This is the fourth part in a series explaining the role of deacon. This week I ll explain about service in charity and justice. Jesus Christ came not to be served, but to serve. The deacon is to be the voice for the voiceless and an advocate for the poor, whether that is monetarily or in spirit. There are many, many paths here for the deacon to travel. These range from serving the hungry and the homeless to those who are looking to enter the Church. It could simply mean lending a hand to poor and needy, or to the elders among us who just need a little help with a project. It could also mean to help those who are grieving the loss of a loved one. I believe that service is truly at the core of my being. Those who have seen me grow up at Sacred Heart would probably agree. Much of that time I ve spent helping the youth and young adults embrace serving others in the spirit of Jesus. Finally, next week I will explain the duties and faculties typically assigned to a deacon. My ordination is set for May 12 at the cathedral in Green Bay. Everyone is welcome to attend. Please pray that the Holy Spirit continues to pour into my heart a love for charity and justice. The monthly aluminum can drive will take place next weekend. Please place your aluminum in the red trailer located in the parking lot. All profits from this activity are used to offset field trips and transportation expenses at Sacred Heart Catholic School. Take care of the Earth and support Catholic education at the same time. Only aluminum cans, please!
