MINISTRY SIGN-UP CALENDAR FOR THE MONTH OF OCTOBER NOW IN THE SACRISTY Dear ministry members, please take time to stop by the Sacristy and sigh up for the month of OCTOBER. Ministry Calendar September 2016 HOLY FATHER S PRAYER INTENTIONS FOR SEPTEMBER Universal: Centrality of the Human Person That each may contribute to the common good and to the building of a society that places the human person at the center. Evangelization: Mission to Evangelize That by participating in the Sacraments and meditating on Scripture, Christians may become more aware of their mission to evangelize. http://apostleshipofprayer.org WHAT DID FR. LARRY SAY? LITTLE FLOWERS GROUP Are you looking for a way to meet new friends, learn more about our Catholic faith, the saints, and virtues all while earning badges? Then look no further, Little Flowers is for you! There are 4 different wreaths, I will be leading Wreath 2 this year. If a Mom is interested in leading a different wreath, I would love to meet with you and work together, its really easy and fun! The wreaths are not necessarily cumulative so you don't have to have done the first wreath to do Wreath 2. The cost is low and there is no fundraising or selling involved. If you have questions or are interested, please contact me, Mrs. Krysten Pizzurro at krystbenjamin@yahoo.com Whoever does not carry his own cross and come after me cannot be my disciple. We worry about so many things in today s world, and it s so easy to get distracted and side-tracked. As we begin the school year again, it s so important for us to help our young people to focus. Young people especially seem to have so many pressures and worries, that not only does it become unhealthy physically, but it can become unhealthy spiritually. It s important that we work hard, yes, and it s important that we be prepared for the future, yes, and that we are able to support our families. But there is something even more important to remember in life: that there are some things over which we have no control. Who does have control? The simple answer is: God. But if we stop there, we re taking the easy way out. If anything goes wrong in my life, then it must be God s fault, right? Wrong! God gives us life and gives us the strength to do what we need to do, if we hold on to him. That seems like a strange kind of control: a God who is in control, but who gives over to us human beings the exercise of that control in so many ways. It s that old Free-Will thing. When it comes down to it, if we try to do it all ourselves, we will fail. If we sit back and do nothing, and expect God to do it all, we will fail. We need God s help, and we need other people s help. We must also take time to step back occasionally, take a deep breath once in a while and just slow down. I worry sometimes about many of our young people in today s society. They seem so weighed down by the world. Some have constant frowns on their faces. The potential for a happy life, an exciting and productive life, is out there. God has given his gifts, but we have to open up and let the world and the Creator of that world in, with all its joys and all its conflicts and pains. Then we can deal with them: the good, the bad, as well as the ugly. But if we stay wrapped in a personal cocoon trying to avoid life, then we will go nowhere. We have to let go and let God and life in. The scriptures say: Seek the Lord while he may be found, call him while he is near. Ask God for help sorting through all the distractions. Look for, and recognize, the gifts within, and then use them to grow and prosper. It s never too late. We can never be totally sure every moment if we ve made the right decisions, but with God s help, we can, at least, be on the right track. Fr. Larry Smith S.J.
