#4:...but it is the only thing that can completely heal. #1: It repulses every human sense... #2:...yet it draws us like a magnet. #3: Though it killed a man... #4:...it can bring all men eternal life. #1: The original is long gone... #2:...but nothing will ever destroy it. #3: It is a historical marker... #4:...but its history is unimportant. #1: There have been millions of replicas made of it... #2:...yet no one can ever duplicate it. #3: It held the body of the only natural-born Son of God. #4: And it was His blood smeared upon it that has ushered us into the presence of the Almighty. #1: Let us never forget its power... #2:...its bold statement about eternity. #3: May it always remind us of the boundless love of God Himself. #4: The cross! Oh, that we would all look to it as a sacred reminder of the price Jesus paid for our disobedience and self-reliance! #1: And may we cherish it... #2: may we cling to it #3: in humble adoration of the King of Kings #4:...Jesus Christ...our Lord, our Savior, our Redeemer! GOD S GREATNESS Our God / How Great Thou Art / Mighty Redeemer Agnus Dei (Smith) God of Wonders (Byrd, Hindalong) Great Is the Lord (Smith) How Great Is Our God (Cash, Reeves, Tomlin) I Stand in Awe (Altrogge) Majesty (Hayford) Our God Reigns (L. Smith, Jr.) What a Mighty God We Serve Have a child or children recite this prayer. God is great, God is good; Let us thank Him for our food. By His hands we all are fed, Give us, Lord, our daily bread. This is a prayer we taught our children to say at the dinner table. Though this is a statement of thanksgiving and request, it is also a proclamation that we may overlook. God is great. God is good. Always great. Always good. Psalm 86, a prayer from David, says: Lord, there is no one like You among the gods, and there are no works like Yours. All the nations You have made will come and bow down before You, Lord, and will honor Your name. For You are great and perform wonders; You alone are God (Psalm 86:8-10, HCSB). Other Scriptures about God s Greatness Psalm 145:1-13 (may be used as a responsive reading) 1 Chronicles 16:25 Psalm 135:5 Scripture quotation marked HCSB is taken from the Holman Christian Standard Bible, Copyright 1999, 2000, 2002, 2003, 2009 by Holman Bible Publishers. GOD S LOVE Good Good Father / How Deep the Father s Love for Us / O What Love Come, Thou Fount of Every Blessing I Could Sing of Your Love Forever (Smith) Love Is the Theme Love Lifted Me O Love That Will Not Let Me Go The Love of God There Is None Like You (LeBlanc) Think About His Love (Harrah) Worship leader may read the following adaptation of an excerpt from Robert Coleman s book Written in Blood *. Doc, When Do I Die? In his book Written in Blood, Robert Coleman tells the story of a little boy whose sister needed a blood transfusion. She had a rare blood type, which she shared with her little brother. The fact that he recovered from the same disease two years earlier made the chances of success even greater. The doctor carefully explained this to the little boy, pointing out that, without the transfusion, his sister would die. Would you be brave and give your blood to your sister? the doctor asked. Johnny hesitated. His lower lip began to tremble. Then he smiled and said, Sure, for my sister. The two children were wheeled into the hospital room: Mary, pale and thin; Johnny, robust and healthy. He smiled at his sister, and he watched as the blood traveled out of his body, down the clear plastic tube. Johnny s smile faded, and as he lay there feeling weak, he looked up at the doctor and said, Doctor, when do I die? Johnny thought that giving his blood to his sister meant giving up his life. Yet because of his great love for her, he was prepared to pay the price. * Robert Emerson Coleman. Written in Blood: A Devotional Bible Study of the Blood of Christ. (Old Tappan, NJ: Fleming H. Revell Company, 1972.) Sunday Worship Medleys Supplemental Material 8

Follow up with this Scripture reading from Romans 5:6-8: For while we were still helpless, at the appointed moment, Christ died for the ungodly. For rarely will someone die for a just person though for a good person perhaps someone might even dare to die. But God proves His own love for us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us! (HCSB). ** Read from other Scripture Passages Psalm 52:8 Psalm 89:1 Romans 5:5 Ephesians 3:18 1 John 3:1 ** Scripture quotation marked HCSB is taken from the Holman Christian Standard Bible, Copyright 1999, 2000, 2002, 2003, 2009 by Holman Bible Publishers. GRACE Amazing Grace! How Sweet the Sound / This Is Amazing Grace / Your Grace Still Amazes Me Amazing Grace (My Chains Are Gone) (Giglio, Newton, Tomlin) God of Grace and God of Glory Grace Alone Grace Greater than Our Sin He Giveth More Grace There Shall Be Showers of Blessing (Brown, Nelson) Worship leader may read the following aloud. The author, John Newton, lived much of his life as a hardened slave trader. But one day he recognized and accepted the undeserved favor of God. It forever changed his life and those of us who have read his story and sung his songs. In his final years, Newton was considering retiring from the pastorate that he held many years in a church in London. Finally, in failing health, he is reported to have said: My memory is nearly gone, but I remember two things: that I am a great sinner, and that Christ is a great Savior. He penned the greatest hymn ever written: Amazing Grace! How Sweet the Sound. Read the following Scriptures aloud. Ephesians 2:1-10 2 Timothy 1:9 Titus 3:4-7 Sunday Worship Medleys Supplemental Material 10

HOPE Cornerstone / In Christ Alone (My Hope Is Found) / Come, Behold the Wondrous Mystery And Can It Be Blessed Assurance, Jesus Is Mine Day by Day Firm Foundation In Times like These It Is Well with My Soul Jesus, Only Jesus (Nockels, Redman, Stanfill, Tomlin, Wood) Mighty to Save (Fielding, Morgan) O God, Our Help in Ages Past The Church s One Foundation The Solid Rock The following is a reading that can be delivered from the pulpit, or it may be written in a worship guide for the congregation. Hope is a four-letter word that has profound meaning to the believer. But hope is not just expectations and desires, as the world might see it; hope includes trust, confidence, and refuge in God. Hope is the certainty that what God has done for us in the past, He will do in the future. Jesus Himself was called hope the hope of glory. He is our blessed hope, which through His resurrection has become a living hope. The writer of Hebrews says, We have this hope as an anchor for our lives, safe and secure (Hebrews 6:19, HCSB). Scripture quotation marked HCSB is taken from the Holman Christian Standard Bible, Copyright 1999, 2000, 2002, 2003, 2009 by Holman Bible Publishers. Used by permission. Until the Whole World Hears (Casting Crowns) The following may be delivered as a reader s theater or as a monologue. When it comes to reaching a lost world for Christ, do you wonder how far we ve come and how much farther we have to go? Today there are 1.7 billion people in the world with little or no access to the gospel. It sounds overwhelming. It sounds impossible. But we ve still got to do it because Jesus told us to. He said, Go and make disciples of all nations (Matthew 28:19, HCSB). For everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved (Romans 10:13, HCSB). Sunday Worship Medleys Supplemental Material 14

But how can they call on Him they have not believed in? And how can they believe without hearing about Him? And how can they hear without a preacher? And how can they preach unless they are sent? (Romans 10:14-15, HCSB). Then who will go? Who will God send to tell the world? Here am I. Send me. Create your own reading from the following Scripture passages. Mark 16:15 Matthew 28:19-20 Romans 1:14-17 Romans 10:10-17 Isaiah 6:8 Scripture quotations marked HCSB are taken from the Holman Christian Standard Bible, Copyright 1999, 2000, 2002, 2003, 2009 by Holman Bible Publishers. It is holy and powerful and awe-inspiring. It casts out demons, raises the dead, lifts up the fallen, and grants salvation and entrance into heaven. It is eternal. It is His name. His name is Jesus.
