Blessed Trinity Catholic Church 958 E. Tuscola St., Frankenmuth, Michigan 989-652-3259 Sixth Sunday of Easter ~ May 6, 2018 Parish Mission Statement We, the members of Blessed Trinity Parish, share a common bond of love given to us through the Mystery of the Blessed Trinity. As the loving Father does, we welcome and support everyone who enters our faith community. As His Son exemplifies, we humbly strive to be a learning, giving, caring, and teaching parish eager to serve, evangelize, and give generously of ourselves to others. As the Holy Spirit inspires and leads us, we are a faithful, prayer family that worships God through the many gifts and ministries with which the Lord has blessed us. Congratulations to our First Communicants! During the night the going got pretty rough. In the midst of their struggle - remember, they were rowing - Jesus came toward them on the water, a startling development though it meant rescue. Jesus allayed their fears with three words: It is I. Actually, it s only two, in Greek: I am. Sound familiar? These are the words God uses to identify himself at a number of places in scripture. So Jesus isn t merely saying, Don t worry, it s me. He s declaring that he is God but also that God simply is - the foundation of everything. Next time you find yourself rowing against the waves of trouble, remember you re always on solid ground with God. General Information Sacrament of Reconciliation ~ offered on Saturdays at 4:00-4:30 p.m. A special schedule of opportunities is available during Advent and Lent, or by appointment. Thank You, Volunteers The Funeral Luncheon Committee would like to give a BIG thank you to all who rose to the challenge by working or providing food for the four recent funeral luncheons we have had. It was a blessing to provide this support to our grieving families. God bless you all!

Sixth Sunday of Easter Page 3 May 6, 2018 Notes From Our Pastor Congratulations to the boys and girls who are receiving Holy Communion for the first time this weekend. This is a most special blessing for them, for their families, and for our whole parish community. We should never forget that Holy Communion is a gift from our gracious God to these children and to all of us who receive it. Holy Communion is not a reward for being perfect. We do not deserve the Bread of Life and the Cup of Salvation. It is always God s gift to us. A special thank you goes to Carol Fox, Sandi Doherty, and Jeanne Wilhelmi for helping to prepare the children this year for their celebrations of Reconciliation, Confirmation, and First Communion. Our prayers and condolences go out to Theresa and all the family and friends of Charlie Juras. We celebrated his funeral Mass at Blessed Trinity on Thursday, May 3. Charlie died on April 29 at the age of 91. Last fall I had the honor of offering a blessing for Charlie and Theresa for their 70 th wedding anniversary. May he rejoice in God s eternal peace. Thank you to all who have already responded to the Catholic Services Appeal on behalf of Blessed Trinity Parish. After five weeks of the appeal, we have received pledges and gifts from 225 parish households for a total of just over $81,000. We have almost reached our assessed target of $82,000 but we have traditionally received pledges/gifts of at least $90,000. All of the money that is paid in excess of the target is given back to Blessed Trinity for parish projects. So if your CSA pledge card is still on your table or your desk, I ask you to fill it out and return it to Blessed Trinity as soon as you can. If you have lost or misplaced your card, please contact the office and we will provide another one for you. Thank you again for such a generous response. Fr. Thank you to Fr. Bob, Sandi Doherty, and Jeanne Wilhelmi for preparing our 14 candidates to celebrate the sacraments of Reconciliation, Confirmation, and Eucharist this year. Thank you to all parents who helped their children prepare from home. Scheduled religious education sessions have ended, but families are encouraged to register their ages 4 through grade 6 children for Vacation Bible School Hero Central. This event will be held at Blessed Trinity on July 23-26. Registration forms are available in the gathering area or you can call the parish for info. Students may email their pictures taken with Flat Pope Francis during summer vacation to my address below. I scream. You scream. We all scream for ice cream! Carol Fox ~ Director of Faith Formation cfox@blessedtrinityfrankenmuth.org Do The Right Thing Sometimes you have to do what s right even in the face of opposition. Whether it s no reward at best or open hostility at worst, the world around you doesn t always approve of what you know to be the best thing. The apostles ran into the same problem - in fact, they were on both sides of it. When the religious authorities ordered them not to speak or teach in Jesus name, they refused to obey. On the other hand, when Mary Magdalene came to some of these same disciples with news of the risen Jesus, they did not believe her. Of course it s unwise to always reject what others think of you. But when faced with a difficult situation, ask God for the wisdom and the strength to do what is right and good. Habitat for Humanity Needs YOUI Help a neighbor in Buena Vista Township by getting involved with Habitat for Humanity. Can you spare a half-day or a full day helping to repair and paint homes during the week of May 17-23? Sign-up sheets will be available in the gathering area - please consider helping! Be selective with your battles. Sometimes peace is better than being right.

Sixth Sunday of Easter Page 5 May 6, 2018 Youth Ministry News Tonight/Sunday, our grades 7-12 youth are invited to celebrate Cinco De Mayo weekend and also give our 2018 BT seniors a congratulatory send off. Meet in the social hall from 6:00-8:00 p.m. for dinner and social time! Last week, our schedule was changed a bit and we ended up doing a mini-version of Cardboard City on Sunday evening. Thanks to all who attended and took part in this homelessness awareness activity. I believe all who participated learned something and became more aware of how we need to answer the call to serve. Our sophomore leaders (Nick Carter, Seth Messing, and Shiloh Kotch) will meet and choose a date in July for a Cardboard City event for all in grades 7-12. Watch for more information. Our 2018 seniors will be celebrated at our Baccalaureate Mass on Sunday, May 20 at 9:00 a.m. After Mass, our 2019 BT class will host a Meet & Greet social and the annual senior video will be shown. The Serra Club held an award ceremony on May 1 at the Horizon s Conference Center to honor youth from around the diocese who are involved in their parish and community. This year, I m happy to announce that Blessed Trinity s honorees are Courtney Aldrich and Anthony Harris. Both Courtney and Anthony are the third from their families to receive the Serra Club Award! Their commitment to faith and community is something they should be proud of. We sure are! Courtney and Anthony are awesome role models at BT and I know they will continue that commitment. Congratulations! Kathy Cramer ~ Director of Youth Ministry kcramer@blessedtrinityfrankenmuth.org Book Club News The BT Book Club read and recently discussed A Man Called One by Fredrik Backman. You ll feel new sympathy for the curmudgeons in your life after getting to know one in this story! A copy of this book is available in the parish library. Sponsor Sanctuary Lamp Parishioners are invited to make an offering for the candles used in the sanctuary lamp (the lamp that burns 24/7 before the tabernacle) which reminds us of the presence of the Risen Lord in the Blessed Sacrament that is reserved in the tabernacle. The Tuesday morning Bible Study ladies gathered for lunch at Zehnder s Restaurant last week to celebrate another completed study. Bavarian Parade Float Help Needed The Frankenmuth Bavarian Parade will be held on Sunday, June 10. Blessed Trinity will again have a float in the parade and needs you! If you have some time and would like to help build our parish float, please contact Paul Wojno at 989-751-2009 or email: pwojno55@gmail.com. We hope to begin planning and construction in mid-may. The light comes from a large candle placed in a red glass container and burns for seven days. The candle is generally replaced on Friday or Saturday each week throughout the year. If you would like to make an offering of $50.00 for these candles in honor or in memory of a family member, friend, neighbor, etc. please call the parish office to find out which weeks are available (names will be printed in the bulletin for the designated week). Donate to Local Food Pantries Please consider purchasing an extra grocery item or two for local pantries, which service families in our area. Sixth Sunday of Easter Page 7 May 6, 2018 Eucharistic Minister Formation Session The Diocese of Saginaw offers the following formation session for folks who are interested in serving as an Extraordinary Minister of Holy Communion: Saturday, June 16 at 1:00-2:30 p.m. This gathering will be held at St. John Paul II Parish (formerly St. Josaphat Church) at 469 Shattuck Rd. in Saginaw. All are welcome. Knights of Columbus Michigan Knights of Columbus councils have the opportunity twice per year to participate in the Mentally Impaired Drive, also known as the Tootsie Roll Drive. Members man various locations to collect funds that are contributed to programs that service those with special intellectual disabilities. A Tootsie Roll is offered to each contributor to show our appreciation for community cooperation. In 2017, $1,251,008.67 was collected with 389 councils participating in the program. We need you for our council to continue to provide for all we do. If you d like to be part of a group that makes a difference in society both locally and worldwide, please email: k.krause@mikofc.org. Fatherly Advice Jesus taught his disciples to pray Our Father. We are blessed in the name of the Trinity: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. Saint Joseph, the husband of Mary, was a generous and strong father who always put the well-being of Mary and Jesus first. He stands as an inspiration for parents, and he points to the kind of parental love God has for us. He is also a powerful intercessor. Catholics call Saint Joseph the patron saint of the entire church. Pray to Joseph today in your own words for the wisdom and courage to care for the people and responsibilities in your charge.
