- November 17 Thursdays 6:15-7:30pm Cost: $32.00 (for complete set of materials) or If you own your own book - $25.00 (for workbook only) READINGS FOR THE WEEK Monday, September 19: Prv 3:27-34; Lk 8:16-18 Tuesday, September 20: Prv 21:1-6, 10-13; Lk 8:19-21 Wednesday, September 21: Eph 4:1-7,11-13; Mt 9:9-13 Thursday, September 22: Eccl 1:2-11; Lk 9:7-9 Friday, September 23: Eccl 3:1-11; Lk 9:18-22 Saturday, September 24: Eccl 11:9---12:8; Lk 9:43b-45 Sunday, September 25 reading for Holy Mass: Worship Hymnal page 1186 Upcoming Retreats + STOP AND THINK About How You Spend Your Time! The next Weekend is Oct 14-15, 2016 at the Bishop Robert E. Tracy Center in Baton Rouge. You can get more information or register online at LAMS-wwme.org or by calling 470-297-8560. + Rachel s Vineyard Retreat, October 7-9, 2016: Rachel s Vineyard Retreat is an extraordinary opportunity for any person who struggles with the emotional and spiritual pain of abortion.
