GOD MADE THE WORLD EATIO made day, night, land, and plants. LEADER BIBLE STUDY N CR LIFE POINT: G od The most basic question for science and philosophy is, How did the universe begin? LEVEL OF BIBLICAL LEARNING God created the world in six days and rested on the seventh. In the 20th century, secular astronomers came to the undisputed conclusion that the entire universe (time, space, matter, and energy) had a beginning from nothing. But they cannot, in any way, explain how. Genesis 1:1 gives the only reasonable answer to the how question God BIBLE PASSAGE created everything. God revealed that the universe exists because He brought it into Genesis 1:1-19 existence from nothing. The Hebrew word translated created is bara, which means WEEKLY VERSE specially created (it is also used twice for mankind s creation in verse 27). In the beginning God made the world. Genesis 1:1 UNIT VERSE In the beginning God made the world. Genesis 1:1 Beyond that initial creation event, Genesis 1 2 outlines the six-day progression God followed to create the earth. We will look at the first four days in this session. Initially the earth was dark and formless over the waters. So the Spirit of God created light, which established days and nights. On day two, He formed the sky. On day three, dry land emerged. He called the land earth and the waters seas. God made plants and trees and declared them good. On day four, God opened the skies to reveal the sun, moon, and stars to light the earth. The sun was to have dominion over the day, and the moon governed the night. The stars also shone brightly, and God saw it was good. Why can t science tell us how the universe was made? Why is it necessary for God to reveal how the universe was made? How was God s declaration that His creation is good reflective of His holy nature? GROUP TIME Move to music. Play God Made You and Me (track 1). Guide preschoolers to form a circle (earth) and spin slowly left and right as a group. Tell the Bible story. Choose a child to open your Bible to the Book of Genesis. Tell the children that Genesis is the first book in the Bible. Emphasize that God created the world in six days. Comment that today you will learn about the first four days. Point to each number on the time line as you tell the Bible story. GOD MADE THE WORLD Based on Genesis 1:1-19 In the beginning God made the world. The world was first dark and empty. God said, Let there be light, and there was light. He called the light day and the dark night. He made the first morning, the first evening, and the first day. On the second day, God separated the water. He called the space above the water sky. The night came and then a new morning. On the third day, God spoke, and there was land and water gathered in place on the earth. He filled the land with all kinds of trees and plants. He made trees that grow fruit and plants that make seeds. God saw it was good. The night came and a new day. On the fourth day, God said, Let there be lights in the sky. He made the moon and stars to give light at night. He made a brighter light, the sun, to give us light for the day. God looked at everything He had made and saw it was good. Review the Bible story. Point to the time line and choose a child to come and attach the corresponding time line pictures to day 1. Continue with the time line through day 4. After each picture, lead the preschoolers to say the Unit Verse, In the beginning God made the world, while giving a thumbs-up sign. Mention that the Bible Verse today is the first verse in the first book of the Bible. Point to Genesis 1:1 in your Bible. Remind the children that Jesus used stories about God s beautiful world to help people understand God s love. Play a Bible review game. Point to the yellow and black papers on the walls. Explain that the preschoolers need to decide if the action or item you say is seen or done during the night or day. Practice with the word sleep. Direct the children to move to the black paper because you sleep at night. Continue the game with these words: play, stars, owl, moon, sun, bat, go to church, ride your bike. Lead the children in prayer by saying, I am thankful for (something God made). Wrap it up. Show the God Made the World: Life Action video. Talk about the things God made. Show and review Teaching Picture 1. CHOOSE Your Own SCHEDULE Decide when to have group time; then select learning activities to use before and/ or after group time. Pack Items 14, 15, 20, 21: Unit Verse Markers, Weekly Verse Markers, Creation Picture Time Line, Time Line Pictures (1 8) Teaching Picture 1 CD DVD Black and yellow construction paper, tape Tape one black and one yellow sheet of construction paper on the wall at opposite ends of the room. BIBLE-LEARNING ACTIVITIES Kids Activity Page Markers, white construction paper, damp sponge, crayons 4 shoe boxes; large paper bag filled with clean recyclable trash: plastic bottles, paper, cardboard, aluminum Teaching Picture 1 Play dough, star and circle cookie cutters, rolling pin Blocks, nature pictures (optional) DRAW A SUNSET Help each child complete the Kids Activity Page. Lead preschoolers to draw a sunset. Explain that a sunset happens at the end of the day when the sun is lowering and night is coming. Remind the children that God made the sun so we would have light during the day. He made a brighter light for the day and a lesser light for the night. Suggest the children gently tap the damp sponge on the drawing. Encourage them to watch how the colors blend into each other. Lead children to pray, thanking God for the sun. (Art) TAKE CARE OF GOD S WORLD Place one of each kind of recyclable item in separate shoe boxes. Invite preschoolers to look in each box and say what they see. Direct a child to reach in the paper bag and pull out an item. Assist the child in deciding which recycling box it should go in. Continue helping the child sort the items. Encourage children to think of ways to reuse materials at home. Remark that God made the world, looked down, and said it was good. We can help keep the earth looking good by picking up trash and reusing materials. (Puzzles and Games) CREATE WITH PLAY DOUGH Lead preschoolers to roll out the play dough and cut out star and circle shapes. As they work, remind them that God created the stars and moon to give us light during the night. Suggest they use different colors of play dough to make other things God created. Show the Teaching Picture; ask children to point at and name the different things God made. (Art) PLAY WITH BLOCKS Review the Bible story. Mention that God made mountains, hills, and different rock forms on day 3. Suggest preschoolers use the blocks to create some things God made. If you have nature pictures, direct children to the pictures for ideas. As children build, remind them that God did not use His hands to make the world. God used His words. He said the word light, and there was light. (Blocks) 10 Unit 1, Session 1

LIFE POINT God made day, night, land, and plants. DIG IN SAND Hide the items (except magnifying glass) in the tub of sand. Guide preschoolers to dig through the sand. As they find things, assist them in deciding if the items belong in the sand (beach) or not. Take out those items that do not belong. Encourage children to look at the seashells with the magnifying glass. Extend the activity by suggesting children sort the seashells by size or type. Show the Bible Verse marker and say it as you point to each word. Lead children in thanking God for the things He made. (Nature and Science) BONUS ACTIVITIES PAINT AN EARTH PICTURE AND HEAR ABOUT MISSIONS Comment to the children that they will be painting an earth picture. The brown will represent the land, and the blue will represent the oceans. Direct them to use the spoons to drop the paint on different places on the stapled plate. They should not fill the plate with paint. Guide preschoolers to place the second plate on top of the painted one and spin it. Instruct them to remove and throw away the top plate. Say that God made the world (show globe). Mention that God made different places with water and land. One place is called Africa (show on globe). Missionary Kimberly Cain teaches children in West Africa about God and Jesus. She loves these children like Jesus does. Show the Missions Pictures to help introduce Kimberly Cain to the boys and girls. REVIEW THE BIBLE STORY Talk about the different things God made as the children color the Coloring Page with crayons. Challenge the children to thank God for the wonderful things He created when they see the sun, moon, and stars. Play the music Creation of God (track 13) in the background as the children work. Pack Item 15: Weekly Verse Markers Seashells, plastic shovels, magnifying glass, straws, gum wrappers, paper cup, plastic tub full of sand CD: Missions Pictures 2 paper plates per child, blue and green paint, painting smocks, plastic spoons, colored paper, stapler, world globe Staple one plate to the paper. MISSIONS PICTURES UNIT 1 Missions in West Africa Missionary: Kimberly Cain Jesus loves all children everywhere and wants them to learn about Him. Kimberly Cain in West Africa loves children and tells them about Jesus. Sometimes Kimberly teaches children as they sit on mats on the dusty ground. Sometimes she teaches children at a local church where the roof is made of woven grass. That church building might not look like yours, but the children in West Africa are learning the same stories from the Bible that you are! Kimberly uses a storytelling cloth to tell stories from the Bible. Each picture on the cloth is about a different Bible story. Kimberly tells children the Bible stories so they can grow up knowing Jesus and telling others about Him. Pray For missionaries to learn the new language For missionaries to adjust to a new culture and yearround hot temperatures For the children of West Africa to learn to follow Jesus and tell others Bible Studies For Life 3s Pre-K, Fall 2016 2016 LifeWay.
