Noah Part 2 Noah was blameless in his generation by Victor Torres Last week, we read through the story of Noah. Starting today, we will go through the story in detail, and Lord willing, learn the spiritual lessons behind this story and also answer your questions. Gen 6:1 When man began to multiply on the face of the land and daughters were born to them, Gen 6:2 the sons of God saw that the daughters of man were attractive. And they took as their wives any they chose. Gen 6:3 And the LORD said, My spirit shall not always strive with man, for that he also is flesh: yet his days shall be an hundred and twenty years. Gen 6:4 There were giants in the earth in those days; and also after that, when the sons of God came in unto the daughters of men, and they bare children to them, the same became mighty men which were of old, men of renown. Gen 6:5 The LORD saw that the wickedness of man was great in the earth, and that every intention of the thoughts of his heart was only evil continually. (Kid Q) In Genesis 6:5 God says that every intention of the thoughts of man's heart is evil continually...does this mean that no one is nice? And doesn't this mean that Noah's thoughts were evil too? And if so why did God save Noah and his family but drowned everyone else? Is Gen 6:5 saying no one is nice? Here's the definition of nice : pleasant agreeable satisfactory. So we can rephrase this question to: Does God find anyone pleasant, agreeable or satisfactory? Is anyone pleasant or good to God? Rom 7:18 For I know that in me (that is, in my flesh) dwells no good thing... This flesh and blood that we are born with is not pleasant in the eyes of God. The apostle Paul wrote above that he knows that in his flesh, there is no good thing.
Did our Lord Jesus Christ agree with that? Here is what He said when He was still in flesh and blood, the same one that we have: Luk 18:19 And Jesus said to him, Why do you say that I am good? No one is good, but only God. So even our Lord Jesus Christ knew that the flesh and blood that He was given is not pleasant or nice to His Father. Is anyone agreeable to God? Gal 5:17 For the desires of the flesh are against the Spirit, and the desires of the Spirit are against the flesh, for these are opposed to each other, to keep you from doing the things you want to do. The Spirit does not agree with what the flesh wants. And the flesh does not agree with what the Spirit wants. These are opposed to each other. This means that as long as we are in this sinful flesh, we have to always fight with and not give in to the things that it wants. Is anyone satisfactory to God? Rom 3:10 As it is written, There is none righteous, no, not one: Rom 3:23 for all have sinned and come short of the glory of God, So the answer to the question is yes, Gen 6:5 means no one is nice. No one is pleasant, no one is agreeable or satisfactory ( all come short ) in the eyes of God. Gen 6:5 The LORD saw that the wickedness of man [mankind] was great in the earth, and that every intention of the thoughts of his [mankind's] heart was only evil continually. As we have learned from previous studies, we are all born in this sinful flesh, out of the ground, no good thing is in us. And doesn't this mean that Noah's thoughts were evil too? Yes, that means Noah's thoughts were evil too. Eph 2:2 in which you once walked according to the course of this world, according to the prince of the power of the air, the spirit that now works in the children of disobedience;
Noah, like every chosen people of God, also once walked according to the course of this world, meaning we all followed the ways of this world. We all walked according to the prince of the power of the air, meaning we all obeyed Satan. We are also told that this evil spirit, Satan, now works in the children of disobedience. So when you disobey God or your parents, you are a child of disobedience. This means Satan is working in you! Eph 2:3 among whom we also had our way of life in times past, in the lusts of our flesh, fulfilling the desires of the flesh and of the thoughts, and were by nature the children of wrath, even as others. Noah in times past, also fulfilled the desire of his flesh where no good thing dwells. He also fulfilled the desires of his evil thoughts. We know they're evil thoughts because they are dominated by Satan, the prince of the power of the air. Noah, like every single one of us, are by nature the children of wrath (God's anger) even as others. Eph 2:3. and were by nature the children of wrath, even as others. Why do you think God has inspired that phrase even as others to be written? He did that so that no one can say they are good or nice by nature. We are all by nature, even the elect, in Adam, even as others. And if so why did God save Noah and his family but drowned everyone else? So if we are all by nature, unpleasant to God, even Noah, why did God save him and his family but drowned everyone else? The answer to that question is something that many Christians don't believe, and even hate. This is God's answer to that question: Rom 9:15 For He said to Moses, "I will have mercy on whom I will have mercy, and I will have compassion on whom I will have compassion." Rom 9:16 So then it is not of the one willing, nor of the one running, but of God, the One showing mercy. Why do I say many Christians don't believe and even hate that answer?
Because they believe in free will. To them it is because they're the one willing to join their church, it's not God showing mercy. To them it is because they're the one running, or serving the Lord, it's not God showing mercy that will save them. As you grow up, you will meet these kinds of people who thinks above what is written. 1Co 4:6...so that you might learn in us not to think above that which is written, so that no one of you may be puffed up against one another. You need to show these people what is written on who really saved Noah, and who will really save them: Rom 9:16 So then it is not of the one willing, nor of the one running, but of God, the One showing mercy. It is God showing mercy that saved Noah and his family. God will also show mercy to the rest of the world, including those He drowned in the time of Noah. That is because it is He Himself who shut up all those people in unbelief: Rom 11:32 For God has shut up all in unbelief, so that He might show mercy to all Don't believe people who tells you that you choose whether you will get saved or not. The Lord will save all of mankind as I have shown you many Scriptures that says this Truth. I have also taught you that He will save those who are in Christ first, in the first resurrection. But after that He will save the rest of mankind in the second resurrection. Am I telling you that you can now disobey God because He will save you anyway? Absolutely NOT! 1Co 3:13 each one's work shall be revealed. For the Day shall declare it, because it shall be revealed by fire; and the fire shall try each one's work as to what kind it is. Each one's work shall be revealed means all the things that you did will be revealed. Fire shall try each one's work as to what kind it is that fire is the word of God, and all your works will be compared to the word of God to see what
kind it is. 1Co 3:14 If anyone's work which he built remains, he shall receive a reward. If your works are according to God's words (it remains), then you shall receive a reward. You will be in that holy and blessed first resurrection and you will enjoy the fruit of the Spirit first: Gal 5:22-23 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, meekness, temperance... But if your works are burned up, meaning they do not follow the words of God: 1Co 3:15 If anyone's work shall be burned up, he shall suffer loss... Everyone in the second resurrection will suffer. They will suffer the loss of everything that was more important to them than obeying God. 1Co 3:15... But he shall be saved, yet so as by fire. But they will still be saved, by the same fire [God's word] that they suffered from. The Lord is good to all, and all will receive His mercy. Psa 145:9 The LORD is good to all: and his tender mercies are over all his works. Psa 145:10 All thy works shall praise thee, O LORD; [even those in the second resurrection] and thy saints shall bless thee [the saints or the elect first who will be in the first resurrection]. Let's continue the story of Noah: Gen 6:6 And the LORD regretted that he had made man on the earth, and it grieved him to his heart. (Kid Q) What things/actions did the people do that was sinful and made the Lord regret He made man on earth? Here's Gen 6:6 in the KJV: Gen 6:6 And it repented the LORD that he had made man on the earth, and it grieved him at his heart. This verse is used by those who believe God has given mankind free will to prove their false belief.
They say that the people in the time of Noah disobeyed God out of their own free will, that's why God repented that He made man on the earth. Here's another verse where it says the Lord repented of something: Exo 32:14 And the LORD repented of the evil which he thought to do unto his people. Here in Exodus chapter 32, the LORD is about to punish Israel because they have created a golden calf and have worshiped this idol. And then it says that Moses appealed to the Lord, that's why the LORD repented of the evil which he thought to do unto his people. Those people who believe in free will, will again say, Israel, out of their own free will has disobeyed God, so if not for Moses' pleadings (out of his own free will), the LORD would have destroyed Israel. But what is the truth, what is the sum of His word? Psa 119:160 The sum of your word is truth... Did God really change His mind? Let's look at this verse: Job 23:13 But He is in one mind, and who can turn Him? Yea, what His soul desires, He does it. Who can turn Him? No one. Yes, what His soul desires, He does it. If He really wanted to destroy Israel at that time, He would have done it. Not even Moses could change His mind. He would not have repented of the evil which he thought to do unto his people. Who causes us to disobey Him? Isa 63:17 O LORD, why hast thou made us to err from thy ways, and hardened our heart from thy fear?... Who causes us to obey Him? Psa 65:4 Blessed is the one whom You choose, and cause to come near You. That's the sum of God's word. God is the one who caused the people in the time of Noah to disobey Him. He is also the one who caused Noah to obey all that He has commanded him to do.
We don't have free will. We have a will, but God controls everything, including our will. 1Sa 15:29 And also the Glory of Israel will not lie nor repent, for He is not a man that He should repent. Everything that you do and everything that happens in this world is by God's design. God doesn't make mistakes that He should repent for these mistakes. Knowing this truth, let's go back to the question: What things/actions did the people do that was sinful and made the Lord regret He made man on earth? So we can now rephrase this question to: God has planned to destroy all men and animals, except for Noah and those that were with him in the ark. What did God cause these people to do to accomplish this plan? The answer is in verses 11 to 13: Gen 6:11 Now the earth was corrupt in God's sight, and the earth was filled with violence. Gen 6:12 And God saw the earth, and behold, it was corrupt, for all flesh had corrupted their way on the earth. Gen 6:13 And God said to Noah, "I have determined to make an end of all flesh, for the earth is filled with violence through them. Behold, I will destroy them with the earth. So that is the answer to this question. God had caused all flesh to corrupt their ways and people to be filled with violence. How did people corrupt their ways? How did people behave in a way that is not pleasant, not agreeable, not satisfactory to God? Actually, we've already read the answer. It was in the beginning of Genesis chapter 6. Somewhere in those verses, God has again hidden a spiritual lesson that most Christians do not know. Do you remember Cain and Abel? Cain and Abel were the sons of the first people on earth, Adam and Eve. Cain became jealous of his brother Abel so he killed Abel. After Abel was killed, God gave Adam and Eve another son who was called Seth, to replace Abel. Gen 4:25 And Adam knew his wife again. And she bore a son, and called his name Seth. For she said, God has appointed me another seed instead [a replacement] of Abel, because Cain killed him. Seth means substituted or replacement. Seth had sons and daughters. Cain who was cursed by God, also had sons and daughters. Noah is a descendant of Seth. 1Ch 1:1 Adam, Seth, Enos, 1Ch 1:2 Cainan, Mahalaleel, Jered, 1Ch 1:3 Enoch, Methuselah, Lamech, 1Ch 1:4 Noah, Shem, Ham, and Japheth. Seth's descendants are called the sons of God in Gen 6:2, and Cain's descendants are called the daughters of man in the same verse. Let's look at that verse again: Gen 6:2 the sons of God [descendants of Seth] saw that the daughters of man [descendants of Cain] were attractive. And they took as their wives any they chose. That's how the sons of God has corrupted their ways in those days, they saw that the daughters of man were attractive and they married them. (Kid Q) Why did God choose Noah to survive the flood and not someone else? Noah is the only one out of the descendants of Seth that didn't find the daughters of man attractive. He didn't marry someone from the descendant's of Cain. That's why we are told this:
Gen 6:9 These are the generations of Noah. Noah was a righteous man, blameless in his generation. Noah walked with God. That's where I got the subtitle of this study: Noah was blameless in his generation. What is the spiritual lesson behind this? blameless in our generation? How should we be like Noah, to be Mat 16:21 From that time Jesus began to show His disciples that He must go to Jerusalem and suffer many things from the elders and chief priests and scribes, and be killed, and be raised again the third day. Mat 16:22 Then Peter took Him and began to rebuke Him, saying, God be gracious to You, Lord! This shall never be to You. Mat 16:23 But He turned and said to Peter, Go, Satan! You are an offense to Me, for you do not savor [want] the things that are of God, but those that are of men. Finding the daughters of man attractive is spiritual code words for wanting material things [things that are of men]. If we find material things attractive, then we are finding the daughters of man attractive spiritually speaking. But if we find spiritual things attractive, like studying the Bible and being obedient to God and our parents, then we are like Noah, blameless in his generation. Before we end this study, let's look at a verse that summarizes the big lesson that we learned today. Gal 5:17 For the desires of the flesh are against the Spirit, and the desires of the Spirit are against the flesh, for these are opposed to each other, When we want material things, we are fighting against God. spiritual things, we are making Him happy.
