January, 2018 All Saints Lutheran Church Spirit By Another Road Epiphany is Saturday January 6. Epiphany recognizes the many manifestations of Jesus and the Day of Epiphany celebrates his appearance to the Magi. By the way, The Twelfth Day of Christmas is Friday January 5 if you re looking for your drummers drumming. Our choir offered terrific special music last month during worship. The musicians who accompanied them added such a beautiful sound. I particularly love the music an oboe makes. I read recently that December 31, 2017 will be the only day when all of the minors were born in the 21 st century and all of the adults in the 20 th. I like trivia, if you didn t know that! More trivia: The purple stocking cap I sometimes wear is called a slouchie. I played four Sunday Songs before the PATHWAYS Adult Forum in December: Just Like Christmas by Low; Merry Christmas Everybody by Slade; River by Joni Mitchell and Burn Down the Malls by Mojo Nixon. The last one got the most response, for some reason, even though I didn t play the whole song. What should I play to begin 2018? Didn t our kids do a fabulous job in the Sunday School Christmas Program Angels on Assignment? If you can be sure to check out photos on Facebook and Instagram with the hash tag #allsaintseagan. Ann Power s book Good Booty was a great read. It s subtitled Love and Sex, Black and White, Body and Soul in American Music. I learned a lot about American history, especially how much of our popular music goes back to Creole culture in 19 th century New Orleans. More recently, Beyoncé s Creole heritage has been celebrated in her music. I managed to complete my Christmas shopping without stepping foot in a mall this year. It figures however, I m supposed to go to the Mall of America on Friday night to meet some friends. I still haven t seen the new Star Wars movie and I m not used to the new titles they all have. Someone recently asked me what my favorite one was and I responded, The first one, because it was so unique when it came out. They responded, Yeah, I like A New Hope, too. It took me a second to catch up. Continued on page 2

By Another Road continued from page 1 Go Vikings! Skol! I m still just saying. We always fondue sometime between Christmas and New Years as a family I m a sucker for those little wieners. Shrimp are good, too. Ice and snow are settled atop Hay Lake and a winter stillness surrounds the landscape most days. Happy 2018! God s presence, blessings and peace are everywhere. May you find what you re looking for. ACTIVITIES AND OPPORTUNITIES AT ALL SAINTS! WINTER YOGA - Winter yoga will resume on January 11 and run Thursday nights at 7 p.m. through February 15.
