Welcome to our parish! As pastor, I hope we can enrich your experience as much as you enrich ours. Fr. David Ruby First Holy Communion Prayer Lord Jesus Christ, in the Sacrament of the Eucharist, You left us the outstanding manifestation of your limitless love for us. Thank You for giving these children the opportunity to experience this love in receiving the Sacrament for the first time. May your Eucharist presence keep them ever free from sin, fortified in faith, pervaded by love for God and neighbor and fruitful in virtue, that they may continue to receive You throughout life and attain final union with You at death. 2 Welcome to Stella Maris in Baileys Harbor, Egg Harbor, Fish Creek, Jacksonport, Sister Bay & Washington Island Notice: If you have an announcement to be read at Mass regarding your church activity, please send an email to Mary Gomoll at marygomoll@gmail.com. Faith Formation Springtime! March 20th was the official first day of Spring, but to me it really does not feel like Spring until the Easter Season. This is the time when we give thanks for the resurrection and for the beauty of new life which surrounds us during Springtime! We thank God for our Blessings as found in the following poems: There is real wisdom, Lord, in the adage 'It is always Springtime in the heart that loves God.' Springtime is a season of optimism and hope, and the Christian lives a faith centered on hope. Winter, with its cold and dark days has gone, just as Good Friday has passed to Easter and beyond. We live a resurrection life reflected in the new life springing up around us. Thank you, Lord, for the hope that you bring, the renewal that you bring, both to this world and to our hearts and lives. Springtime! Your message of hope to a world tiring of winter s starkness, longing for that first crocus to push through snow s icy blanket and spread its leaves, like arms outstretched, to its creator. Springtime! Our yearly reminder, if we needed one, that to a world that was dark and cold, a world devoid of love s sweet warmth, you sent your Son to break through sin s icy blanket, and arms outstretched on a cross, he brought us hope. Thank you Blessings, Linda Cummer, Faith Formation Coordinator (Read more at: http://www.faithandworship.com/ Prayers_Spring.htm#ixzz589VKjnvA Under Creative Commons License: Attribution) Health & Wellness NOTES FROM THE NURSE: DON T GIVE UP ON YOUR WEIGHT LOSS GOALS Have you tried to lose weight and failed? Or maybe you need to lose a few pounds but can t get motivated. You are not alone. Recent research has revealed that even while we are growing heavier as a nation, fewer people ae trying to lose weight. If you know you should lose weight but just can t seem to get started give these tips a try: Write it down. Keep a food diary to help avoid mindless eating. Think small. You are more likely to succeed with small, manageable changes such as: swapping out dessert for fresh fruit several times a week or committing to walking 20 minutes a day. Enlist friends. Know a friend or neighbor who also wants to lose weight? Ask him/her to be your accountability buddy. Stay positive. Remember every day is a new one. Remind yourself of the progress you ve made and the times you have been successful in making better choices. Over time your good choices become habitual and it will be easier to maintain a healthy weight. 5 Fourth Sunday of Easter-April 22, 2018 Worship and Music Column World Day of Prayer for Vocations In our politically charged society, I imagine many have heard the quote, "It takes a village..." Whether or not one likes the politics of the author of that quote, in the words are truth. It takes many people to create and sustain a community. For those of us who are Catholic, we believe in the power of vocations to help spread the Gospel message. And vocations are an important part of the community. The vocations to priesthood, or the deaconate, or religious life are at the center of our efforts to spread the good news. However, we need to also speak about the vocation of married life as service to the church and furthermore, the vocation of single life. It is at our baptism that we are given the mandate to spread the Gospel through our vocation in the church. "Behold, I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears my voice and opens the door, then I will enter his house and dine with him and he with me" (Rv 3:20). We hear in Scripture that Jesus stands at the door of our heart and knocks. He only invites and never demands or breaks into our lives without our acceptance. He knocks, we open the door and the invitation and welcome are complete. Let us pray... God of the invitation, you knock upon the door of everyone's heart. We seek the courage to open that door, for we know the responsibility of saying yes. We humbly ask you for your wisdom to serve your church with compassion and acceptance. We believe that when we say yes, you will provide the grace for the work ahead. Give grace to those men and women who have dedicated their lives to constant service to your church. Also give grace to those couples and single men and women who work for the church in their secular lives. We ask all this through Christ our Lord and brother, who live and reign with you and the Holy Spirit. Amen.
