City, English, naturalised 1846 January 24: *Kendal Mercury Settle We-recorded last week the death of Thos. Clapham, Esq, of Stackhouse, near Settle, only son of the late Rev. John Clapham, vicar of Giggleswick. Mr Clapham has, it is said, bequeathed the sum of 4,000 a year to Thomas Clapham, of Potternewton, near Leeds, a gentleman who was no relative nor even an acquaintance of the deceased. It is stated he has also bequeathed to the Leeds Infirmary 10,000, to the Harrogate Bath Hospital 5,000, and to another public charity 4,000. 1847 July 17: *Kendal Mercury New County.Magistrate tor Lancashire. Thomas Clapham, Esq.. Stackhouse, near Settle, qualified and took the usual oaths as a magistrate for Lancashire, at the Court-house, Preston, on Wednesday week. 1850 September 14: *Leeds Intelligencer Leeds On Thursday, at No. 6, Grove-terrace, in the 89th year of her age, Hannah, widow of the late Thomas Clapham, Esq., of Starbotton, and mother of Thomas Clapham, Esq., of Stackhouse. 1852 December 18: *Kendal Mercury Stackhouse, on the 8th inst., Mary, the beloved wife of Thomas Clapham, Esq., aged 70 years. 1853 April 2: *Leeds Times MARRIAGES. The Births register index shows that she had been registered in the last quarter of the previous year. 1859 June 4: *Sheffield Independent Deaths- Clapham- On the 24th ult., at Stackhouse, Settle, Thomas Clapham, Esq., magistrate and deputy-lieutenant for the West Riding of Yorkshire, aged 73. 1861 September 30: England, Births and Christenings, 1538-1975. Salt Lake City, Utah Baptism of Herbert, son of Abraham and Mary Anne Susan Clapham, at St Thomas's Scarborough. 1865: England and Wales Civil Registration Indexes Death of Agnes Clapham registered in Scarborough, second quarter. 1865 July 15: *Kendal Mercury A List of Visitors to the Lakes: BOWNESS- Mrs. Hird, Bank Terrace.- Abraham Clapham, Esq., and family, Scarborough. 1867 December 17: The New York Genealogical and Biographical Record Death of Gloger Clapham. 1869 February 20: *Lancaster Gazette North Western Railway - In consequence of the vacancy occasioned by the death of John Harrison, Esq., your directors invited Abraham Clapham, Esq., of Scarbro', to join the board, he being one of the largest shareholders, and he has been appointed accordingly. Major Hare, and Abraham Clapham, Esq., two of your directors, and Mr. Robert Frost, one of your auditors retire by rotation at this meeting, and are all eligible and offer themselves for re-election. 1873: England and Wales Civil Registration Indexes Birth of Lilian Marie Sayer registered in Pancras, London, first quarter. 1875 January 11: *York Herald Fatality to a Lunatic Patient at Acomb. On Friday evening Mr. Frederick Thomas Clapham, a patient in the Lime Tree House Asylum, at Acomb, came to a sudden death. The deceased, who was, somewhat addicted to liquor, had been in the city in i the afternoon, and returned in the evening somewhat the worse for the drink he bad taken. At about half- past six o'clock the fall of a body was heard by the attendants, and the deceased was directly after found laid on a landing at the foot of a flight of stairs. He expired about ten minutes afterwards. It is supposed that the deceased had been attacked with a fit of apoplexy, and then fell helplessly down the stairs. He was sixty-three years of age, and in good circum- stances. An inquest is to be held at Acomb to-day. 1875 June 2: *York Herald SCARBOROUGH SANATORIUM AND MEDICAL BATH COMPANY (Limited). Incorporated under the Companies Acts, 1862 and 1867, by which ability of the Shareholders is limited to the amount of their Shares.
