. Dear Sisters and Brothers in Christ: The Offertory Commitment Program (OCP) is the regular source of funding for our parish's activities. As an offertory program it reminds us of our commitment to the needs of the parish and the wider church to preach to good news, to sustain our ministries, to maintain our properties and support all the activities of our parishes. Each parish is a separate entity and donations are credited to the parish as indicated on the check or envelope. For example, if you attend Mass at Sacred Heart and use your St. John's envelope. St John's Parish receives the donation. Each month a letter is sent to all members of the OCP program, with a statement of the current status of their commitment. You may have noticed that in the January statement, it stated that you had a $0 balance. This was due to a delay in the updating the records from one year to the next. Each year we need to reenter all the information on the level of giving to which participant has committed. Unfortunately, this was not completed in time to send out the January letters. The information will be entered, based on last year's commitment, reflecting any changes that you have asked for, and the February statements should be up to date. When you return your OCP for January, I ask that you donate at you customary level and apologize for any confusion or difficulties this has caused. If you have not participated in the OCP program in the past, I invite you to join. It is a pledge based program, in which you make a commitment of your yearly support of the parish, and is payable weekly, monthly, quarterly, or annually as you prefer. Please call the parish office or review the brochures at the entrance of the church for more information. Also, there has been some difficulties in bank transfers (EFT) with some of the local banks. If you have set up an automatic withdrawal from you bank and this has not been occurring for the past few months, please contact me at the parish office. On behalf of the Finance Committees of both parishes, I thank you for your support of the parishes and your assistance in proclaiming the good news. Peace, Fr. Jack Faith Book Reflection on Today s Readings From today's Gospel reading: After all the people had been baptized and Jesus also had been baptized and was praying, heaven opened and the Holy Spirit descended upon him in bodily form like a dove. Reflection: Through our baptism we are assured of God s presence working through us in the ordinary events of our lives. Urged by the Spirit, as Jesus was, we are sent to tell others, especially the least in society, that they too are God s "beloved." This "telling" will not only be in words, but through concrete action. So we ask ourselves: Has our prayer revealed to us that, with Jesus, we are God s beloved child? Through prayer have we also learned to treat others as God s beloved as well? Flu Prevention If you are seriously ill, it is not a sin to miss Mass. If you are sick you can infect others and spread disease by contact with them. If you are well enough to attend Mass you may forgo shaking hands during the Sign of Peace. A gesture, a nod, or other acknowledgement of those around you is a way of conveying the Sign of Peace to others. If you are sick, you should refrain from receiving from the cup. When receiving the Body of Christ in the form of bread, it may be less likely to spread germs if you receive in your hand. Due to the danger of the Precious Blood dripping to the floor, or fingers going into the cup, the Host should never be dipped (Intinction) by the communicant. Hand sanitizers will be available on the credence tables for the ministers to clean their hands before and after the distribution of communion. As we exercise caution, without over reaction, we will be able to control the sharing of our colds and flu 4
'Encounter Christ During Our Year of Faith'. Please join us to 'Encounter Christ During Our Year of Faith'. A new series of discussions will begin in February that will enable us to see how we can enjoy, live with, and encounter Christ more fully as Catholic Christians. We will be discussing The Mass, Eucharistic Adoration, The Scriptures, The Sacrament of Reconciliation, Prayers of the Church, and the Intercession of the Blessed Virgin Mary with a renewed emphasis on The Rosary. The series will begin in a few weeks, details to follow. Please call Chris at the Parish office if you have any questions. During this 'Year of Faith', as we remember those that have gone before us and how we can become closer to Jesus, the Parish has formed a Ministry of Consolation. This ministry will give parishioners an opportunity to come together to share, console, and pray with and for each other. As an adult parishioner who is dealing with loss, we extend an invitation to join us for support, encouragement, and consolation while you are on this difficult path. Meetings are scheduled on the First Wednesday of the Month, at 7PM in the Sacred Heart Rectory, unless otherwise noted. Please call Chris at the parish office if you have any questions or concerns.
