A Message from: Sister Mary Alyce April 8, 2018 Christ is Risen! The Easter Season has begun! Easter isn t just a single day in the Christian year. It is a season of 50 days, beginning with the Resurrection of Jesus celebrated on Easter and concluding with the celebration of the outpouring of the Holy Spirit on Pentecost (the 50 th day), May 20 th. I invite you to take some time during this season to read from the Acts of the Apostles (listed in the bulletin on p. 2) to experience the joy of the early Church as the community met to recall the story of salvation from the events of Holy Thursday until Easter Sunday. The selections from the Acts of the Apostles for the next several weeks retell the story of the growth of the Church and the excitement the followers of Jesus felt as they became disciples to spread the news that Jesus is Risen! These are among the most powerful and beautiful accounts of the growth of the early Church. And look where we are today! The Church is alive with vibrant committed followers of Jesus, two thousand years later. How blessed we are to be numbered among the Elect and to be called to carry the Good News forward. Speaking of carrying the church forward. It s that time of year at Saint Luke Parish when some of the current Pastoral Council members give up their chairs to new members. From meeting with the current Council since September, I am honored to be with these committed individuals who have offered their time and talents to our parish for the past three or more years. Their honest appraisal of and commitment to the growth of this parish is inspiring. I m looking forward to a new group of spirit-filled and enthusiastic parishioners to join the Council to continue making this vision a reality. In a few weeks, there will be a Pastoral Council nomination form in the bulletin. I invite you NOW to be honestly discerning how/if you can contribute to the parish, using your gifts and talents and experiences to bring forth the Kingdom from 2018-2021. Or talk to other parishioners with these gifts and encourage them to place their names in nomination or allow you to do it for them. I will be placing articles about Revisioning the Parish Pastoral Council in the bulletin for the next few weeks. Please read the articles and pray about your role in contributing to this important area of church ministry. I have come to learn that Saint Luke Church likes to celebrate. It became very obvious to me during the Triduum. We certainly placed our first priority on the liturgies, which were beyond my imagination in beauty and depth. Following the Holy Thursday Mass, many people spent time in Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament either before or after the reception hosted by the Knights of Columbus. The Veneration of the Cross on Good Friday took my breath away seeing faith of all who reached up to touch it. I was humbled to carry the Cross through the Church with Fr. Keehner and Deacons Redig and Milanek. Holy Saturday morning brought lots of kids out for the annual Easter Egg hunt, hosted by the Holy Name Society. It was such an organized and fun event for the kids. Then the climax of The Easter Vigil: The lighting of the very tall Paschal Candle, purchased by the Altar Rosary Society; the chanting of The Exultet by Linda Smrek; welcoming Ken Armeni to our faith community; the Youngstown Cookie Table reception following Mass with goodies provided by The Parish Life Committee, the 2018 New Way in Christ team, the Altar Rosary Society as well as several parish bakers. Many thanks to all! The Feast of the Annunciation is celebrated on March 25 each year. Because March 25 fell during Holy Week this year, the church does not displace the celebration of Holy Week liturgies or Easter week liturgies with other feasts of the church. Therefore, the has church moved this important celebration of Mary s Fiat Thy will be done to Monday, April 9. As usual, there will be a Communion Service on Monday morning at where Mary s contribution to salvation history will be celebrated in Word and Song. **Please call the parish office by April 25 th if you have a 25, 40, 50 or more years wedding anniversary this year to register for the diocesan celebration on June 3 at St. Columba with Bishop Murry. **Scouting informational meeting will be held at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, April 25, in the parish hall. Until next time.. Sister Mary Alyce Beginning NEW MASS July TIMES 1, 2018 NEW MASS TIMES Saturday 4:30pm Sunday 10:00am

Mass followed by a combined Confirmation session with St. Angela Merici and St. Patrick students. Contact Val Sullivan at the parish office or SaintLukeCCD@gmail.com if you have questions regarding CCD or Confirmation Prep. Social Concerns: In Service to Others As Easter people, you expressed through your generous donations to the Lenten Giving Tree, our Stewardship Prayer in action. Thank You! In putting donated items away, it was obvious from some of the bags that entire family members had participated with individuals taking a tag for an item. What a great way to demonstrate giving and stewardship! On Easter Sunday, we had 36 households come to Paper Pantry Plus which helped 101 individuals. Each household received a bag of paper products and then the individual was able to choose six from the grooming, hygiene and cleaning items. People did notice the variety of products available this month. Thanks to you this was all possible. Altar Rosary Society is sponsoring a bus trip to Rivers Casino on Thursday, May 3, 2018. The cost will b $30.00 with $15 in free play and $5 for food. The bus will leave St. Luke s at 9AM and leave the Rivers at 4PM. Please call Jo Niles at 330-757- 1422 to make your reservation. Parish Mission Statement We are members of Saint Luke Parish, a Roman Catholic Christian Community of Faith within the Diocese of Youngstown. We are deeply rooted in both Scripture and Tradition. Born in Baptism and sustained by the celebration of the Eucharist, we embrace our life in Christ through prayer and sacrament, service and outreach, proclamation of the Word and formation in faith. Guided by the Holy Spirit and motivated by our love of God and of all people, we are both sign and an instrument of the Kingdom of Promise. Our unique blessing and gift is that we are a parish family which creates a warm and welcoming worship environment and participates fully in the planning and celebration of the Liturgy.
