Introduction The Ukrainian Center for Holocaust Studies (UCHS) was established in 2002. It is a non-governmental organization founded in partnership with I. Kuras Institute for Political and Ethnic Studies of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine. The UCHS participates in international projects in alliance with academic and educational institutions all over the world.
Fields of Activity The UCHS focuses its activity on two areas which benefit one from another: Research Education
Holocaust Education Development of concepts for Holocaust teaching in Ukraine in cooperation with the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine Development of a data-base for researchers, teachers and students on Holocaust studies. Conduction of educational seminars on Holocaust history for university lecturers, students, school teachers and pupils Guided tours in combination with seminars to Jewish places and sites of the Holocaust in Ukraine. Support for schools working on the topic of the Holocaust in Ukraine
Pupils research and art works Conducting the annual all-ukrainian competition of pupils research and art works History and Lessons of the Holocaust has become a tradition at the UCHS
Ukrainian Teachers at Yad Vashem Since November 2006 different groups of Ukrainian school teachers annually visit the International School for Holocaust History at Yad Vashem (Jerusalem) A joint project of the UCHS and Yad Vashem with support of the International Task Force
Ukrainian Teachers at Mémorial de la Shoah In November 2008 the first group of Ukrainian history teachers was received at the Mémorial de la Shoah in Paris. annually conducted educational seminar financially supported by Mémorial de la Shoah and ITF
Cooperation with Anne Frank House since 2002 Traveling exhibition Anne Frank a History for Today with 8 additional panels about Ukrainian children victims of the Holocaust (developed by the Center). Number of cities visited 25 Number of visitors - 75000 Peer guide trainings for the exhibition in every host-city Number of guides trained - 600 Development of manuals on the issues of tolerance, xenophobia, the Holocaust, and human rights for schools
