Saint of the Week Saint Aloysius Gonzaga On June 21 st, the Church celebrates the feast of St. Aloysius Gonzaga. St. Aloysius was born the son of Spanish nobility on March 9 th, 1568. At the age of 18, to the chagrin of his father, he renounced his inheritance and chose a life of poverty by entering the Jesuits. There he became known for his great purity and the depth of his interior life under the spiritual guidance of St. Robert Bellarmine. When the plague broke out in Milan, St. Aloysius (not yet ordained a priest) boldly devoted himself to the care of its victims. Never once thinking of himself, he eventually caught the plague and died on June 21 st, 1591 at the young age of 23. His great sanctity was confirmed when shortly thereafter St. Mary Magdalene de Pazzi saw St. Aloysius in a vision. Rapt in ecstasy, she could be heard to exclaim, How great is the glory of Aloysius, the son of St. Ignatius! Prayer of the Week Corpus Christ Prayer Lord Jesus Christ, you gave us the Eucharist as the memorial of your suffering and death. May our worship of this sacrament of your body and blood help us to experience the salvation you won for us and the peace of the kingdom where you live with the Father and the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. Amen. Stewardship of Treasure Offertory for June 11 - $14,874.40 Average offertory to date - $15,789.34 The budget is based on a weekly average offertory of $15,942.00 per week. There will be a 2nd collection this weekend for the Catholic Communications Campaign Thank you for your continued support of our parish. Liturgical Bits & Bytes The Most Holy Body and Blood of Christ (Corpus Christi) Corpus Christi is Latin for Body of Christ. It is the name given to the Feast of Body and Blood of Jesus which is given to us in the Most Holy Sacrament of the Eucharist. On this day, through our readings at Mass, the homily, and our participation in Holy Mass, we are reminded that Jesus Christ gives Himself to us, Body, Blood, Soul and Divinity. We are also reminded of our missionary call to give Him to others. There is an ancient and beautiful custom in the Latin Rite of the Catholic Church, the Corpus Christi procession. The consecrated Host, the Body of the Lord, is reposed in what is called a monstrance. The term is derived from a Latin phrase meaning to show or reveal. The faithful process the Body of the Lord through the streets surrounding their church buildings. This Eucharistic procession can be a powerful witness to an age which has lost its sense of the sacred. We proclaim by our action that the Lord is truly present, giving Himself to all who call upon him. Sunday Readings & Reflections Readings for Sunday, June 18, 2017 Bread for Others Reading I Deuteronomy 8:2-3, 14-16 (God s care) Reading II 1 Corinthians 10:16-17 (the Eucharist vs. pagan sacrifices) Gospel John 36:51-58 (the living bread) Key Passage: I am the living bread that came down from heaven. Whoever eats of this bread will live forever; and the bread that I will give for the life of the world is my flesh. (John 6:51) Adult: What does it mean for you right now to be bread for others as Jesus was? Youth: In what ways can Jesus presence in the Eucharist help you do good things for others? Stewardship of Time & Talent WITH SINCERE APPRECIATION Thank you to the local business that hosted the Youth Ministry Pizza and Wings chat session. Your generosity in supporting the young people and our parish is greatly appreciated. ST.
