MEMORY VERSE HELPS GOD S WORD AND ME #3 The Ethiopian Treasurer MEMORY VERSE: Psalm 119:130 The entrance of Thy words giveth light; it giveth understanding to the simple. (The underlined portion of the verse indicates what the younger children should memorize. See Involvement Helps for Younger Children for helps in teaching the verse to the younger children.) INTRODUCE THE VERSE: What happens when you turn on a light in a dark room? It brings light into the room. In a way, the Bible is like a light. God s Word brings light, or understanding, into our lives. Let s learn today s memory verse to find out how this happens. READ THE VERSE: Read the verse from the Bible or have an older child read it; then have all the children read with you from the verse visual. EXPLAIN THE VERSE: Psalm 119:130 This is where the verse is found in the Bible. We call it the address or reference. It is found in the book of Psalm, chapter 119, verse 130. The entrance of Thy words giveth light; The opposite of light is darkness. Those who do not know the Lord Jesus as their Saviour walk in the darkness of their sins. When they hear or read God s Word, it as though a light goes on in their heart. It shows them that they have sinned and how to have their sins forgiven. The Bible tells us of the way to Heaven. it giveth understanding to the simple. After we have received Jesus as our Saviour from sin, the Bible helps us to know how to live for Jesus. God s Word is not just for ministers and teachers; it is for everyone, including boys and girls. God helps us to understand His message written in His Word, the Bible. REPEAT THE VERSE: Tone It Down After reading this verse from the Bible, explaining what it means, and repeating it at least two times, you may begin this drill. Repeat the verse in a loud, clear voice. The next time it is repeated, tone it down a little by speaking more quietly. The third time, it is toned down a little more. Each time it is repeated it is toned down, until finally it is whispered. Then the last time it is said, you just mouth the words and make no sound at all. Then this child follows along to the next child. This procedure continues until all the children have been told. LEARNING ABOUT THE BIBLE & THE OLD TESTAMENT BOOKS WEEK #13 (Place figure #1.) (Review the five books of Law, the 12 books of History, the five books of Poetry, and the first three Major prophets. If time allows, review something about the name or content of each book.) (Place figures #37 and #38.) There are two other books that are considered Major Prophets because of the length of the books. They are Ezekiel and Daniel. (Place Ezekiel wordstrip.) God used the prophet Ezekiel to write the book of Ezekiel. It mainly deals with the capture of Israel by their enemy and the promise that the Jews will return to their homeland some day. He could write about their capture since he was one of those taken prisoner to another land. (Place Daniel wordstrip.) The book of Daniel was written by the prophet Daniel, who had also been captured as a young man. Daniel rose to high positions in the government of the land he had been taken to, and he told about (prophesied) the rise and fall of various nations of the world that would happen in the future. (Practice saying the names of the five books of Law, the 12 books of History, the five books of Poetry, and the five Major Prophets.) CHILD EVANGELISM FELLOWSHIP OF EASTERN PA, INC. P.O. GO AND TELL BOX Week #14 Information About the Saüls INFORMATION (Suggested item to put in the Go and Tell Box dark heart.) What do you think the a dark heart has to do with going and telling? (Let the children share their ideas.) Who remembers the name of our missionaries who serve in the country of Haiti? (Show their picture.) Pastor Lucien and Mrs. Maude have been telling children about the Lord Jesus for many years in their home country. This heart reminds us that the Bible says all are born sinners and there are many children in Haiti who need to know about the Lord Jesus. There are over 230 thousand children, ages 4-15, in Haiti. The majority of the Haitian families practice voodoo, which invo lves worshiping evil spirits. God s Word says we are to worship Him only (Exodus 20:3). Remember, Pastor Lucien has a Bible Institute where local Haitian pas tors come to study God s Word. They are trained to teach the Bible to adults and to share the Good News of Jesus Christ with children. When they leave the Salem Bible Institute, some of these pastors do become involved in teaching childr e n. P as to r Lucien shares that they are a great encouragement to him. However, he would like more of them to serve the Lord in a greater way by becoming involved as regular children s worker s. Only as others begin to teach God s Word to children, will more children understand how they can believe on the Lord Jesus as their personal Saviour. PRAYER THANK God for Pastor Lucien who desires to help others learn how to teach the children of Haiti about how they can ask Jesus to be their personal Saviour. ASK God to help the Haitian pastors teach God s Word to the children in their villages. Pray that the children will be attentive and understand the Gospel and pray to receive Jesus as their Saviour.
