WEDDING BANNS I Kathryn Nowak & John Srsen LIFE IS CHANGED, NOT ENDED Eternal rest grant unto them, O Lord Albert Magni Ann Martinka Merici Chapel We have all experienced the anxious feeling of waiting to hear results from a test, job interview, lab work, surgery, etc. The holy souls in Purgatory are waiting for our prayers to help them go home and be with Jesus. We will all be there some day and be waiting for someone on earth to pray for us and help us get to heaven. Try and make an effort to go to the chapel and say a rosary for the holy souls especially during this month of November the month designated for the souls in Purgatory. November Canned Food Drive Here s what we need the most: Canned dinners, canned meats, corn, green beans, canned fruits, baked beans, soups, peanut butter/jellies, rice, spaghetti sauce, pasta, macaroni/ cheese, gravy, ketchup, sugar, cereals, pancake mix/syrup. Also needed: toothpaste, shampoo, bar soaps, Kleenex, toilet paper, paper towels, laundry detergent. Please check expiration dates and leave items in church lobbies anytime. Visit us on-line at www.stcharlesonline.org Almost twenty-five years ago we inaugurated the Shopping Gift Certificate Program at St Charles. We purchased a variety of gift certificates at a small discount. We then sold them at face value making a few cents on the dollar. Multiplied by thousands of sales, those few cents quickly added up and, over the years, our Shopping Gift Certificate Program has contributed more than two million dollars to our Catholic education program. This has been an ideal fund-raiser: there s no door-to-door selling, no tickets, and nothing to lose. Just buy our certificates, do your regular shopping, and a small percentage is returned to the parish. The key is the number of people involved. The more who participate, the more successful we are. As the Christmas shopping season gets underway, I usually ask around this time of year for parishioners to use our Gift Certificates when shopping and to give our Certificates as gifts. However, in recent years, there has been a revolution in the shopping industry. Increasing numbers of people shop on-line. Some of the old favorite stores are gone; some big box retailers are struggling. So while I will ask you to use our Shopping Gift Certificate Program again this year, I am also making an appeal for everybody to participate. If each parishioner, throughout the year, would do his/her grocery shopping and their auto gas purchasing through our Certificate Program, it would be a tremendous help and take up the slack for the new ways of shopping. There is a list in this bulletin of the many certificates we have on hand. So that is the purpose of this week s letter: I am asking you to make that a regular commitment to purchase your weekly gas and groceries with St Charles Gift Certificates. It is a small thing that everyone can easily do and we will reap big benefits. Just make it a point to stop by the Parish Office before you go to the grocery store or to the gas station. You can also use our Giant Eagle Gift Certificates to purchase other gift certificates at Giant Eagle and thereby build up your Fuel Perks credits. We will continue to stock a wide variety of gift certificates for retail and discount stores, entertainment, various consumer services and for eating-out establishments of all kinds. Please make that commitment now to use our Certificate Program at least for gas and groceries. Our many children will bless you for it! * * * * St Charles Dismas Ministry thanks all those who donated so generously to the Women s Clothing Drive two weeks ago. Three truckloads of clothes were collected along with winter coats and $140 in cash. All items were given to the Women s Prison Facility at East 30 and Orange Avenue. I was told: The generosity of St Charles parishioners is astounding! Our November Canned Food Drive continues throughout this month. There is a list in this bulletin of the items we need the most. We feed many families, not just at holiday time, but also throughout the year thanks to you. Just leave your gifts in the church lobbies any time during the week. You are also encouraged to bring those gifts to our Thanksgiving Day Mass, Thursday, November 23, at 9:30am. Don t forget the Donut Social after this Sunday s 10:00am Mass. We will be in the Lower Parish Hall.
