Pope Francis has called on the global church to celebrate the New Obligatory Memorial of the Blessed Virgin Mary, Mother of the Church, on the Monday after Pentecost. To commemorate this inaugural memorial honoring Our Blessed Mother, Archbishop José H. Gomez is inviting all people of faith throughout the Archdiocese to a special Mass that he is celebrating on Monday, May 21 at noon at the Cathedral of Our Lady of the Angels in downtown Los Angeles. There will be a Crowning of the Blessed Virgin Mary Ceremony at the Mass. Faithful will be invited to write prayer intentions to Our Blessed Mother before or after the Mass. The prayer intentions will be delivered to the Basilica of Our Lady of Guadalupe in Mexico City in July as part of the annual Archdiocesan pilgrimage with Archbishop Gomez. For more information, please visit: http://www.la-archdiocese.org/pages/mary-feast-day.aspx or http://www.usccb.org/about/divine-worship/liturgical-calendar/mother-of-the-church.cfm May our Blessed Mother Mary intercede for all of us as we approach this special memorial.
