ACTIVITY 1 2 s/3 s only Instrument Discovery Show the children how to play different musical instruments. What You Need: Child-sized musical instruments like rhythm sticks, bongo drums, shakers, tambourines, and triangles. During the Activity: Hold up each instrument, name it for the children, and demonstrate how to play them. Pass the instruments around the circle and let the children take turns playing them. Make sure every child gets a chance to hold each instrument. Before the Activity: I have some musical instruments here that I want to show you. I ll name each one and show you how it s played. Then we ll pass the instruments so you can have a chance to play them. Are you ready? During the Activity: (Pause.) Okay, here s our first instrument! (Name each instrument and demonstrate how to play it.) After the Activity: You just made some beautiful music with our instruments. You really ROCKED it! All month long, we are going to see how kids ROCK. You re just a kid, but you can do so many cool things. In Large Group today, we heard about something else I KNOW you can do. Do you remember what it was? (Pause.) Yes! God made you to tell others about God too. That is something you can do that God wants you to do! Who can do what God wants you to do? (Pause) I can do it!
ACTIVITY 2 2 s/3 s only Into the Temple Children will collect and place Little People figures inside the temple (cardboard box). What You Need: Bucket Temple cardboard box, and Little People (Note: you will need a plastic figure for each child.) Before the Activity: Copy the Bucket Temple Activity Page onto the cardstock and cut along the dotted lines. Tape the Temple onto the side of the cardboard box. Place all of the plastic figures on the floor in the activity area. During the Activity: Explain to the children that the picture on the box is a Temple and a Temple is a church. Ask the children to go around the room, find all of the friends on the floor, and place them in the Temple. Repeat as desired. After the Activity: Review the Bible lesson. Before the Activity: Do you see this picture on the box? (Pause.) It is a picture of a Temple. A Temple is like a church. In our Bible lesson today, we learned that Jesus family traveled to the Temple for a special celebration to praise God. They had to travel a long way to get there. When the celebration was over, Joseph and Mary headed home. There were so many other people traveling that they thought Jesus was with them. But was Jesus with Mary and Joseph when they traveled home? (Pause for responses.) No! He wasn t with them. When they went back to find him, where was Jesus? (Pause for responses.) Yes! He was in the Temple. After the Activity: Jesus was in the Temple to tell others about God. He was there because that s what God wanted Him to do. And you know what else? You rock because God made you to tell others about God too. That is something you can do that God wants you to do! Who can do what God wants you to do? I can do it!

July Weeks 1 and 2 ACTIVITY 3 - All Rock Star Memory Verse Children will practice their memory verse while pretending to play various musical instruments. What You Need: No supplies needed. Teach the children this month s Memory Verse and motions. Each time you say the verse pretend to play a different musical instruments: play the guitar, play the drums, play the trumpet, play the flute, etc. Before the activity: We have a brand new Memory Verse this month and it is a good one! Today we are going to learn the words to our new memory verse! During the activity: God Made Us to do Good Works,. Can you say it with me? (Say memory verse together.) Let s say it again but this time let s pretend to play the guitar while we say it: God made us to do good works. (Pause.) This time let s pretend to play the drums while we say it: God made us to do good works. (Pause.) This time let s pretend to play the trumpet while we say it: God made us to do good works. (Pause.) (Repeat as many times as desired.) At the end of the activity: You all are AMAZING Rock Stars! Our memory verse tells us that God made us to do good works. A great thing we can do is to tell others all about Jesus! God wants us to tell everyone about Jesus! Who can do what God wants you to do? I can do it!

Children will have a dance party to show off their dance moves. What You Need: CD Player and fun music During the Activity: Gather the children in a circle in an open area of the room. Select a child to go to the middle of the circle to teach a dance move. Then have all the children do that move together. Repeat until every child has had a chance to teach a move. During the Activity: I know you kids rock and I would guess that you know some awesome dance moves. I want you to take turns teaching us a dance move. Who wants to go first? (If no child volunteers, be prepared to teach the moves yourself to get the dancing started! Also, some children may not want to teach a dance move, and that is okay too.) After the Activity: You did a GREAT job teaching us some cool dance moves. Seeing you teach a dance move reminded me of our lesson today when Jesus was teaching in the Temple. He was there because that s what God wanted Him to do. Who can do what God wants you to do? I can do it!
ACTIVITY 5 4 s/5 s only Building with Cups Children will build buildings with large plastic cups. What You Need: 40-50 large plastic cups in any color Before the Activity: Build a simple building with the cups. Place the extra cups in the activity area. During the activity: Ask the children to build their own building by following your example. After the Activity: Praise the children for working together as a team. Before the Activity: Let s work together and build something GREAT! I do not see any blocks, though. Hmmm. I know! Let s use these cups to build with! (Point to cups.) During the activity: Here are some more cups like I used. Can you build a building like mine? (Pause.) Great! Now let s tear them down and I want you to make a building however you want. (Pause.) Wow! These are great! What kind of building did you make? (Ask each of the children the types of building they made.) There are all types of buildings. There are really tall buildings, school buildings, houses, grocery stores, and churches are buildings, too. At the end of the activity: You were such great builders today! You made all sorts of buildings! We heard about a building called a temple today in our Bible lesson. A temple is another word for a church. We heard a great story today about Jesus in the temple. He was there because that s what God wanted Him to do. Who can do what God wants you to do? I can do it!
CRAFT WEEK 1 Memory Verse What You Need: Door Hanger (3 s, 4 s and 5 s) Picture Frame (2 s), stickers (3 s, 4 s and 5 s) or stampers (2 s), magnets (2 s) and memory verse. Have the children decorate the door hanger/picture frame with stickers or stampers. Before the activity: This week we started learning our new memory and WOW is it a Good one! Are you ready! Repeat after me! God made us to do good works, Ephesians 2:10. (Say a couple of words of the verse at a time, allowing the children to echo. Do this several times and then begin saying the verse different ways together.) During the activity: Today, we are going to make a door hanger/picture frame displaying our memory verse that you can take home to help you practice saying our memory verse throughout the month. After the Activity: Our memory verse tells us that God made us to do good works. A great thing we can do is to tell others all about Jesus! God wants us to tell everyone about Jesus! CRAFT WEEK 2 Jesus in the Temple What You Need: Temple and Boy Jesus Activity Pages, glue sticks, and markers or crayons Before the Activity: Each child will need one cutout and one Temple page. Place the glue sticks and markers/crayons in the center of the table. During the Activity: Hand out a Temple page to each child to color with the crayons/markers. Talk about today s Bible story as the children work. Instruct the children to glue the colored Jesus cutout onto the Temple page. During the Activity: In our Bible lesson today, we learned that Jesus family traveled to the Temple for a special celebration to praise God. They had to travel a long way to get there. SMALL GROUP Small Group Time What you Need: Parent Take Home Card, Playdoh, Heart Cookie Cutters, Rolling Pins, Sticker Roll and Young Jesus Activity Page SMALL GROUP LEADER (SGL): I need my small group to come sit with me. Where s my awesome small group? (Pause.) There you are! I m so happy to see all of your fabulous faces! Today we started learning about kids in the Bible who ROCK! Who remembers which kid we talked about today? (Hold up Jesus picture.) Yes! We talked about Jesus! Jesus rocked, because He did what God wanted Him to do. And you know what? You can do what God wants you to do too! Who can do what God wants you to do? I can do it! SGL: Again! Who can do what God wants you to do? CHILDREN and SGL: I can do it! SGL: And kids who do good things ROCK! Right? (Pause.) Right! Now it s time for our discussion question. One, two, three, eyes on me! (Point to picture of Jesus.) God wanted Jesus to tell people about Him. Jesus was still just a kid, but that didn t stop Him! Jesus did what God wanted Him to do and that rocks! God wants you to tell people about Him too. Let s make a list of people you can tell about God. When we pray we can use our list to ask God to help us tell them. When I say your name, tell me one person. Ok, it s time to review our lesson. I am going to ask you some questions and you will get a sticker for answering them. I have some really cool stickers today. Are you ready? (Pause.) Great! (Ask the children the questions from the Parent Take Home Cards. You can also make up additional questions from our video lesson. Don t forget to ask them to say their memory verse for another sticker. You can repeat the same questions over and over as repetition is good for preschoolers.) You are such great listeners!
