Fourth Sunday of Advent

Sunday Collection 2016: December 11th - $7,410.50 2015: December 13th - $9,257.50 God Blesses the generous giver! Fr. Al, Pastor SUMMONED BY GOD As Christmas draws near, Advent's Scriptures lure us into a world of dreams, signs, wonders, and the miracle of the virgin birth. Too often we allow the great stories of our faith, the ones that are most familiar, simply to wash over us. Today's Gospel account of the events leading up to the birth of the Lord reads like a present-day soap opera. Yet Joseph 's courage, even in the midst of what must have been an incredibly confusing time, provides a model for us. Each week, we are summoned by God to embrace the way of goodness and truth through the proclamation of God's holy word. Like Joseph, we are called to do as the Lord commands us. As we stand at the threshold of Christmas, let us have the courage to be open to whatever it is that the Lord will require of us as we celebrate the miracle of Bethlehem. TODAY S READINGS First Reading You will be given this sign: the virgin shall conceive and bear a son, and shall name him Emmanuel (Isaiah 7:10-14). Psalm Let the Lord enter; he is king of glory (Psalm 24). Second Reading God has called us to belong to Jesus Christ (Romans 1:1-7). Gospel The son born of Mary shall be called Jesus, for he will save his people from their sins. He shall be Emmanuel, God is with us (Matthew 1:18-24). Scrip are gift cards you can purchase for a variety of local stores, restaurants, hotels, etc. You can buy these gift cards at no extra cost and use them just as you would cash. Why should I purchase Scrip? By purchasing Scrip, you earn a percentage of your tuition at Catholic grade schools, high schools, colleges, and universities. If you have a student in a Catholic school, you can set up an account for your child. If you don t have a student in school, you can still open an account, purchase Scrip gift cards, and have your credit placed in a general fund for a given school. The money in this fund will be used to help students in need of tuition assistance. How do I get my tuition credits and what do I do with them? Ask the parish to cut you a tuition check payable to the school and bring the check to the tuition office your tuition balance will be credited. Where can I buy Scrip? Many neighboring parishes in the area sell Scrip cards, including Presentation BVM, St. Matthew, St. Martin of Tours, St. Hilary, St. Jerome, and Maternity BVM. Contact these parishes directly to set up your account. Then buy your gift cards, go shopping, and support Catholic education! so Is this worth my time? Definitely! You could accumulate hundreds of dollars in tuition credit. Give it a try. You can also ask family members, friends, and fellow parishioners to set up accounts in their own parishes if they offer scrip. Thank you for supporting Catholic education by using Scrip! Fr. Al

St. William s Christmas Tree Children and families are asked to bring homemade or traditional ornaments to decorate the Parish tree on Saturday and Sunday Dec 17 th and 18 th after Communion. God bless our newly baptized members! Samuel Luis Crespo Mallory Ward How do I spend a visit before Jesus in the Blessed Sacrament? You can just look upon Him with love. It is a good time to listen to God, to be filled with His grace. Some people bring prayer books, read the Bible, pray the rosary, or just sit, relax, and enjoy the peace that comes from simply being in the presence of God. Taking the time the spend with Jesus is in itself a prayer of great faith. Prepare to receive the graces and the blessing this devotion offers. Contact the Rectory at (215) 745-1389 or office@churchofstwilliam.com or the access code to our adoration chapel. CUARTO DOMINGO DE ADVIENTO " EL HIJO DE MARIA, VIENE POR OBRA DEL ESPÍRITU SANTO ".
