My dear brothers and sisters in Christ From the desk of Father James today we enter into the most holiest of weeks in the year. We often might say the holiest of weeks in the Church year, but whether we look at this day from the Church s liturgical perspective (Advent (December) to Christ the King (November), the Civil perspective of January to January or we look at our fiscal year which runs from July to July, this upcoming week IS THE HOLIEST WEEK OF THE EN- TIRE YEAR. Let us pray that our days during the season of Lent have put our souls into the proper disposition to fully embrace the blessings and graces that flow into our hearts and lives... Palm Sunday of the Lord s Passion this Sunday we begin our celebration hearing proclaimed the story about Jesus entering the temple, how all the people cry out, Hosanna in the Highest! Hosanna to the Son of David! Yet, this joy is soon turned into great sadness as the soldiers come while Jesus is in the garden praying to arrest him. This incident triggers a series of events to take place that ultimately leads us to witness Jesus last earthly breath Holy Thursday this Thursday at 7:00 pm, March 29 we gather here in the church to celebrate the Mass of the Lord s Supper. The institution of the Eucharist, where Jesus gives us His sacred Body and Blood, so that we can be brought more deeply into the Mystical Body of Christ. We also see in the action of the priest Washing the Feet of our brothers and sisters from our community, the example of how each and every one of us is called to serve our brothers and sisters with humility and love. Concluding this first part of the Sacred Triduum, the Blessed Sacrament, that has been reserved for distribution to the dying and for communion during the Good Friday Liturgy, will be transferred from the Church to an altar of repose that we have located in the Parish Center. Please plan to spend a bit of time in prayer with Jesus before departing for the evening Good Friday on Friday, March 30 at noon, we with gather for the traditional Lenten devotion of the Station of the Cross, I will lead a group in the church and Deacon Bill will lead a group outside. We will gather as a community for the Good Friday Liturgy at 7:00 pm in the Church, where we will again hear the reading of the Passion of Jesus, this time from John s perspective. We will take time to venerate the cross, the cross which lifted high the Savior of the world, the Savior which died, so that we might have eternal life. We will also have the opportunity to receive Holy Communion. This is the only day in the year in which there are no Masses celebrated in the Church Holy Saturday is an extremely quiet day in our Church. Our Lord has been laid in the tomb. I am always amazed at how still the world seems to be this day. Maybe not at a cursory glance, but we have to listen and look more closely. Everything is still as we wait for the Lord to rise from the dead. We gather Saturday evening at 8:30 pm and begin this great vigil with the Liturgy of Light, where we light the Easter Candle and begin our great vigil into the night, anticipating His resurrection. We hear the ancient story of our salvation history and we culminate this night by welcoming two men that have been preparing for this day for a very long time into full communion in the Catholic Church EASTER He is Risen! Alleluia! He is Risen indeed! Alleluia! Alleluia!... **A reminder that on Easter Sunday, we will only have Mass at 8:00 am and 10:30 am. There is NO 5:00 pm Mass on Easter Sunday** I would invite and encourage all of you to join us on this amazing journey through these liturgies that make up the Triduum, the three most important days in our Church year!! Blessings to you and your family as we enter into Holy Week 2018! 3

BOOK-OF-THE-MONTH Soon we will celebrate the great feast of Pentecost celebrating the descent of the Holy Spirit and marking the birthday of the Church. The first in our Book-of-the-Month series is The Holy Spirit, Fire of Divine Love Fr. Wilfrid Stinessen Ignatius Press ISBN# 9781621641117 Acclaimed spiritual writer Fr. Wilfrid Stinessen presents insightful reflections on the Holy Spirit, the Third Person of the Blessed Trinity, emphasizing the importance of the Spirit in the life of a Christian. He illustrates that the Holy Spirit desires to live in us so that we can love God and others with God s own love. As the Holy Spirit descended upon the early Church at Pentecost to set the world ablaze with the fire of divine love, so He wants to do with us. Available through CatholicCompany.com Questions? Care Ministry Grief Share Grief Share is a 13 week grief support group that is facilitated by lay ministers. We are starting a group at St. Francis that will be led by Jennifer Mirek and Stephen Ministers. Grief Share is a Christian based program used by churches all over the country. Each week, we will view a video clip about a topic essential to recovering from the hurt of grief and loss. A group discussion about the video, as well as a general support time, follows. Each participant also receives a workbook with a daily Bible study, grief processing tips, exercises, helpful articles and resources. Please feel free to join us if you have experienced a loss of a family member or friend through death, no matter when the loss occurred. We will meet on Mondays (April 2-June 25): 6:30-8:30 pm in the south classroom of the parish center. The cost is $15 for the workbook. Please call Jennifer Mirek in the parish office with any questions or to register. Weekly topics: Is This Normal? Challenges of Grief The Journey of Grief (Part 1 and 2) Grief and Your Relationships Why? Guilt and Anger Complicating Factors Stuck Lessons of Grief (Part 1 and 2) Heaven What Do I Live for Now? The Gift of Years: Growing Older Gracefully Discussion Group Donna Vande Kieft is a Board Certified Hospice Chaplain who lives in Sherwood. She is a volunteer coach for Strong for Life at St. Francis and also volunteers at the Sherwood Senior Center. She loves working with seniors and is interested in aging gracefully herself and welcomes others to join the conversation on the Aging Journey. She is facilitating a discussion group around Sister Joan Chittister's book, The Gift of Years. The group will meet from 11:00-noon on Fridays, April 6-May 25 in the parish center south classroom. Please RSVP to Jennifer Mirek in the parish office if you are interested in joining the group. Please purchase the book prior to the first group meeting, if possible. Amazon has new and used copies. Respect Life Since the Lord wanted to undergo death in full knowledge, the Christian desires to imitate Him in that. The Church asks that the dying should not be deprived of consciousness if possible, so that they can make peace with God, say a last prayer and last words to loved ones, etc. To frustrate them is an act repugnant to Christian sentiments. It is even simply inhumane." ~Pope Pius XII, 1957 Catholic Corner Does the seal of confession oblige anyone other than the priest? The seal of confession strictly obliges anyone who may accidentally overhear or come to know matters dealt with in the confession of another person. St. Paul Family Catechism. Next Week: Is it ever permitted to read the letters or private writings of others? Logo Committee Logos have long been a key element of marketing for schools, and are becoming more essential for churches as well. Recognizing our need to update the current school logo, Fr. James has commissioned a committee that will provide direction for a new logo, one which unifies both the school and parish, and that will help us move forward together into this next century, and beyond. This will be a unique logo that represents both the church and school. As such, the committee is composed of members of both the school and church: Fr. James Hererra, Parish Administrator Mr. K.C. Wilson, BS degree and 30+ years experience in graphic design; parishioner for 25 years; usher, Knights of Columbus, Hope Shelter, et al. Mr. Keith Blau, retired music teacher; parishioner for 49 years; Parish Pastoral Council, et al. Mr. Will Summer, School Principal Mrs. Leanne Contreras, BS degree in marketing & organizational management; parishioner for 4 years; Parent Service Organization President; School Advisory Council; SAC Marketing Committee; Auction Committee, et al. Mrs. Sally Green, BA degree in art; teaching certifications in art and P.E. teacher; 13 years at St. Francis School We have begun working with the Archdiocese's Office of Communications and their Creative Director (and graphic designer), and are on track to complete our goal to present a new logo to the parish in May. 6
