We ask half of this, or 5% for your Parish Church. Twenty-Eighth Sunday in Ordinary Time We have all received an invitation from God - an invitation to come into his Kingdom. The readings today challenge us to consider how we have responded and how we will respond to his invitation. First, what are we being invited to? Isaiah, in the first reading today provides us a poetic description of the Kingdom of God. He says: "On this mountain, The Lord of hosts will provide for all peoples a feast of rich food and choice wines..." He goes on to say that on that mountain there will be no more sorrow, nor more suffering, no more death. It will be a place of eternal happiness, joy and love. Jesus, in the gospel today, uses the description of a king throwing a great wedding feast. Some friends are invited but they refuse to come. The king doesn't give up. He sends out messengers again. This time, some ignore the invitation because they are too busy about their work or their own affairs. Some even go so far as to mistreat and kill the messengers. Eventually the king makes an invitation to all the people, good and bad alike. Jesus reminds his followers many are invited, but few are chosen. We have received the invitation from the Lord at our baptism. How have we responded? Do we live as Christ taught us, loving God and our neighbor? Or do we get caught up in our own business, too busy to pay attention to the message of God? We ignore the person poorer than us; we back stab the person working next to us; we let down our morals because we feel we need someone to show us love. We find our comfort in alcohol or drugs rather than the love God offers. Too often we don't accept the invitation. The beauty of our faith is that God never stops offering the invitation. No matter how often we fail, it is offered again. St. Paul says today that he knows what it is to be hungry and he knows what it is to be well fed. He says God will supply whatever we need. Let us make our prayer the prayer of Saint Paul: "I can Sunday, October 12, Twenty-Eighth Sunday in Ordinary Time 5:00PM (Vigil) Rose Delp 7:30 Yolanda Donatucci 9:00 Patrick McFadden 10:30L.C. I go every year and always enjoy the event. In some ways it reminds me of the way things used to be done in Saint William. The pastor has all the groups of the parish attend the closing and it really does fill the church. As I stood in the back of church watching them all pass by, I noticed the confirmation class, the children who received First Communion, the altar servers, lectors, etc. Among all the groups that passed, I noticed one called Respect Life Committee. It made me think that we do not have an active Respect Life Committee here at Saint William. So this is what I am thinking: if there are enough people interested in trying to establish a Respect Life Committee here in the parish, I would be open to that. I would want this group to be formed in accordance with the guidelines and policies of the Respect Life Office at the Archdiocese. If there are enough people who are willing, maybe we could send some people to the Pro-Life March in January. If you feel interested in trying to establish a Respect Life Committee in our parish, please contact the rectory and leave your name and phone number. I'm not sure where this will lead but if it's of the Spirit it will take hold. I have prepared my banquet, and everything is ready. Come to the feast! (Matthew 22:1-14 [1-10]).

Danos tu gracia. Que seamos humildes y agradecidos.
