Dear Brothers and Sisters, We are about to enter into the most solemn time of the liturgical year Holy Week. I would like to invite all of you to actively participate in our Holy Week liturgies, especially the Easter Vigil, which I consider to be the most beautiful of them all. Let us share in the joy of welcoming our brothers and sisters who have been preparing themselves for Baptism or to be received into full communion with the Catholic Church. They have worked hard to learn more about our faith and to walk along the difficult path of conversion. It would be a great inspiration for them to see the church packed with their brothers and sisters, praying for them and eager to receive them as the newest members of the Church. It is my hope that we thoroughly immerse ourselves in the mystery of Holy Week. For the more we share in our Lord s trials and sufferings, the more we share in the glory of His resurrection. Blessings, Fr. Chris TODAY S READINGS Gospel at the Procession with Palms -- Jesus' entry into Jerusalem (Mark 11:1-10 or John 12:12-16). MAKING A DIFFERENCE AS A PARISH COMMUNITY During five of the Fridays of Lent we had an opportunity to share meals together and learn about organizations that are making a difference locally and through the CRS Rice Bowl program. We learned about the extent of human trafficking in San Diego, local organizations addressing issues of children and homeless, taking care of our earth with environmental stewardship and building homes in Mexico. We thank those who generously contributed. We also thank Casanova Fish Tacos for the very delicious fish taco dinners and the youth group for assisting. Suggestions regarding the evenings, Speakers, ministries, presentations, etc. are most welcome. Please contact Flora Funk at swtpea713@hotmail.com. Page 5
THE PASSION The contrast between the processional reading in today's liturgy and the proclamation of the Passion is striking. We are given a glimpse of how profoundly the word of God is fulfilled in Jesus. First he must be hailed as the Messiah, the One who is to come. He must be acknowledged by all, though they do not know what they are saying. They think he is the promised king, a worldly king of the Jews who will free them from the Roman occupation. They do not yet understand, even the disciples, exactly where this triumphal procession is leading. In our lives, we too do not know where we are going. It is in faith that we can follow Christ wherever he may lead us, trusting that death is not the end, nor evil the victor. Copyright (c) J. S. Paluch Co., Inc. CAMP ST. MARTIN!
