Preparation Prelude We Pray Now to the Holy Spirit Dietrich Buxtehude Words of Welcome *Call to Worship The Reverend Erika Funk One: We have come here with one purpose: All: to worship God. One: But we have come with different reasons: All: because it s what we re supposed to do, One: because we want to make our families happy, All: because we are grateful for God s blessings. One: Most of all, we are here to worship All: because it is in worship that we are most fully the people God has created us to be. One: Come, let us worship the Lord. Adoration *Hymn No. 307 God of Grace and God of Glory cwm rhondda

Large-print hymnals and Bibles are available. Please let an usher know if you would like one. The Prayer of Confession was adapted from a prayer written by the Reverend Nancy C. Townley. Call to Confession Confession The Reverend Katherine Kerr Prayer of Confession Merciful God, we become so enamored of the glitz and glitter of the world. We have so much and want so much more. Break the bonds of our attachment to greed and reward. Open our hearts to know that the riches of the kingdom are in service to you. Help us to understand the call you have given us to service, and having heard and understood that call, may we be about the work of the kingdom. We offer this prayer in Jesus name. One: In silent prayer, let us confess to God the things we choose not to speak aloud. A time of silence will be kept. The rosebuds in the sanctuary celebrate the births of Samuel Rhodes Mendelssohn, son of Katie and Erik Mendelssohn, and Julia Ross Harnett, daughter of Lauren and Max Harnett. Assurance of Pardon One: Friends, believe the good news. All: In Jesus Christ we are forgiven. *Response (Hymn No. 581) gloria patri Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Ghost; as it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be, world without end. *Affirmation of Faith The Reverend Katelyn Gordon (from A Brief Statement of Faith) In a broken and fearful world the Spirit gives us courage to pray without ceasing, to witness among all peoples to Christ as Lord and Savior, to unmask idolatries in church and culture, to hear the voices of peoples long silenced, and to work with others for justice, freedom, and peace. In gratitude to God, empowered by the Spirit, we strive to serve Christ in our daily tasks and to live holy and joyful lives, even as we watch for God s new heaven and new earth, praying, Come, Lord Jesus! With believers in every time and place, we rejoice that nothing in life or in death can separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord. Glory to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit. Prayers of the People Stewardship of Life New Members Presentation of Tithes and Offering Response Offertory Be Thou My Vision arr. Vicente Chavarria Be thou my vision, O Lord of my heart; naught be all else to me, save that thou art. Thou my best thought by day or by night, waking or sleeping, thy presence my light. Be thou my wisdom and thou my true word; I ever with thee and thou with me, Lord. Thou my great father, I thy true son; thou in me dwelling, and I with thee one. Riches I heed not, nor man s empty praise; thou mine inheritance, now and always. Thou, and thou only first in my heart, high king of heaven, my treasure thou art. High king of heaven, my victory won, may I reach heaven s joys, O bright heaven s sun! Heart of my own heart, whatever befall, still be my vision, O ruler of all. *Doxology old hundredth Praise God from whom all blessings flow; Praise him all creatures here below; Praise him above, ye heavenly host; Praise Father, Son, and Holy Ghost. *Prayer of Dedication and The Lord s Prayer Our Father who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name. *Hymn No. 307 God of Grace and God of Glory 1 God of grace and God of glory, on thy people pour thy power; crown thine ancient church s story; bring its bud to glorious flower. for the facing of this hour, for the facing of this hour. 2 Lo! the hosts of evil round us scorn thy Christ, assail his ways! From the fears that long have bound us free our hearts to faith and praise. for the living of these days, for the living of these days. 3 Cure thy children s warring madness; bend our pride to thy control; shame our wanton, selfish gladness, rich in things and poor in soul. lest we miss thy kingdom s goal, lest we miss thy kingdom s goal. 4 Save us from weak resignation to the evils we deplore. Let the gift of thy salvation be our glory evermore. serving thee whom we adore, serving thee whom we adore. *Hymn No. 697 1 Take my life and let it be consecrated, Lord, to thee; take my moments and my days; let them flow in ceaseless praise; let them flow in ceaseless praise. 2 Take my hands and let them move at the impulse of thy love; take my feet and let them be swift and beautiful for thee, swift and beautiful for thee. Take My Life 3 Take my voice and let me sing always, only, for my King; take my lips and let them be filled with messages from thee, filled with messages from thee. 4 Take my sliver and my gold; not a mite would I withhold; take my intellect and use every power as thou shalt choose, every power as thou shalt choose. 5 Take my will and make it thine; it shall be no longer mine. Take my heart, it is thine own; it shall be thy royal throne, it shall be thy royal throne. 6 Take my love; my Lord, I pour at thy feet its treasure store; take myself and I will be ever, only, all for thee, ever, only, all for thee. *Hymn No. 459 1 O Word of God incarnate, O Wisdom from on high, O Truth unchanged, unchanging, O Light of our dark sky: we praise you for the radiance that from the hallowed page, a lantern to our footsteps, shines on from age to age. O Word of God Incarnate 2 The church from you, dear Savior, received this gift divine; and still that light is lifted on all the earth to shine. It is the chart and compass that, all life s voyage through, amid the rocks and quicksands still guides, O Christ, to you. 3 O make your church, dear Savior, a lamp of purest gold to bear before the nations your true light, as of old; O teach your wandering pilgrims by this our path to trace, till, clouds and storms thus ended, we see you face to face.
