Abraham McMillian, Jr. By Gracie Stover 1. Abraham McMillian, Jr. Abraham McMillian, Jr., was born about 1775 in North Carolina. Three of his sons may have been Abraham, III, Meredith, and Dudley McMillian. 2. Abraham McMillian, III, and Elizabeth Morris Abraham McMillian, III, was born about 1805 in Patrick County, Virginia. He married Elizabeth Morris on February 16, 1832, in Grayson County, Virginia. Abraham moved his family to the part of Fayette County, Virginia, that became Raleigh County in 1850. He moved to Kanawha County sometime before 1870. Their children were Sarah Ann, Elizabeth, William Jackson, Lydia, Mary Ann, and Alicia. -Elizabeth McMillian was born about 1834. She married Robert Dew, Jr., on December 18, 1857, in Raleigh County. They had two children. -Lydia McMillian was born about 1838. She married William Brockman on April 2, 1857, in Raleigh County. Their son was Samuel Brockman. -Mary Ann McMillian was born about 1839 in Fayette County. She married Nathaniel Burgess, son of John Burgess and Precious Mullins, on November 9, 1858, in Raleigh County. They had two children. 3. Sarah Ann McMillian and William Calvin Acord Sarah Ann McMillian, daughter of Abraham, III, was born March 27, 1833, at Rock Creek, Logan County, Virginia, and died June 17, 1905, at Rock Creek, Raleigh County. She married William Calvin Acord, son of Robert Acord and Nancy Gore, on December 14, 1848, in Fayette County. Their children were Lydia, Nancy, William Jackson, James Henderson, Mary, John, Joseph, Martha, and Sarah Elizabeth. -Nancy J. Acord was born about 1849 in Wyoming County. She married Thomas J. Cadle, son of Thomas and Lydia Cadle, on December 25, 1867, in Raleigh County. -Mary J. Acord was born about 1861. She married James William Jarrell, son of John Jarrell and Julia Ann Pettry, on March 6, 1878, in Raleigh County.

4. Lydia Rosabelle Acord Lydia Rosabelle Acord, daughter of William Calvin Acord, was born August 26, 1856, in Raleigh County and died December 15, 1917, in Raleigh County. Her first marriage was to George William Massey, son of Steele Massey and Caroline Cantley, on January 28, 1875, in Raleigh County. George was born on July 28, 1856, in Raleigh County, and died October 30, 1895 in Raleigh County. Their children were Laura Belle, Martha, Henry, Priscilla, James, Mary, Linville, Robert Lee, Arizona, Calvin, and Virginia. -Martha Romanza Massey was born about 1877 and died December 23, 1932, in Raleigh County. She was married to James Lewis Hudson Pettry, son of Jacob Pettry and Jane Morris. -Mary Massey married George Washington Cantley on April 1, 1884, in Raleigh County. -Linville Christopher Massey was born April 26, 1878 in Raleigh County. He married Mary J. Matthews, daughter of Capt. J. W. Mathews and Josephine Walker, on March 1, 1904. They had three children. -Robert Lee Massey was born September 5, 1879. He married first Lucy Snodgrass, daughter of C. F. Snodgrass and Mary George, on February 18, 1902. He was married second to Twila A. Pringle. 5. Laura Belle Massey and Robert Williams Laura Belle Massey, daughter of George William Massey and Lydia Rosabelle Acord, was born February 20, 1882, at Rock Creek, Raleigh County, and died June 13, 1952, in Raleigh County. She married Robert Lee Williams, son of Floyd J. Williams and Paulina Jarrell, on December 21, 1899, in Raleigh County. Robert, a lumberman and a farmer, was born August 1, 1877, at Jarrell's Valley, Raleigh County. He died February 22, 1967, in Raleigh County. Their children were Essie, Donnie, Esther, Orville, and Tracy. -Essie Agnes Williams was born March 14, 1905, at Rock Creek, Raleigh County, and died January 17, 1983, in Raleigh County. She married Azel Jake Farley, son of Floyd M. Farley and Nancy Etta Jarrell, on January 20, 1923. Azel was born October 9, 1900, at Horse Creek, Raleigh County, and died February 2, 1992 in Raleigh County. They had eight children. -Donnie Marie Williams was born September 20, 1911. She married Clarence Wills, son of James Monroe Wills and Hila Ann Price. Clarence was born December 28, 1904, at Rock Creek, Raleigh County and died April 12, 1979, at Rock Creek. They had five children. -Esther Williams was born September 16, 1913. She was married to Albert Eskew, son of Marion Freer Eskew and Sarah Virginia Jarrell. Albert was born December 21, 1904, at Dry Creek, Raleigh County, and died July 4, 1983, in Raleigh County. 2

-Orville Burton Williams was born December 8, 1900, at Rock Creek and died June 24, 1969, in Raleigh County. He married Ada Florence Farley, daughter of Floyd M. Farley and Nancy Etta Jarrell. Ada was born November 4, 1898, at Horse Creek, Raleigh County, and died April 21, 1981, in Illinois. -Tracy Avel Williams was born July 25, 1902, at Rock Creek and died February 19, 1973, at Rock Creek. He married Wavie Gay Scarboro, daughter of Thomas Byron Scarboro and Florence Belle Cantley. Lydia Rosabelle Acord married William Green Daniel, son of Nehemiah Daniel, Jr., and Catherine Mankin, on May 24, 1900, in Raleigh County. William was born March 4, 1845, and died May 2, 1912, in Raleigh County. 4. James Henderson Acord and Nancy Hunter James Henderson Acord, son of William Calvin Acord and Sarah Ann McMillian, died December 9, 1890, in McDowell County, West Virginia. He married Nancy Ann Hunter, daughter of William Hunter and Mahala Pettry, on December 29, 1878, in Raleigh County. Their daughter was Laura Isabel Acord. -Laura Isabel Acord was born December 24, 1879, and died October 12, 1967. She was married to Charles Robert Clay, son of Henry Bryon Clay and Nancy Jane Thompson. 4. John Calvin Acord and Pauline Morris John Calvin Acord, son of William Calvin Acord and Sarah Ann McMillian, was born about 1863 in Raleigh County. He married Pauline Alice Morris, daughter of James and Louisa Morris, on June 1, 1887 in Raleigh County. Their daughter was Millie. -Millie Acord was born about 1897 in Raleigh County. She was married to Glisby Blaine McGinnis, son of Henry Andrew McGinnis and Lauvena Elizabeth Milam. Glisby was born February 12, 1900, and died July 4, 1987. They had two children. 4. Sarah Elizabeth Acord and Andrew Clay Sarah Elizabeth Acord, daughter of William Calvin Acord and Sarah Ann McMillian, was born September 19, 1870, in Raleigh County and died May 16, 1972. She married Andrew Byron Clay, son of Henry Byron Clay and Nancy Jane Thompson, on October 2, 1890, in Raleigh County. Their son was Henry Clay. -Henry Byron Clay married Frances Azel Young. 3

3. William Jackson McMillian and Elizabeth Phipps William Jackson McMillian, son of Abraham McMillian, III, was born in December 1836 in Fayette County. He married Elizabeth Jane Phipps, daughter of Fielding Phipps and Eleanor Ellison, on January 20, 1859, in Raleigh County. He was a private in Company A, 30th Battalion Virginia Sharpshooters. Their son was Andrew Lewis McMillian. 4. Andrew Lewis McMillian and Sarah Wilson Andrew Lewis McMillian, son of William Jackson McMillian, was born February 24, 1860. He married Sarah Elizabeth Wilson, daughter of Robert Wesley Wilson and Thursey Ann Colton, on February 2, 1878, in Raleigh County. Sarah was born June 4, 1860, in Raleigh County, and died July 5, 1887, in Raleigh County. Their children were William, Anna, Isaac, Ida, and James. -William Fielding McMillian was born December 18, 1878, in Raleigh County, and died April 25, 1957, in Raleigh County. He married Sirena Alvestine Daniel, daughter of Robert Cumberland Daniel and Martha Elizabeth Massey, on June 12, 1901, in Raleigh County. They had seven children. -James Abraham McMillian was born February 10, 1882, in Raleigh County and died June 11, 1973, in Kanawha County. He married Lena Cooper, daughter of William Cooper and Nancy Burnside, on September 17, 1907, in Raleigh County. Lena was born August 24, 1887, in Raleigh County, and died February 24, 1978, in Clay County. They had six children. 2. Dudley McMillian Dudley McMillian, son of Abraham, was born about 1794 in Grayson County, Virginia, and died after 1780 in Wyoming County. He married Mary Allen, daughter of William Allen, Jr., and Ann Stuart, on May 9, 1821, in Surry County, North Carolina. Their children were Nancy, Lucy Anne, Hannah, Henry, Elizabeth, William, George, and Henderson. -Lucy Anne McMillian was born about 1826 and married Anthony Mahon. They had seven children. -Hannah McMillian married William Henderson. She also married William Bailey on May 10, 1876, in Wyoming County. -Henry McMillian married Mary Phillips, daughter of Abram Abner Phillips and Nancy Ellison, about 1859 in Wyoming County. -Elizabeth McMillian was born in 1832 in Grayson County, Virginia. She married Peter Green Cozart, Sr., son of Reuben Cozart and Elizabeth Weaver, on June 19, 1870, in Wyoming County. Their children were Martha, Mary, William, Nancy, John, James, and Margaret Ann. 4

-William McMillian was married to Julia Lafferty, daughter of Elizabeth Lafferty. They had five children. 3. Nancy McMillian and George Milam Nancy McMillian, daughter of Dudley was born March 9, 1823, in Grayson County, Virginia and died September 18, 1872, in Raleigh County. She married George Milam, son of James Milam and Margaret Davidson, on December 29, 1842, in Fayette County. Their children were Dudley, James and Andrew. -Andrew Jackson Milam was born in 1851 in Raleigh County. He married Nancy Jane Milam, daughter of Russell Milam and Narcissus Sizemore, on July 30, 1875, in Raleigh County. -James A. Milam married Elizabeth Adeline Lafferty on June 19, 1869, in Raleigh County. Elizabeth was the daughter of Alexander Lafferty and Edie Wills. Their children were George, Mary, William, Hiram, Dudley, Ede, Sarah, and Joseph. 4. Dudley Milam Dudley Milam, son of George, was born April 1, 1845, in Fayette County. He was married to Louisa Emily Cook, daughter of Pemberton Cook and Ruth Shumate, on October 19, 1866, in Raleigh County. Their children were Margaret, Alice, Lauvena, William, Susie, James, and Louis. -Margaret Milam was born October 13, 1870, in Raleigh County and died September 13, 1946, in Mingo County, West Virginia. She married Daniel Peters, son of Jonathan Peters and Catherine Dickens, about 1892. They had ten children. Cook. -Alice Milam married William Franklin Webb, son of Leonard Webb and Elizabeth 5. Lauvena Milan and Henry McGinnis Lauvena Elizabeth Milam, daughter of Dudley, was born May 2, 1878, and died December 25, 1957. She married Henry Andrew McGinnis, son of Thomas Jefferson McGinnis and Nancy Jane Workman. Henry was born March 23, 1870, in Raleigh County and died March 29, 1926. Their children were Carl, Lowell, Nora, Alma, Nancy, Glisby, Ward, Pink, Pearl, and Thomas. -Alma McGinnis was born May 22, 1896, in Raleigh County and died February 14, 1955. She was married to James Gallimore. -Nancy Helen McGinnis was born March 15, 1896, in Raleigh County and died May 11, 1977, in North Carolina. She married John Harvey Walls, son of James Walls and Margaret 5

Fleshman. John was born June 6, 1890, in Raleigh County, and died December 24, 1963, in Florida. They had two children. -Glisby Blaine McGinnis was born February 12, 1900, and died July 4, 1987, in Raleigh County. He married Millie Acord, daughter of John Calvin Acord and Pauline Morris. They had two children. -Pink McGinnis was born June 29, 1904, in Raleigh County and died August 13, 1988, in Raleigh County. Her first marriage was to Dewey Blaine Stewart, son of Edward Stewart and Minerva Webb. Blaine was born January 11, 1898, in Raleigh County and died September 26, 1939, in a mining accident at Cranberry, Raleigh County. They had six children. Pink also married Frederick Halliwell, son of Joe Halliwell and Mary Elizabeth Bimpson. They had two children. -Pearl Bradie McGinnis was married to James Wade Manning, son of Lawrence Manning and Bertha Acord. -Thomas Jefferson McGinnis was born September 27, 1920 and died September 30, 1985. He married Opal Wilson, and they had two children. Dudley's second marriage was to Sean Catherine Burleson on July 6, 1899, in Wyoming County. 2. Meredith McMillian and Mary Miller Meredith McMillian, possibly the son of Abraham, was born about 1809. He was married to Mary Miller. Their children were Lucinda, Robert, Aletha, William Dudley, Isobel, Julia Ann, Henry, and Abram. -Isabel McMillian was born Febuary 6, 1835, in Raleigh County, and died Febuary 20, 1936, in Fayette County. She married John Daniel, son of William Daniel and Chloe Gwinn, on March 15, 1865, in Kanawha County. They had ten children. -Julia Ann McMillian was born March 15, 1844, and died October 29, 1909, in Raleigh County. She married Jeremiah Daniel, son of William Daniel and Chloe Gwinn, on August 8, 1865, in Kanawha County. They had eleven children. 3. Lucinda McMillian and Booker Clay Lucinda McMillian, daughter of Meredith, married Booker Clay, son of Meredith Clay and Nancy Bailey. Booker was born in March 1836, and died October 17, 1919, in Raleigh County. Their children were Marshall, Eliza, Peter, Isaac, Susan, Rufus, Mary Ann, Nancy Jane, and Henry Harrison Clay. -Marshall Clay was born about 1865 and died in 1920. He was married to Louisa Margart Cooper. They had five children. 6

-Rufus Clay was born about 1871. He married Martha McMillian, daughter of Henry McMillian and Maria Wilson, on March 11, 1893, in Raleigh County. They had eight children. -Mary Ann Clay was born in 1874 in Raleigh County. She married Elijah Stover, son of Lewis Rhoton Stover and Harriett Snodgrass, on April 12, 1882, in Raleigh County. They had nine children. -Nancy Jane Clay married Josephus Smith. They had four children. 4. Eliza Clay and William Patton Eliza Clay, daughter of Lucinda McMillian and Booker Clay, was born in 1868 in Raleigh County. She married William A. Patton, son of John Patton and Lucinda Clay, on December 28, 1886, in Raleigh County. William was born August 21, 1862, at Eccles, Raleigh County, and died March 6, 1943. Their children were Fred, Kenzie, Nettie Mae, Homer and Harriet. -Fred S. Patton married Naoma Plumley, and they had six children. -Homer F. Patton was born in 1902 and died in 1990. He married Retha Maddy, and they had two children. 4. Peter Clay and Harriett Williams Peter Clay, son of Lucinda McMillian and Booker Clay, was born April 17, 1868, and died April 9, 1948. He married Harriett Williams, daughter of Christopher Williams and Sina Arnold, on December 1, 1892, in Raleigh County. Harriett was born January 14, 1872, and died December 11, 1895, in Raleigh County. They had ten children. 4. Henry Harrison Clay and Ida Ann Hendricks Henry Harrison Clay, son of Lucinda McMillian and Booker Clay, was born April 21, 1879, and died June 11, 1955, in Raleigh County. He married Ida Ann Hendricks, daughter of William Robert Hendricks and Eliza Hutchinson, on August 9, 1899, in Raleigh County. Ida was born October 28, 1879, at Surveyor, Raleigh County and died July 11, 1950. Their children were Frank, Pierce, Nora, Herbert, Annie, Beecher, Austin, Wavie, and Laura. -Frank Clay was born May 30, 1900 and died October 12, 1954, at Surveyor. He married Ruby Nunn, and they had one child. -Pierce Clay was born in 1901 at Surveyor and died in 1990 in Fayette County. He was married to Elise Deck. 7

-Nora Clay was born March 3, 1903, at Surveyor and died April 23, 1965, in Raleigh County. She married Charles Lanier Addison on June 16, 1926, in Raleigh County. They had six children. -Beecher clay was born in 1911 at Surveyor and died September 6, 1972, in Raleigh County. He was married to Goldie Clay. -Wavie Clay was born about 1915 at Surveyor. She was married to John Richardson. -Laura Clay was born about 1920 at Surveyor and died in 1978. She was married to Sam Blaylock. 3. Aletha McMillian Aletha McMillian, daughter of Meredith, was born May 30, 1842, in Patrick County, Virginia and died September 22, 1926, in Raleigh County. Her first marriage was to Robert Daniel, son of William R. Daniel and Chloe Gwinn, on October 10, 1860, in Raleigh County. Robert was born about 1838 in Patrick County and died November 7, 1864, at Cedar Creek, Virginia. From the transcript of original records on file in the State Department of Archives and History, Charleston, West Virginia: "Robert Daniel enlisted at the age of 25 in Company "F" Thirteenth Regiment, West Virginia Volunteer Infantry, on October 9, 1862. He enrolled at Camp Platt, West Virginia, which was just above Charleston, and was mustered into the service at Point Pleasant, West Virginia. He died at Jarvis United States General Hospital, in Baltimore, Maryland, on November 7, 1864, of wounds received in action at Cedar Creek, Virginia, on October 19, 1864." He and Alethia had two children. Alethia's second marriage was to Jackson Clay, son of Meredith Clay and Nancy Bailey. Jackson was born April 10, 1847, in Fayette County and died October 22, 1896, in Raleigh County. Their children were Clestia Alice, Kanna, James Perry, Mary, Virginia, Sarah, Mandeville, and Roxie. -Clestia Alice Clay was born May 18, 1866 in Raleigh County and died August 23, 1884 in Raleigh County. Her one child, Martha J. Clay, died as an infant. -James Perry Clay was born about 1867. He served in Captain Turner's Regiment of the Union Army during the Civil War. She married Sylvestor Patton, son of John Patton and Lucinda Clay, on May 26, 1887, in Raleigh County. Sylvester was born July 2, 1860, at Eccles, Raleigh County and died February 26, 1934. 8

-Virginia Elizabeth clay was born August 3, 1871, in Raleigh County and died July 17, 1957, at Eccles. She married John Patton, Jr., son of John Patton and Lucinda Clay, on December 18, 1887, at Stevens Branch, Raleigh County. They had five children. -Sarah Ola Clay was born July 24, 1873, in Raleigh County and died February 23, 1899. She was married to Sylvester Patton, son of John Patton and Lucinda Clay. They had one child. -Roxie Bell Clay was born April 6, 1875, in Raleigh County and died August 4, 1896, in Raleigh County. She married Andrew Franklin Clay, son of Leftridge Clay, on November 22, 1893, in Raleigh County. Their children were Edgar and Clarence Clay. Alethia's third marrriage was to Andrew Francis Godbey, son of William Godbey and Rhoda Miller, on March 19, 1890, in Raleigh County. 3. William McMillian and Sarah Brown William Dudley McMillian, son of Meredith, was born August 17, 1858 in Raleigh County. He married Sarah Elizabeth Brown, daughter of Pleasant Brown and Clarinda Evans, on October 23, 1877, in Raleigh County. Their children were Clinton, Charles, Luvena, Kenna, James, William, Quincy, Allen, Mary, and George. -Clinton Dell McMillian was born March 14, 1895, at Mattsville, Raleigh County, and died March 11, 1956, in Cabell County, West Virginia. He was a retired carpenter, and a World War I veteran. He was married first to Mary Jane West, daughter of Alfred Hawthorne West and Jane Stover. His second marriage was to Bertie Williams, daughter of Andrew Williams and Frances West. -Kenna Thomas McMillian was born January 27, 1887. He married Pansy Lee Bolt, daughter of Jeff Bolt and Althea Clay, on June 7, 1917, in Raleigh County. -Quincy Oliver McMillian was born August 31, 1882, and died July 25, 1940, at Mabscott, Raleigh County. He married Callie Rose Hylton, daughter of Peter Hylton and Oceola Aliff, on November 3, 1906, in Raleigh County. They had three children. 3. Henry Fernandes McMillian Henry Fernandes McMillian, son of Meredith, was born November 3, 1848, in Fayette County, and died Febuary 16, 1882, in Raleigh County. His first marriage was to Charlotte Clay, daughter of Meredith Clay and Nancy Bailey, on September 27, 1867, in Raleigh County. His second marriage was to Maria L. Wilson, daughter of Aaron Wilson Jr. and Sarah Jane Gilley, on May 18, 1870, in Raleigh County. Their children were Mary, Isaac, Lewis, Lydia, Ezekiel, Sarah, and Martha. -Isaac R. McMillian was married to Mariah L. Wilson. 9

-Ezekiel McMillian was born April 30, 1871, and died June 21, 1949, in Raleigh County. He married Mary Frances Hendricks, daughter of William Robert Hendricks and Eliza Hutchinson, on October 27, 1898, in Raleigh County. Their children were Avery, Aletha, William, and Taft. -Martha L. McMillian was born about 1877. She married Rufus Clay, son of Booker Clay and Lucinda McMillian, on March 11, 1893, in Raleigh County. They had eight children. 10
