Welcome to Northbrook Presbyterian Church April 9, 2017 Palm Sunday We are glad you re here and thankful for the opportunity to worship with you and to share the Good News of Jesus Christ. We seek to be an open, rational and compassionate people, learning each week what it means to live the love of Jesus Christ in worship and work, in word and deed. Everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you have love for one another. ~ John 13:35 LIFE IN THE COMMUNITY OF FAITH Please sign and pass the Welcome Register along your row and back. Please note joys and concerns on the Prayer Request Cards and place them in the offering. CALL TO WORSHIP Clyde Pritchard One: Jesus approached the towns of Bethphage and Bethany, which are near Mount Olivet. He sent two of the disciples ahead, saying: Go to the next village. When you enter, you will find a colt tied a colt that has never been ridden before. Untie it and bring it here. If anyone asks you why you re untying it, just say, The Lord needs it. So the two disciples found things just as He had told them. When its owners did indeed ask why they were untying the colt, the disciples answered as they had been instructed: All: The Lord needs it.

One: They brought the colt to Jesus, threw their coats on the colt s back, and then sat Jesus on it. As Jesus rode along, some people began to spread their garments on the road as a carpet. When they passed the crest of Mount Olivet and began descending toward Jerusalem, a huge crowd of disciples began to celebrate and praise God with loud shouts, glorifying God for the mighty works they had witnessed. All: The King who comes in the name of the Eternal One is blessed! Peace in heaven! Glory in the highest! * OPENING SONG 196 All Glory, Laud and Honor Hymnal UNISON PRAYER FOR FORGIVENESS One: One day, we are crying to God, "save us," the next we are turning our backs on God and walking away. Despite our fickle nature, God is steadfast in loving us and constant in forgiving us. Let us confess to our God, as we pray, All: With joy in our hearts, we welcome your servant, O God, only to reject him when he picks up a cross instead of a crown. Like cloaks laid on the ground before Jesus, we pick up our faith, dust it off and put it back in the closet until we need it. We can be as stubborn and rebellious as the city which cheers your name. Save us, Redeeming God, save us! May we lay our doubts, our fears, our worries, our weariness at your feet, trusting and believing that you will forgive what is sinful, make whole our brokenness, and welcome us as sisters and brothers of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. Silent reflection ASSURANCE OF PARDON One: Hosanna to David's Son! Blessed is the One who comes in God's name, not to judge us, but to save us. All: In gratitude to God, we shout out together Hosanna in the highest! Amen! * THE PEACE As we are reconciled to God and to one another, share a sign of Christ s peace with your neighbor. There is no KIDS Connection today. However nursery care is available. * RESPONSE OF PRAISE This is the Day Natalie Sleeth Angel s Angels

BUNNY BRUNCH TODAY AFTER WORSHIP Please join us after worship for our annual Bunny Brunch in Fellowship Hall! During this time, the children, toddlers thru 5th grade, will be invited to participate in an egg hunt outdoors. Egg collection bags, treats and brunch will be provided, free of charge to all, by the Children's Ministry Committee. We encourage all members and their families to stay for this fun event. SPIRITUALITY CENTER AND PRAYER LABYRINTH During Holy Week, we invite you to visit the Spirituality Center and prayer labyrinth in Fellowship Hall. In this peaceful space, dedicate time to coloring big posters depicting the Stations of the Cross. Using brand new boxes of crayons, come and color these ready-made posters, read the Biblical story and think about the events that took place during Holy Week. In addition, walk the prayer labyrinth, journal, create or just be still. The labyrinth is a place where you can release stress, pray, bring your grief or a question, find healing or participate in a walking meditation that quiets your mind allowing your spirit to become more receptive to the still small voice of God. If you are new to the labyrinth there will be an information sheet to guide you on your walk. There is no right or wrong way to walk. Just come and put one foot in front of the other. Sherrill Heinrichs will also be available to introduce you to the labyrinth. Just give her a call at the church and let her know when you would want to meet. The prayer labyrinth and spirituality center will be open from April 10 through April 14 as follows: Monday Wednesday: 9 a.m.-7 p.m. Thursday: 9 a.m.-4 p.m. and again at 6 pm before the Holy Thursday service and then afterwards Friday: 9 a.m.-11:00 a.m. before the Good Friday service ONE GREAT HOUR OF SHARING (OGHS) OFFERING DURING LENT Each gift to One Great Hour of Sharing helps to improve the lives of people around the world. Our offering provides us a way to share God s love with our neighbors in need. We are able to make a positive, meaningful difference in the world through three impactful programs: Presbyterian Disaster Assistance, The Presbyterian Hunger Program and Self-Development of People. We can live the love of Jesus Christ with our gifts to help those who lack access to sustainable food sources, clean water, sanitation, education and opportunity and to those who face the aftermath of a disaster. Please give generously using your OGHS envelope in your offering envelope pad or with the giving envelopes found in the pew. If you write a check, please note that your offering is for OGHS on the notation line of your check and/or OGHS on your giving envelope. A portion of your OGHS gift stays with Northbrook to support our mission programs. MEN S CONNECTION Men s Connection will not meet on Thursday, April 13.
