Pastor Paul s Post Thoughts from the Heart By Pastor Thank God for the summertime! Katie I loved Hopper the song I sang when I was younger that started out: Love Him in the morning when you see the sun a-rising. Love Him in the evening 'cause He took you through the day. And in the in-between-time when you feel the pressure coming. Remember that He loves you and He promises to stay. I googled this from memory and found the lyrics and information on this song. It is from 1973, is written by John Fischer and it is called the All Day Song. I probably haven t thought of this song in many years, even longer for when I actually sang it. I m struck by how it just, came to mind, when I thought of summer and how I am thankful for this upcoming season and for this church. It might be the hand motions that got combined with singing this song that helped put it in my brain in the first place. It s a soft, slow sort of song, that I fondly remember singing with the church group where I grew up. It does make me think of the opportunities we have to experience moments with God that stay with us for the rest of our lives. We may not think of them all of the time, or much at all, like this one I ve had. There may be a lot of activity this summer with family and friends or not much at all, but there is still plenty of time for those quiet moments to reflect and to just be. It is always good to be reminded that we are accompanied by the Holy Spirit, who promises to stay. It is good to give God our time. The rest of the song goes: When you think you've got to worry, 'Cause it seems the thing to do. Remember He ain't in a hurry. He's always got time for you. FPC holds all those affected by the disastrous earthquake in Nepal in prayer. We fervently hope that in the middle of absolute desolation that the light of hope may endure for the people and country of Nepal. We pray that in the midst of this darkness, that the people of Nepal may be strengthened by the love and help of their brothers and sisters around the world. The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness did not overcome it. John 1:5
The Mission Report The Mission Committee discussed an interesting phrase from the May 14th entry in the 2015 Presbyterian Mission Yearbook. In the 1990's the Pittsburgh Presbytery had prayed for a "pioneering partnership." The answer was an invitation from World Mission for the presbytery to consider a partnership with a Presbyterian Evangelical Church in South Sudan. You can read more about this partnership in the yearbook. Although we might not be able to have partnerships on a large scale much of what we do for missions really are pioneering partnerships in some way. It's a exciting concept. Please keep the youth mission group in your prayers as they prepare for a mission trip to Chicago on July 19-22. Also continue to keep Paul and Amelia Adams in your prayers as they prepare for their trip to Africa with Marion Medical Mission in the fall. If you are not in church on May 31st when the second offering is collected for their trip please consider donating at another time throughout the summer.
