A WORD FROM OUR PASTOR A few weeks ago, the Archdiocese announced that it was beginning Renew My Church, a process of evaluating parishes and strengthening mission vitality in our local Church. We read a letter from Cardinal Cupich at all the Masses and published his letter in our bulletin. Renew My Church is organized by parish groupings. These groupings will work to examine how they can cooperate or even consolidate to strengthen the mission of our local Church. Our grouping consists of Divine Infant, Divine Providence, St. Louise de Marillac, and St. Barbara. Even though we have not yet formally begun Renew My Church, our grouping is already looking for ways that our parishes can come together, get to know each other, and lay the groundwork for our future collaboration. One way for us to begin this process is a shared Lenten Mission that begins next week. Here is the schedule: Tuesday 14 March, 7pm at St. Barbara. Fr. Mike Ahlstrom will present The Spiritual Tools of Jesus: Prayer, Fasting & Almsgiving. Tuesday 21 March, 7pm at Divine Infant. Fr. Bill Zavaski will present Characteristics of a Contemporary Disciple. Tuesday 28 March, 7pm at St. Louise de Marillac. Lenten Reconciliation Liturgy Tuesday 04 April, 7pm at St. Louise de Marillac. Deacon Allen Tatara will present How to Listen to God in an Ear-Bud World Please mark your calendars and make every effort to join in this Mission. Not only will it be a good way to keep Lent, but it will be an excellent way to get to know the people of the parishes in our grouping and help us to get a head start on Renew My Church. Fr. Michael FR. JOYCE Fr. Joyce had surgery on Thursday at Loyola to improve his hearing on the left side. The procedure is called a cochlear implant. Hearing begins to resume in about a month. He will be very limited in his activity, sort of out of commission for a while. (I am writing this hours before the surgery. I hope that all goes well.) Please offer a prayer for recovery, although the process is slow. St. Patrick s Day, March 17, falls on a Friday this year. Cardinal Cupich has given a general dispensation to Catholics from abstaining from meat on this day. Instead, Catholics in the Archdiocese of Chicago who choose to make use of this general dispensation are asked to substitute another form of penance for the Lenten Friday abstinence. EARLY BULLETIN SCHEDULE Articles for the April 9th bulletin must be in the office by Thursday, March 30th. Articles for the April 16th bulletin must be in the office by Thursday, April 6th. Articles for the April 23rd bulletin must be in the office by Wednesday, April 12th.

SCRIPTURE STUDY Eternal Life The biblical promise of eternal life appears late in Scripture, but it blossoms into fullness with the resurrection of Jesus. Explore the growing nature of the hope of those who have called upon the God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob in the past, and the crystallization of our hope for eternal life in the victory of Jesus over death. Those with some familiarity with Scripture will find it both inspiring and informative as the hope of eternal life develops and crystallized through the sweep of salvation history. The 7 sessions will be held in the rectory basement Pine Room on Thursday evenings, 7:00-8:30 pm beginning on March 9th. The cost of the books for the series is $15.00. If you have any questions, please contact Fr. Tom (708)865-8071. I would like to be a part of the Scripture Study of the Eternal Life series. ---------------------------------------------------------------- Name Address Phone Number Study Sets will be available at the rectory THREE-PARISH LENTEN MISSION TRANSPORTATION 1. If you would like a ride to all or any part of the Mission, please contact the rectory: 865-8071 2. If you would be willing to transport those who would like a ride to all or any part of the Mission, please contact the rectory: 865-8071 Thank you!

Pre-Kindergarteners in Room 1 had special visitors. Brooke Elger's parents, Dr. Anthony Elger and Dr. Nicole Elger, DMD's came to talk to the class about dental health. The dentists talked about healthy foods, what they should or should not eat, and how to care for their teeth. Each child received a toothbrush and toothpaste. Thank you Drs. Elger. Grade 1 is working on measurement, using standard and non standard forms of measuring tools. Shown in the picture, the students are measuring objects in the room using paper clips which are the non standard units. In our SuperKids reading book, the story was about how the children were looking for projects to make on a rainy day. The First Grade students decided to make sock puppets. They worked with partners to write the script for their puppet show.

THREE-PARISH LENTEN MISSION This Lent the parishes of St. Barbara, Divine Infant and St. Louise de Marillac are joining to host a Three- Parish Lenten mission. Different speakers will give mission talks at each of the three churches. The schedule is as follows: Tuesday, March 14, at 7 p.m. at St. Barbara Church, 4008 Prairie Ave., Brookfield. Fr. Mike Ahlstrom will talk on the Spiritual Tools of Jesus: Prayer, Fasting and Almsgiving how 21 st century Catholics can use the traditional Lenten disciples in a positive way. Fr. Mike is Vicar emeritus for the deacons of the Archdiocese of Chicago and a former spiritual director at Mundelein Seminary. Tuesday, March 21, at 7 p.m. at Divine Infant Church, 1601 Newcastle Ave., Westchester. Fr. Bill Zavaski will reflect on 12 Characteristics of Discipleship Today Jesus has a lot of admirers but not so many followers. One of the real challenges for Renew My Church in the archdiocese is to encourage all parishioners to take the challenge of following Jesus seriously. This presentation will cover 12 unique and important ideas we should try to emulate to follow Jesus today as contemporary Catholics. As a disciple and follower of Jesus, we also need to pay special attention to the gospel mandate presented by Matthew, especially the 5th and 6th chapters. Being a follower of Jesus today takes courage and commitment and this presentation will try and show why and how. Fr. Bill Zavaski is currently the retired pastor from St. James in Arlington Heights. He has served at St. James and St. Zachary's as an associate. In 1979, he became the pastor of his home parish in Waukegan, St. Bartholomew s, and served there for 11 years. He then moved to Wauconda to pastor Transfiguration parish and finally came back to St. James in 1995 as pastor. He has been the dean of Lake County and the northwest suburbs and is currently a member of the priests retirement and mutual aid board and is working with new and recently ordained priests. He has been doing parish missions focusing on discipleship for the last 35 years. Tuesday, April 4, at 7 p.m. at St. Louise de Marillac Church, 1144 Harrison Ave., LaGrange Park. Deacon Allen Tatara will speak on How to Listen for God s Voice in an EarBud Wearing World we all love listening to music. In fact, 80% of us agree that music is an important part of our lives for it defines who we are and helps us tune out the rest of the world. And there is the problem: we are using our earbuds to tune out the rest of the world. This talk will help you understand why you may not be able to hear God s voice and provide you with steps you can follow to hear God speaking to you. Deacon Allen is a preacher, speaker, storyteller, musician and evangelizer. He blends storytelling, humor, audience participation, music, and deepseeded spirituality. Deacon Allen serves at St. Hubert Parish in Hoffman Estates. He has been involved with teens and young adults for more than 25 years, and works alongside his wife, Stephanie, as Youth Ministry Coordinators at the parish. Please make an effort to attend all three talks. Parishioners are encouraged to invite their family, friends and neighbors. INVITATION TO ST. JOSEPH S TABLE The St. Louise de Marillac CWO invites all friends and families of Divine Infant Parish to share a meatless, Lenten meal at our St. Joseph s Table to be held on the Feast of St. Joseph, Sunday, March 19 th, 2017, in the Colonnade Room of the school. Beginning with a blessing of the food at 11:30 am, the meal will continue until 3:30 pm. Pasta, egg dishes, salads, fruits and pastries prepared by the CWO, friends and volunteers will be served. A free-will offering is requested. For more information, please call Sue @ 708-579- 5284, Lynette @ 708-485-6949, or Denise @ 708-352-4633. St. Louise de Marillac Catholic Church is located at 30 th and Raymond, La- Grange Park, IL 60525. HELP WANTED Looking forward to the upcoming school year, Discovery Club will be looking to fill positions. We may have both before and after school hours available. Days will be flexible as well as hours. Please contact Toni at the rectory (865-8071) or Mr. G. if interested. NEW GIFTS NEEDED The 2017 New Gift Booth is already looking for items. Anything brand new, never used. Perfumes, purses, toys, clothes, crafts, tools, bath and kitchen items, and small appliances. We will pick it up or you can drop it off. Call Jeanine Dent at 681-1128.

STEWARDSHIP FOR LENT HELPING ST. VINCENT DE PAUL The Gospel reading for Ash Wednesday describes the traditional three-part Lenten exercise: prayer, fasting, and almsgiving. Jesus instructs his followers to turn to God, to turn from self-interest and to deepen their relationship with the Lord in secret. He tells them in effect that a humble and quiet pattern of prayer, self-denial and reaching out to others is transforming and leads to a favorable outcome. What is our plan to turn ever closer to God in this Lenten season? Are we prepared to treat this season as a time to deepen our own relationship with the One who redeemed us? It has been a tradition at Divine Infant Jesus Parish to donate food, paper and cleaning products, and personal products to our St. Vincent de Paul society to distribute to members of our community in need. Below are specified items that may be donated during each week of Lent. These are merely suggestions and any food product, etc., is welcome at any time. Monetary donations are always appreciated as they are used to purchase gift cards and for emergencies. Our faith is reflected most strongly in our actions to help the most vulnerable, especially those who hunger. May God continue to bless your generous hearts. THREE-PARISH LENTEN MISSION Divine Infant will host the second night of the Three-Parish Lenten Mission. Our presenter will be Fr. Bill Zavaski and his topic will be: 12 CHARACTERISTICS OF DISCIPLESHIP Today Jesus has a lot of admirers but not so many followers. This presentation will cover 12 unique and important ideas we should try to emulate to follow Jesus today as contemporary Catholics. As a disciple and follower of Jesus we also need to pay special attention to the gospel mandate presented by Matthew in his gospel especially the 5th and 6th chapters. THE JOURNEY OF TRANSFIGURATION "We used to be such good friends. How is it that you've moved so far away?" one man asked another. "Perhaps," the other replied, "you have moved away. By standing still." This exchange very well could have happened between Peter and Jesus, had Peter been allowed to erect tents to stay on the mount of the Transfiguration. He nearly succumbed to the temptation to stay in a place of wonder and light. But Jesus knew the hard truth: we are on a continual journey when we are walking the paths of God's will. It is not good for us to stay in one place on our faith journey. Equally unhealthy is staying put in times of joy and wonder to avoid life's difficulties, or to wallow in our trials and temptations and fail to be companions for our sisters and brothers who are also suffering--or celebrating! The pilgrim Church is required to do one thing on its Lenten journey: to walk continually with Christ as his Body born of water and the Spirit, seeking God's will, helping the reign of God to be known on earth, being led to the end of our journey, transfigured for all time into the company of heaven.
