Engage, Encourage, Empower Many Christian s are unaware that they live in a nation that has a law in place requiring that our President proclaim a National Day of Prayer each year on the first Thursday in May. The President shall issue each year a proclamation designating the first Thursday in May as a National Day of Prayer on which the people of the United States may turn to God in prayer and meditation at churches, in groups, and as individuals. (Public Law 105-225) As citizens and residents of the United States and as believers in Christ Jesus, we not only have a spiritual responsibility according to 1 Timothy 2:1-2 to pray, but a civic duty as well to heed our President s call to stand in the gap for our nation. Who but God s people have the ability to enter into the very throne room of Heaven with prayers and petitions! Our theme this year is, For Your Great Name s Sake! Hear Us... Forgive Us...Heal Us!, Taken from Daniel 9:19, which says, O Lord, Listen! O Lord, Forgive! O Lord, Hear and Act! For Your Sake, O My God.... As the 2017 National Day of Prayer on May 4th approaches, thousands of individuals, churches, and communities will be working to rally millions of Christian s to once again heed this call. Scripture tells us again and again that our fervent prayer is effective. That our loving God responds to His childrens earnest pleas in mighty ways that avail much, and ultimately determine the course of history. Step One Develop Your Plan We ve created this step-by-step guide to help you and your church congregations promote the annual National Day of Prayer in your local communities. Whether you hold one large event, or multiple, smaller events, we have numerous tools and resources available to assist you. Appoint a coordinator to head up planning and promotion. Assemble a prayer team to support the event or emphasis with prayer. Together, create a calendar and determine the dates, as well as the times and locations for your NDP event or any additional supplemental classes on prayer. Four weeks of sermon/teaching outlines are available, as well as curriculum for small groups or classes. Other ideas are available on our event page as well. Step Two Promote Your Event When promoting in local churches, Sunday mornings is your best time. Posters, bulletin or program covers, bulletin inserts, a PowerPoint slide, graphics, and announcement copy are available through our web shop or for download. Step Three Host Your Event Leading up to the event, communicate directly each week with your groups or congregations by email and social media to invite them and remind them of the event/class taking place. Host your National Day of Prayer Event and gather feedback and testimonies that can then be shared with members of your community or church to encourage them to continue on in prayer. God is sovereign and nothing comes as a surprise to Him. Whether we face fluctuating economics, threats from abroad, unrest at home, or other troubling circumstances, our Heavenly Father is not caught unaware. Through prayer, we are able to tap into His wisdom, strength, protection, and peace. He stands ready to respond to our needs when we humbly ask for divine intervention in the affairs of men. As we Pray for America whose pledge of allegiance recounts that we are one nation under God, and whose currency states that it is in God we trust, we want Americans to encounter the God who rules over their country. He who forms the mountains, creates the wind, and reveals His thoughts to man, He who turns dawn to darkness, and treads the high places of the earth the LORD God Almighty is His name. Amos 4:13 NIV He is the One who gave us this promise in 2 Chronicles 7:14: If my people, who are called by My name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven and will forgive their sin and will heal their land. As we humbly and diligently seek Him, we ll be changed, and we ll see transformation in America through prayer! PRAISE Thank God for what He has already accomplished through Jesus. REPENT Confess your sins and shortcomings. Repent personally and on behalf of our nation. The Lord is quick to forgive when we come humbly to Him. ASK Ask God to reveal truth, turn our hearts back toward Him, and bring healing. YIELD Yield to the Lord and recognize that He has heard our prayers and will answer according to His will. He is ready to provide guidance and direction.
