St. Anthony Catholic Church Home of the Grotto: Diocesan Shrine of Our Lady of Mount Carmel and Divine Mercy 15 Indianola Rd., Des Moines, IA 50315 ~ 515-244-4709 ~ www.stanthonydsm.org Thirtieth Sunday in Ordinary Time October 26, 2014 CONGRATULATIONS to the 8th grade volleyball team for their championship win this year! Way to go girls! St. Anthony of Padua Brief Prayer: Behold the Cross of the Lord! Begone you enemy powers. The Lion of the Tribe of Juda, the Root of David has conquered, Alleluia! Friends, This coming Thursday I will be departing on pilgrimage until the fourteenth of November. I will be leading 43 people to various shrines in Europe beginning with St. Mark s in Venice, St. Nicholas in Bari, St. Blaise in Dubrovnik, St. Paul in Athens and Malta, St. Peter in Rome to name some of the special places at which I will be remembering you in prayer. Many of the All Souls Day Novena Masses will be celebrated on pilgrimage for your loved ones. Last Thursday, I attended a meeting in Stuart with various priests to discuss the ministry of deliverance. So many of us are in need of special prayer and deliverance from the powers of addictions and dysfunctions that have the evil spirit as their source or patron. The prayer to St. Michael, the Archangel, is a wonderful prayer for daily protection against the power of the devil and other evil spirits that prowl the world for the ruin of souls. Prayer to St. Michael St. Michael, the Archangel, defend us in battle. Be our safeguard against the wickedness and snares of the devil; May God rebuke him, we humbly pray and do thou, O Prince of the Heavenly Host, by the power of God, thrust into hell Satan and all the evil spirits who wander through the world for the ruin of souls. Amen. (clip and save) Pray it daily. God bless you for a grace-filled week.

October 26, 2014 Fascinating Facts of our Faith When studying the Catholic Faith, an old saying comes to mind, Sometimes we can t see the forest for the trees. There are so many beautiful things about the Catholic Faith it is difficult to appreciate each of them unless they are examined individually. So, let s begin by exploring our faith by the numbers beginning with the number 10 and working down. The Ten Commandments; Nine ways we can be an accessory to another s sin, Eight Beatitudes, Seven s, Seven gifts of the Holy Ghost, Seven Deadly Sins, Six Commandments of the Church, Six Sins against the Holy Ghost, Five ways of committing sins, Four reasons for going to Mass and Four last things to remember, Three Theological virtues, Three persons in one God (The Blessed Trinity), Two kinds of sin and Two kinds of grace, One True Faith. Before we begin exploring, it is important to know and understand that God loves man more than man can ever love God and more than man can even love himself. Example: Man will do things to harm himself, harm and offend others and offend God. God would never harm or offend man. Man will make then break promises to himself others and to God. God will never break His promise to man. Man is sometimes reluctant to forgive. God is always ready to forgive!! In next week s bulletin: Our Journey Begins AROUND THE DIOCESE Challenge is a club for girls to grow in virtue, friendship, and their Catholic faith.
